I stared at the bright moon hiding behind the curtains of cloud at night, illuminating every cloud around it and giving it a distinct shape.
With a smile forming on my lips, I tried to connect the outline of clouds with my finger resembling a rabbit. I never felt alone surrounded by nature.
I was too engrossed in my own world that the shuffling of leaves brought me back into the real world.
Thinking it was only in my head after what happened in school earlier I ignored the sound.
Not even a minute later there was another sound but it sounded like heavy footsteps.
Carefully I stood up and tried to get a better look without getting any closer. If it was an animal I did not want to become its dinner.
A gasp left my mouth as my eyes made contact with the shining blue eyes staring directly at me through the distance. There was something about those eyes that was making me want to stay. A low rumbling sound followed soon, it was so loud that I was sure there was more than one of them, and those were enough signs of danger.
Maintaining eye contact I started taking the step backward towards my front door. When I was close enough I ran inside and shut the door loudly in a hurry.
"Why are you making so much noise at this time? Your father is working on something important."
I turned to face my mother standing with hands on her waist waiting for an answer.
"Animal...in the garden," I managed to speak while breathing heavily.
Mom walked towards the window quickly and peeked through the curtain, "There is nothing outside."
"No, mom it was there and it was huge," I stood next to her and looked at the corner where I last saw it, but she was right there was nothing there, only the darkness.
"What animal was it?" she questioned closing the curtains neatly, making sure every pattern was right and none were overlapping.
"I don't know."
"Then how do you know it was huge?"
I pressed my lips together at her question. How was I supposed to explain it had blue eyes which were shining in the darkness and it was almost as tall as me. I could tell about the height because of its eyes but I knew she would not believe it, why would anyone believe those words?
"Go back to your room, Eleanor. If you have so much free time to waste utilize it on your studies. Faith used to stay up all night to study when she was your age."
Mom gave one last look to the window and turned to leave without hearing any response.
I silently walked to my room thinking about what was happening in our town? Missing people, possible murder, and now huge wild animals.
With a groan, I put my face on the pillow.
A notification on my phone made me frown as I looked at it. It was 11 pm and no one would text me at that time. Not that I had many friends.
It was Adam, sending me a meme.
Shaking my head, I chuckled softly and started texting him.
I did not know what was going through my head but I told him everything I saw earlier.
Three minutes passed and there was no response from his side.
My stomach dropped slightly thinking I lost the only friend I made after so many years when he called me.
"Hey, El. Sorry for calling you like this, I should have asked you first but after you told me what happened I started searching for the animal attacks in our town."
"Hello to you too," I laughed, "and it is completely fine."
"Are you sure?" came his doubtful sweet voice.
"Yes," I cleared my throat slightly, "so, what did you find?"
"There are no reports of animal attacks in our town in the last ten years. What animal was it? Do you have any idea?"
"Not really, it was too dark to see anything clearly."
"Try not to go outside until we figure out what animal it was and if you see it again, try to take a picture," he said softly.
"Okay," I smiled, even though I knew he could not see it, "thank you, Adam, it was nice to talk to someone about it and I honestly thought you would not believe me."
"I believe you, El, and we are friends now so you don't have to say thank you to me. Besides, why would you lie about it anyway? You saw something and if you were not sure about it you would not have told me," every word sounded genuine from his end.
It felt good to talk to someone who believed in you and who wanted to be your friend without wanting anything in return.
"I will talk to you tomorrow, Good night El," he yawned as he said the last words.
"Good night, sleepyhead," I laughed.
Throwing my phone on the other side of the bed, I closed my eyes with no heavy feeling in my heart.

"Why are you looking outside again and again?" whispered my lab partner, Anna trying to take a look outside but failed as I blocked her view.
"Nothing," I answered in a whisper as I watched her add a chemical from one test tube to another from the corner slowly.
She put the second test tube in the test tube stand and gave me a blank look which I ignored.
A small part of me was thinking constantly that some animal was outside and could attack someone.
But no matter how much I was thinking about other things there was a part of my brain that could not stop wondering about Damien.
"Did you hear some people went missing?" I asked Anna after getting annoyed by the silence.
"Everyone knows about it."
"Really? I thought it was supposed to be a secret or something?"
She stopped mixing the contents in the beaker and looked at me for a brief moment with her sharp green eyes, "Well I guess not everyone knows about it."
I raised my eyebrow at her remark but she went back to mixing chemicals.
"About three people have gone missing yet, two of them were from the same family."
I did not bother asking how she knew all of it because I already knew the answer.....her father.
"How did you hear about it, I am sure your parents won't tell this bad news to their princess?" she asked in a mocking voice.
I took the beaker from her hand and put it near the empty test tubes then turned to look at her face with a serious expression on mine, "Get over yourself, Anna. If I am not saying anything it does not mean I can't, so stop testing my patience."
She nodded quickly while blinking a few times repeatedly.
"And to answer your question, a friend told me during the dinner we were having with Damien," I mentioned his name with a smile to show her our family had no grudge against him.
She stood there quietly as I picked up the beaker and put it in her hand again.
I started taking notes of the observations without saying anything to her but I could feel her eyes on me once in a while.
The bell indicated our last class was over and I started gathering my stuff when Anna called my name.
I waited for her to say something in confusion.
"I know I might sound like a bitch sometimes but I am saying this with no bad feelings for you. You should stay away from Damien, he is bad news."
