Interlude

I could not believe this.

Both my hands were on my hips as I curiously looked at him. The apple really does not fall far from the tree. It's just that in this case I'm sure that it was two apple trees that bare this one apple. I'm so sure mom was in on this too. I don't even know whether to applaud them or to hail curses at them for making me worry like this.

Dad sat on the hospital bed with his face visibly ashen with shock. And the doctor, I don't even know if he is a real one.

"Br..." He wants to speak now? I didn't let him finish before I spoke. I turned to the doctor.

"Out! Before I sue both you and your hospital." He threw a furtive glance at dad who gave him a brief but weak nod. He should be scared. As soon as the doctor left, the partner in crime arrived.

"Honey, where is Brie?" She had already spoken out the question before she realized I was in the room with dad perfectly well. When she saw us she immediately backtracked.

"Oh honey! You're awake?" I promise if I didn't know the story, I would have believed her act. Mothers are just a whole different level of manipulation. There were even tears in her eyes. I looked behind her and saw Dylan. I just walked to him and gave him a hug. It's been so long since I had seen my brother. I missed him so bad because he was one of the rocks I had when I was growing up.
