Chapter 28

Alessio:

The alarm’s ringing woke me up. Knowing that last night was a long one, I had to resolve to putting an alarm as not to wake up at noon.

I extended my arm to turn it off only to smile at the sleeping woman who was laying her head on my chest, just over my beating heart.

I ran my fingers through her messed up curls, twirling my finger in a strand, and softly untangling her hair as I went on. She didn’t stir for a second, and I knew that it wasn’t just the alcohol’s effect.

She felt safe, she knew that I wouldn’t harm her, she trusted me, and that was something that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Never in my life did I think that a woman trusting me was going to bring me such comfort, just remembering how she had trusted me with opening up to me, knowing that I could easily crush her but trusting that I wouldn’t hurt a hair on her if I could prevent it; it was something that brought me contentment.