"Who told you that?" I put the mug of steaming hot chocolate back on the table, ready to answer Adam's question, "Anna, we are in the same class." "There are four people actually and it is no longer a secret. People know about it." The soft sound of the raindrops falling on the ground echoed in the cafe. There weren't many people there and it was good for us, considering almost everyone knew each other in the town. "Who is the fourth person?" I asked curiously, it was not every day people went missing in our town. "A woman in her late thirties." Adam's eyes were glued to the screen of his phone probably waiting for any other update about the situation. While my brain was showing me the memory of those two men talking to each other in Damien's house. What if they were talking about one of the missing people? We sat in comfortable silence. Taking a small bite from the slice of chocolate cake I debated intern
My brain stopped functioning completely as the man said those words. I stood on my spot like a statue in the middle of taking a step forward. If that man caught us not only Damien would know everything but my parents would as well. Mom might ground me for the rest of my life. But if I ran the chances of outrunning the man were slim. I knew Adam was facing a similar dilemma as well. "Now, I want you both to turn around slowly and do not try to be smart with me," said the man. From his voice, I knew he was about ten steps away from us. "El," whispered Adam from my right side. I hummed to indicate I was listening. "Run!!" he yelled loudly. It was all I needed for the motivation and I ran. I ran as fast as I could without checking if the man was following me or not. The cold wind was slapping on my face but I moved my feet carefully so that I avoided the trees and everything on my way as best as I could.
The crescent moon shined alone in the lonely dark sky. Stars were hiding behind the clouds floating in the cool night.I was scared not because of what happened but because of what might happen after I reach home. The black screen of my dead phone stared at me as I tried to think about what I would say to my parents. It was late and no matter how much I tried to ask Damien to take me home it was useless. That's how I ended up sitting alone in the empty room that was next to the room in which I went the last time I was here.I was angry at Adam for getting me into this mess, I regretted the moment in which I told him about Damien but more than that I was thinking about Damien.I could see my future plans drifting away slowly just like the clouds in the sky.Blowing the air out of my mouth I stood up from the chair to get some water.I closed the bedroom room quietly and started walking down the stairs carefully. The dim lighting of the
The constant buzzing of the phone in my pocket was driving me insane. I was thankful for what Adam did yesterday but it did not mean I would forgive him for leaving me alone in the forest. The forest.... every time I closed my eyes the image of Damien's eyes was in front of me. I knew what I saw was real, just like that freakishly huge animal.Rubbing my head slightly, I looked at the time 30 minutes before I could leave. Not really paying any attention to the teacher I continued making shapes on my notebook earning some looks from Anna."Are you okay?"With a frown, I stared at Anna in confusion. She was not the one to care for anyone, well no one at the school at least."Yeah," I whispered back with a shrug, "why?"She glanced at the teacher quickly who was doing his work and we were supposed to read quietly."Your face looks dull and you are not paying any attention to the class.""No one is paying attentio
Ever since Faith and I used to play outside as kids I could always feel whenever someone was watching me.With time nothing changed, the small tingling feeling became more prominent whenever I felt someone's eyes on me.Faith always dismissed the feeling by calling me paranoid and I learned to ignore it as well. But at the moment I knew it was not paranoia, someone was watching me.The small distance from school to home became scary for me, it was like taking a walk in an alley from where anything could pop out anytime. The footsteps behind me became distant as I increased my speed clutching the pepper spray tightly inside the bag.I slowed my speed when I noticed a strange man dressed in an olive green jacket with a beanie over his head was standing on my way just a few steps away with his head tilted down.A knot formed in my stomach when I tried to pick if I should continue walking or go back.I ana
"Hey baby sis," came a sweet voice similar to my mom but more energetic from the other end. "Faith? Why are you calling me," I checked the time, "at 10 pm." Faith never called me at night, it was an unspoken rule made by her and mom. Utilize the silence that comes with the night. "I just wanted to check up on you." I did not understand the meaning behind her words. "I know mom and dad are not at home and with everything happening in town I thought I should talk to you." A frown made its way on my face, "Do you know where are mom and dad?" There was a momentary pause from her side, "They went for an important meeting." I closed the book in front of me and placed it neatly with the other books, "Why would they go to the same meeting?" I took a seat on the bed while waiting for her reply. "It is regarding everything happening in the town, El." A slight sadness passed thinking how I did n
"I thought out of all the people you would trust me," I crossed my arms over my chest and started looking outside through the glass window to avoid Adam."El, I am just stating the truth. There was not enough light and after what happened in the forest you might have just imagined it," he said the last words slowly.I stared at him with a disapproving look.I started looking around to avoid him once again. We were sitting at the end of a cafe. Every corner seemed completely different. A plain center and artsy designs on either side of two walls was the first thing to catch the attention of a visitor. While the third wall had glass windows all over it.The last corner had plants and a small bookshelf, the tables had a wooden wall separating them."El, not looking at me won't make me disappear.""No, but apparently I have a great imagination so I am just imagining you are not here," I smiled at him. After what I witnessed last night I n
I knew so much but I had no evidence to prove my words. What could be worse than that? I kicked the pebble on the road thinking about my current situation and what I could do to change it. I gave a smile to a woman on my way who returned it with a small smile of her own that failed to reach her eyes. It was not only her, everyone was scared. The playground was not filled with the laughter of kids, the roads were empty, the cafes and restaurants were closed before darkness could take over the blue sky. "Ma'am, could you tell me this location?" a coarse voice asked me from behind. Thinking it might be someone who lost his way, "Sure," I answered before looking at him. I froze looking at the lean man wearing a thick brown jacket, baggy pants, and a beanie over his head. He had an uneven smile on his face that was covered in the beard. I put on a fake smile as well hiding my fear while clutching the keychain with a small knife in m
