Nyvrass II, Nyvrass System, Imperial Domain of the Boundless Drogar
The space above Nyvrass II was in absolute chaos. The burning wreckages of half-destroyed Imperial ships rained down onto the vast city-scape of the industrial planet. They came tumbling down from lower orbit, and crashed into the massive industrial complexes below.
The entirety of the planet’s surface had been completely converted into a single industrial city, and was jam-packed with manufactories, fabrication bays, material depots, munitions storage, recycling plants, and so on.
Absolutely everything needed to create weapons of war was built on the planet itself. The planet was home to an entire wartime production chain, starting with containers filled with raw materials to crates filled with fully-furnished naval guns.
By this time, entire swaths of the city beneath were ablaze and had been reduced to little more than piles of colorful rubble. But none of that stopped the vast tornado of destruction.Amidst all of the combat within the swirling storm of metal, the two devastators faced off with vicious determination. And since they were both Imperial ships, their weapons were moderately effective against each others’ armor.Dark orange disintegration beams crossed between them and struck each others’ thick chitin. Both of them tore each others’ armor apart with equal amounts of fury and power. They etched deep scars into the chitin and carved off huge chunks. Most of which fell down the city below, which demolished anything still left standing and added to the g
Taloren Prime, Throne System, Imperial Domain of the Boundless DrogarThe skies above Lacroseth City were beautiful and clear, while the streets far, far below were abuzz with activity. There were throngs of drogar going about, busy as bees and living their lives. Some of the streets were rife with political chatter and discussion, as was the norm around the towers. After all, it was the center of Imperial power and so all manner of political discussions and arguments filled the air.But normal citizens and political pundits were far from the only people all around the towers.A good portion of the streets surrounding the towers were taken up by thousands of Sanguine Fundamentalists, all of them protesting angrily against the powers-that-be.
As Retholis and Orsethii argued far above, the crowds grew wilder down below. To the alarm of the numerous security forces posted up around the towers, the protest groups grew larger and larger in size. More and more Sanguine Fundamentalists poured into the lines and packed the streets.More signs, more shouting, more guns. But what was worse than the increased numbers was that those who joined all wore heavy dark red armor. Not only that, but the security forces’ sensors detected more and more military-grade weaponry, from charged slug repeaters to electrostatic throwers to shoulder-mounted launchers.Tension filled each of the security force commanders as they watched the Fundamentalists’ numbers rise. Their nerves blew apart the moment the fundamentalists started shooting.
The Gold Justicar swallowed back any fears she had and advanced towards Orsethii. Although she had extreme reservations towards facing off against a Reborn, her duty overrode everything else. Decades of conflict had honed her into a deadly and powerful combatant that few could rival.Of course, her power armor helped close any gaps between them as well.“By the code of the Justicars,” she told Orsethii, “I command you to stand down. Any assault made against the Emperor is immediately punishable by death.”“Ah, yes, another fine tradition,” Orsethii retorted. “It’s a bit interesting to me that my traditions aren’t worth anything, while yours are worth everything.”“Warring needlessly and upholding law are t
The fighting down below was still incredibly fierce. The Sanguine Fundamentalists had concentrated on sections of a few walls and literally blasted short tunnels through them. Many had even begun to charge through the breaches, but typically met concentrated defensive fire from all of the security forces behind the walls.Despite the fissures, the majority of the fighting still occurred just outside the high walls. Out there, the streets had been filled with tens of thousands of armed and armored Sanguine Fundamentalists, all of whom screamed bloody murder. It was all so chaotic and messy and completely out of their capacity to deal with that almost no-one even noticed the explosions far above their heads.Hell, it was so far away that they couldn’t even detect them - they had their own explosions and gu
Later that cycle, the screens of every citizen in the Imperium was filled with the reports from the deadly attack. In fact, every omnicast covered the events of the attack as best they could. Some did so in great detail, others only with mere mentions.Regardless, no matter who it was, they talked about the attack. The vast majority of citizens tuned in to ‘State of the Empire’, a nonstop omnicast that focused solely on critical Imperial affairs. Its host wore a bewildered, yet angry look on his face while the massive display screen behind him showed live footage of the aftermath of the attack itself.“Tens of thousands were killed earlier this cycle when a violent offshoot of the Sanguine Fundamentalists attacked the Imperial center of power on T
Five Years LaterTowering flames engulfed nearly a quarter of the city. Its once-beautiful skyline had become jagged and uneven and blackened with soot. Many of its tallest buildings had been turned into its largest piles of rubble instead.More critically, many of the city’s blocks had been utterly flattened by crashed warships. There was a cruiser, a handful of destroyers, and a dozen frigates all scattered everywhere. Each of them tore up massive swaths of the city and left huge craters and trenches wherever they fell.Their hulls were split open and exposed, which revealed the shattered and mangled interiors. It didn’t matter if the ship was from the Hegemony or the Empire, the result was the same. Also scattered throughout the city were the wrecks of hundreds of fighters and
Gaea, Sol System, Core Sector, Sol FederationIt was the same in almost every city across Gaea, whether it was Tokyo or Shanghai or Istanbul or Paris or New York. Billions of people all over the planet took to the streets and skyways of their home cities, and angrily protested at the galaxy at large. In London, the people had packed the streets down below with so many bodies that all foot traffic was all but halted.Up above them, fleets of hoppers did the same for the skyways above. They too clogged their pathways between buildings and all but ensured that the city’s economy ground to an absolute halt. Not a single commercial or industrial or otherwise “productive” vehicle could get through. The swarm of civilian hoppers literally crowded around commercial vehicles an
