Chapter 71

Snow

"The lake is very beautiful when the sun is setting. I've always been afraid of swimming. I don't know why. People thought that it was weird that I have a lake behind my house and yet I can't swim." We're sitting behind the house, facing the lake. We spread a blanket on the ground and had our picnic. Now we are just talking.

"Why were you afraid of swimming?"

"I was afraid of drowning. My dad wanted to teach me how to swim so many times, but I refused. I want to learn how to swim but I was just so scared."

"How about we try that again?" I suggest.

"What?"

"I said, how about we try that again?" I repeat myself and she laughs. "Why are you laughing?"

"I heard what you said. I meant why do you want to teach me how to swim at a time like this? It's getting dark."

"You're saying this because you're afraid."
