Chapter 25: Lauryn
Not wanting to go to work, I have to force myself to get in the car and drive. Feeling depressed, I watch as a woman pulls up next to me at the light. She has really pretty long black hair in a braid and she is wearing matching black designer glasses. The kind you see actresses wear all the time.
The reason why I'm late for work is I'm not looking forward to seeing Darren. Last night was so hot, that when I did fall asleep eventually, I dreamt about it. When the doctor put Fluffy to sleep, I was so heart broken that I sat on my couch for hours with Chris holding me. He really is the best.
However, seeing Darren mad like that made me want to run the other way. I don't want him to take it out on me at work and affect my chances of succeeding there, because I am already becoming partial to it and the people I work with. If I had to leave now, I would be deeply hurt.

The last thing I would tell Lauryn is that Jake wants to talk to me about Jenna, so I lie. After all, what she doesn't know won't hurt her and I didn't know I would ever see her again, let alone work here under me. I pace around Jake's office and listen to him lecture me. I can't believe Mr. Denver jumped me like that. Just when I was about to leave with Janet for dinner, he comes in and tells me he needs to talk to me. Staring at the ceiling, I toss and turn eventually getting out of bed. I look at the alarm and it reads 7 a.m. Not wanting to wake Lauryn on a Saturday, I do my gym time and afterwards jump in the shower. The cascading water feels wonderful on my tired muscles. I have one of those deluxe showers that have several spouts, one on each wall. Usually putting the shower to the first setting, I stand in the middle as they pulse powerfully and assault my body from all sides. The heat beats on me while I run my hands down over my body. When we go inside, Darren's mom gives me a hug and whispers in my ear, "He loves you, don't hurt him dear." Letting me go, she gives me a warning look and then smiles at Darren lovingly. After telling Lauryn that I love her, she acts shocked. How could she be? I know she feels the same way, because I can sense it. When we touch, it's like our souls intertwine. Grabbing an overnight bag, I almost forget to call Samantha. She wanted me to call her after I got home with the details. I hope she is prepared for what I have to tell her though.
