005 After You

Karen

We stood in the woods for a couple of minutes. I saw that Oscar was on edge, but I was the one that was most afraid.

I had never seen werewolves in my life, I had never jumped down from such a height before. I had experienced a first of a lot of things, and I had experienced pleasure and fear simultaneously.

I was yet to come down from the highs of the pleasure Oscar was trying to introduce me to when those things attacked us. I wondered the state the apartment was in.

If I had known what I was getting myself mixed up with, I wouldn't have taken the job in the first place. Sleeping on the streets was better than being hunted by werewolves.

I couldn't believe the size of those things. The fact that Oscar was one of them was scary. I began to wonder if everyone at Wilde Corp was a werewolf. I wondered if everyone in town was a werewolf.

Now, here we were in the woods. I had nothing to use to defend myself. What if they all turned on me? All I had to depend on was Oscar, and he was like them. Most significantly, I didn't know him that much. I was truly fucked.

"What do you mean they are after me?" I asked him, completely forgetting that he was my boss. I didn't care. I intended to quit if I survived this.

"I didn't even know that werewolves existed until now. They must have followed you to the apartment." I pointed out, but he remained silent. He seemed to be paying attention to something other than me.

"Mr Wilde, this wasn't part of my contract," I said in a matter of fact tone. I noticed he wasn't even listening. He was sniffing the air and looking left and right.

Before I could ask him what the matter was, he lifted me again and started running through the woods.

"Where are we going?" I asked, but I didn't need to wonder about why we were running anymore when I heard them coming.

We got to a clearing in the woods that had a tiny cave. Oscar placed me in it and shifted back to his werewolf form.

In less than two minutes, the other wolves had arrived.

"Hand that girl over, Alpha Wilde." I heard one of them say. I knew now that the blonde knew him well because she called him Alpha too. His full name must have been Mr Alpha Oscar Wilde. I wondered why he hid the Alpha part.

"What do you want with her?" I heard him say in an angry tone.

"It is no business of yours. This is personal business," another werewolf said. Their voices were like something from a horror movie. I began to pray for my life. I hoped that I would live to see the next day.

"It is my business since she is my woman," I heard Oscar say, and I had the urge to come out and say that he was lying, that I was only his employee, and we were not dating. But I figured that whatever he was saying was in my best interest.

Sleeping with him was just part of the terms of employment, and after knowing what I now knew, I intended to rethink it. Won't sleeping with Oscar mean I was engaging in some form of bestiality? I didn't have a fetish for that.

"She does not smell of you Alpha, please hand her over. We have no qualms with your pack." Another wolf said, saying the word his uncle had used.

"If you hadn't interrupted us, she would have smelled of me. Now answer my question, what do you want with my woman?" Oscar asked.

"She is Giles Hunter's granddaughter. Our Alpha has scores to settle with her family for killing his mate. You know she is a threat to our kind," someone said, and I began to wonder how delusional they were. They were either smoking something or misinformed because I had no family.

"You have been misinformed. She is not a family member of Giles Hunter. Karen is an orphan," Oscar explained, a bit relaxed.

"Your desire for her has dulled your senses. Can't you smell her Hunter's blood?" I heard someone say.

"I repeat myself, Karen is not a Hunter." Oscar barked at them.

"She is the legitimate daughter of Giles' only son, John Hunter," someone explained.

"Then she is of no use to you. A child that was dumped and forgotten does not count." Oscar said with confidence.

"Not when she is the last descendant. If we kill her, we will succeed at eradicating Hunter's bloodline," he said, trying to convince Oscar to hand me over.

"And John Hunter?" Oscar asked.

"He is a vampire now. He doesn't count," they responded.

"Karen may be from Hunter's bloodline, but she is not a hunter. Her grandfather does not know her, neither does she know him. She is of no danger to us," Oscar explained.

"I am afraid our Alpha is not on the same page with you on that. Whether you are responsible for her or not, we will still get her," they promised.

"If a hair on her head is harmed, your Alpha will have me to contend with," Oscar threatened. Hearing him speak made me realise Alpha was a title and not his name. So he was Alpha Oscar Wilde.

"How did you find her?" Oscar asked them.

"We have people in the Wilde Corp, " someone replied. "We will deliver your message to our Alpha." They said and began to leave.

Oscar picked me up and ran with me till we got to a big house in the woods.

"Welcome, Alpha," I heard the people stationed at the gate greet him, and I figured they were all werewolves.

The moment we entered, Oscar carried me upstairs. We entered a room, and he took me straight to the shower.

I wanted to ask him what he was doing when he put on the shower and began to take off my clothes, but I kept quiet because I knew that whatever he was doing, I was sure that he wasn't trying to hurt me. He wasn't lying when he said those werewolves were after me. I had heard a lot from those werewolves than I knew about myself.

Who was Giles Hunter, and what had he done to make the werewolves hate him so much? John Hunter was my supposed father, and he was a vampire. Did he kill my mother? Was that why I was dumped at the orphanage? Who was my mother? Was she alive? Had she been turned into a vampire too?

I found out that Werewolves and vampires existed in one night. If truly the people those werewolves mentioned were my relatives, then I better hang around Oscar for safety, but for how long will he protect me from his kind?

"Karen, Karen, Karen," I heard Oscar's voice. I was deep in thoughts, and his voice had snapped me out of it. When he saw he had my attention, he decides to speak.

"Karen, be honest with me and tell me about yourself." He asked.

I was still shaken by the incident. He washed my body with soap and water and carried me to his bed.

He gave me one of his T-shirts to wear, and I wore it. I folded my legs on the bed and hugged myself. What if Oscar wasn't at the apartment? I would have been killed. Those things meant business. They were out for my blood because I was related to someone I didn't know.

"Karen, tell me all you know about yourself," Oscar asked me in a calm voice.

"I was dumped at Lakes bridge orphanage with nothing but my name. I have no family, and I don't know anyone apart from the people at Jenny's cafe. Why will they want to kill me?"

"I don't know, Karen, but you will have to live here for now." He said to me, and I looked at him confused.

"I can't stay here all by myself surrounded by werewolves," I complained.

"Would you rather be out there where werewolves are after you?" He asked me, and I was silent. He had a valid point, so I kept quiet.

Oscar sat next to me and held me to comfort me. I didn't know that I was crying.

"You need to calm down, Karen. You are safe here with me. I promise to get to the bottom of this," he said, and I relaxed into his arms and continued to cry.

The truth was all he needed to do was hand me over, and he wouldn't have any issues with his fellow werewolves, but he had stuck his neck out for me, a stranger. Something made me realise he wasn't an asshole as I had thought. I clung to him tightly and wept till I fell asleep.
