Chapter Twenty Two

Laurie is quick to notice Kate's reaction and promptly grabs her face in her hands, forcing Kate to look at her and not the dresser on the other side of the room. Even as she does, the brunette's gaze is fixed on the spot just to the left of Laurie's face.

"Kate, I need you to look at me." Laurie urges.

Kate was trying her best to take deep calming breaths but because Laurie was so close, she was all Kate could hone in on. It was the same intoxicating scent of vanilla, and what she had come to know as lavender, that she associated with her mate. But it was mixed with a sort of citrus and pine smell that Kate knew was from Laurie's friends.

Of course, in her admittedly irrational state, that only served to unsettle her more.

Kate complies with the request though, jaw clenching and teeth grinding as she struggles to keep her cool. She could never deny Laurie of anything but was painfully aware of her mate comfortably perched on her lap as if she h
