Chapter 4 Why Is She Here

"Help..." She raised her head and tried asking for help. She raised her head and was met with a pair of angry eyes. Everly was stunned and stopped struggling.

The man stood in front of her, looking down at her with his eyes full of cold rage. Four years did not leave any trace on his face but made him look more mature.

The memory from four years ago surged in her head again, and pain started seeping into her already numb heart.

"Drag her here!" The blonde man's voice came from behind her, snapping her out of those memories. She lowered her head in silence and defeat, as she withdrew her hand that had just reached out for help.

She hated and feared everything that had happened in the past four years. She no longer dared to confront him, nor to look at his face.

As she took her hand back, a big hand grabbed her hand and pulled her up. Then, the hand grabbed at her neck, forcing her to raise her head and look into his bloodshot eyes.

He glared at her as if she had committed a heinous crime.

"Why are you here?" His voice spilled with suppressed anger, "Everly, aren't you dead?"

She struggled to get rid of him, but his grip on her tightened. A sense of suffocation washed over her, and darkness clouded her eyes. Even so, she did not say a word.

"Tell me!"

His angry roar was like the thunder in the heavy rain many years ago.

She stared at him with her reddening eyes and looked at him with a sad gaze. "Don't you know why I am here?"

Her voice was hoarse and unpleasant to the ears. She was very thin, and the smallest size clothes were loose on her body. She had strange bangs on her forehead, long and thick, which covered the left side of her face.

She looked at him with hatred in her eyes. He was the one who pushed her into hell with his own hands, and he was the one who shattered all her pride into pieces. Now, he came to question her on why she was here?

He had no right to question her!

"Let me go!" Her face turned red from the suffocation, but even so, Carson’s grip on her throat did not loosen. He seemed to have made up his mind about strangling her to death.

His eyes were filled with an anger that she could not understand. The blonde man and the others beside him were afraid of the murder happening, so they all came to stop Carson. However, the only response that they got from Carson was two words. "Get out!"

His grip on her was firm, and no one dared to stop them. She was dragged all the way into the funeral parlor.

In the past half a month, she had only been carrying corpses in the crematory. She had never been to this part of the funeral parlor. He threw her onto the ground, and her knees went purple from the impact.

The sharp intake of air choked her and made her cough. Tears and snot flowed down her face at the same time. Her hands trembled on the ground as she was about to get up and leave. However, before she could move, he grabbed her chin and forced her gaze on one of the urn.

This was a place specially used to display unclaimed cremains. In the grid in front of her, there remained a single urn, there was nothing on it but a black and white photo of a woman.

She stared blankly at the woman in the photo. The woman smiled brightly, as if she was ready to take on the world.

It was Everly from four years ago.

Although Everly was adopted into the Baxter Family, Carson had spoiled her to no end. She was the well-known spoiled brat in Cannesville.

She was a totally different person now.

"Dead?" His angry voice came from behind her. "Ten years' imprisonment, Everly. In less than a year, you pretended to be dead and escaped. Great, isn’t that just great!"
