With one hand in his pocket, he stood in front of the glass wall in his office, drinking coffee as he looked into the ever busy Lagos road. Deep down, he was thinking about her, his peasant wife. He had seen the look on her face when he stepped out for work this morning. She wasn't wearing her usual cheerful smile, and her face was quite cold. He knew it was something related to last night and a smile appeared on his face. He couldn't believe he would get his usual breakfast at work, and somehow, he felt guilty for treating her so badly. But she needed to leave anyway, he thought as he turned back and walked towards the desk. He heard his phone ringing on the desk and he sighed in frustration as he saw his father's name on the caller ID. "Adrian," Mateo called in a strong voice as the call was answered. "Yes," he answered grumpily as he dropped the mug on the table. "What did you do, you son of a bitch?" He asked in a slow but angry tone. He pulled a long face and his bro
Her joy knew no bounds as she received the call from her father in-law that afternoon. She would be going to Dubai for the first time in her life. "Oh no!" She screamed in excitement as she jumped around the house in excitement. "What's the celebration all about?" She heard Mary's voice from behind. She turned and saw the maids walking towards her. They had resumed duty two days ago after the two weeks off were over. "Ladies, you're speaking to Dubai madam. Father in-law called, and I'm going to Dubai!" She exclaimed in excitement and the ladies screamed. "Wow! Alex, you are so fortunate, you know. This marriage is doing more good than harm," Bose said and they all laughed. "Suffering and smiling," she said as she giggled with excitement and they all laughed again. "When are you guys embarking on the trip?" Vivian asked. "Tomorrow. He has asked me to come over to the house this evening," she said. "Hmm" the maids murmured as they looked at each other. "Hope you're not l
Her face beamed with a smile as they walked along the hangar where she could see the Jet parked out in the open. It was a cool morning and she was dressed beautifully in a white off shoulder summer dress and white hat. She could be seen walking beside her father in-law who was dressed casually in a blue vintage short sleeve top and black pants. Different men in Black suits could be seen in front of the jet. Two beautiful black ladies donned in black suits could also be seen in front of the men, with smiles on their faces. "Welcome, sir," they greeted with smiles as they welcomed Mateo who was walking towards them. They made a slight bow to Alex and she smiled and waved over to them. "Shall we?" One of the ladies asked as she looked at Mateo. "Yes, let's fly," he urged. Just then, the sound of a sports car could be heard speeding towards the hangar. They all turned and saw a white Lamborghini which was now moving at a slow pace. She looked at her father in-law whose face w
He took a black shirt from the wardrobe and stepped out of the room. He couldn't believe he had kissed his peasant wife. He wiped his lips with his palm as he moved to the spacious dining area where he could see his father standing by the glass walls, making a phone call. He stood behind him waiting impatiently for him to be through with the call. After about four minutes, Mateo turned to look at him with a smile on his face. "Hey, where is Alex?" He asked. "Taking her bath" he grunted as he looked away from his father angrily. "What? Are you angry?" He asked. "When is she leaving?" He asked at once. "What are you so angry about? Uh? Has she done anything to hurt you?" He asked with surprise. "I just can't withstand her presence!" He barked with his eyes turning red. "Really? And why?" He asked as they both faced the wall. "She annoys me. She irritates me. I can't stand a woman who wows at every little thing. I dislike everything about her!" He ranted. "Including her foo
As she walked along the beach, tears streamed down her face as his words resounded in her head. "Alex!" Vivian's voice sounded behind her. She didn't stop for a moment and she increased her pace. "Alex, stop making an old hag like me run," she cried as she managed to keep up with her. She stopped and wiped the tears from her eyes as she turned to look at Vivian who was standing behind her. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?" She asked as she saw the tears on her face. She sighed and looked away from her. "Speak to me," the old lady urged as she held her arms tenderly. She was about to speak when she saw her father in-law standing in front of her. "I saw you running away from the umbrella. What is the matter with you?" He asked as he looked at her face. "Adrian, he asked me to go and change my outfit. He..he doesn't like the bikini. He..he says it doesn't suit me, and I don't have an appealing body," she stammered as she tried to control her tears. "What!" Mateo exclaimed.
"So, you mean Adrian hasn't laid a hand on you since you both got married?" One of the women asked with interest. "Like I said earlier, everything is fine. We are both doing okay as a couple, just as you can see," she said with a smile as she looked at the women who were all staring at each other in disappointment. She smiled with satisfaction as she knew she had kept them in the right spot. She knew what they were seeking for, gossip. A gossip about her private life, and probably make her reveal some secrets about the Steels family. But she was wise. Life in the cocoa farm has taught her enough to be wise, she thought as she sipped her drink gracefully. From where he stood, he heard her speaking to the women. He stood for a while as he listened to their conversation. He felt broken for a moment as she lied about them being fine as a couple. He had expected her to gossip about him and his father, but no, she had acted with great discernment. "Wow, seems like he took interest in
The house began to bustle with activities as the luggage was pulled in by the men and maids who were walking ahead of them. It was such a long trip and they had arrived in Nigeria from Dubai at around 5:33pm. She could see the maids smiling at her as she walked into the living room with Adrian who was walking beside her. She walked over to meet them and they all began to laugh and chat with excitement. He walked away as he saw her walking over to the maids. As he walked up the stairs, he could see her chatting and laughing with the maids with excitement. Probably this trip was one of the best moments in her life and she was so overly excited about it. But he doesn't care about her excitement. All he cared about was for her to make him a good dinner as he had missed her food so much, he thought as he walked up the stairs slowly. As she stepped into her room, she couldn't wait to give her mom a call. She was missing her parents and friends so much that she felt like going home.
The whole place became crowded as a lot of people lined up to receive their own share of the items Alex had brought home. "My daughter, God will bless you. You will have more children and find peace in your home," the women prayed as they gathered around her. She smiled as she wiped the sweat off her brows. She was feeling exhausted as the distribution job has been strenuous. "Thank you my mothers. But the truth is that, my father in-law has sent these things over to you. So you should also direct your blessings to him," she said and they all began to murmur in surprise. "Really? Mateo sent these items to us?" They asked in surprise and she nodded. "You must have really changed that man a lot," they commended and she laughed. The women began to sing her praises and she began to dance to the local drum band which was present. "Alex, we need to capture this moment on camera! The world needs to know what you are doing," Bisi shouted as they all danced . "No..no.. no..when yo
