I was about to say a few prayers because it could be the last time I ever opened my eyes, when I felt how calm the car had suddenly become.
On instinct, I opened one of my eyes to observe my environment. The first thing that caught my attention was how close we were to the tree but still didn't collide with it.
Gradually inhaling and exhaling, I tried to control my breath. I turned slowly to face Helena whose head was resting on the wheel with one of her hands above her head on the wheel.
"Helena, I whispered, she turned her face to look at me, and gave me a sad smile before sitting up in her seat and resting her back on it.
The wheel was wet and I immediately looked at her face to see that tears were streaming down freely from her eyes.
