Chapter 6 The Punishment She Deserved

Everly left. Her only possession was two black clothes with her in total. It was a cold November night in Cannesville. She still felt cold when she put on both black cotton clothes.

She walked slowly down the noisy street. The hustle and bustle of the world had nothing to do with her.

She walked from the suburb to the urban area for a long time until the world returned to silence. She paused for a moment and reached out to catch a snowflake.

It was snowing.

It snowed early this year in Cannesville.

She pursed her lips and turned seven or eight corners. She walked through a long alley and came to the run-down house at the end of it. She could hear the faint cough coming from it.

She took out the envelope that she had been carefully hiding, took out two pieces from it, and pushed the rest into the house through the crack of the door.

She then turned around and quickly ran away.

About three minutes later, the door was opened, and an old woman came out with the envelope in her hand.

She looked around as she asked aloud, "Bonnie? Bonnie, is that the money you gave to me?"

The old woman's voice was anxious and sad. "Bonnie, are you back? Did you come back to visit grandma?"

At the same time, Everly was gasping for breath behind a corner. Her tears started pouring out again after she heard Molly Preston’s voice.

Bonnie Preston would never come home again.

Everly owed Bonnie her life.

The snow grew heavier, and the sky was painted white. Molly’s sad voice called out to Bonnie again and again. The pain in Everly’s belly was unbearable. Cold sweat dripped down the side of her face, and she squatted down.

She spat out a mouthful of blood again.

She did not have long to live.

Carson’s face suddenly appeared in front of her eyes. Her heart instantly tightened as if she was struck by lightning. It pained her so much that she could hardly breathe.

Carson was standing alone in front of the huge window of the Baxter residence and looking at the heavy snow outside. The butler came over and reported in a respectful manner, "Sir, everything is done. Miss Everly will not be allowed to work anywhere in the sex industry within Cannesville."

"In addition, Miss Pettis has been fired from the funeral parlor, and she hasn't found a new job. As for the ashes displayed in the funeral parlor, her name has been removed. What would you like to do with Miss Pettis next?"

Carson did not answer right away, and the butler waited silently.

Four years ago, when Everly ‘died’, although Carson had only asked the butler to find a random place to bury her, Carson would go to visit her on her death anniversary every year. No one had expected Everly to be still alive.

"What did the warden say?" He asked.

"I just got the news that Miss Everly was arrogant in prison and refused to admit her mistakes. She even bullied others by using your name. Later, she bullied a woman named Bonnie Preston to her death, and she took the opportunity to bribe someone and get out of prison by pretending to be Bonnie." The butler said as he handed the documents from the prison to Carson.

Carson’s dark eyes flared with anger as he looked at the surveillance pictures of Everly bullying others and the pictures of Bonnie on the document.

Everly did not stop at killing Layla. She did not reflect on her actions in prison. She even killed someone else when she was in there!

Carson’s hand gripped the documents tighter and the veins on his hands started showing.

"Give her the hardest, filthiest, most tiring, and least paid job!" His cold voice came through, and his eyes were dark. He said, "Since she has escaped from prison, she still has to pay her dues out here! Don’t stop until she knows what she did wrong!"

"This is the punishment she deserves!"

The butler answered in agreement and left. Carson was once again standing alone.

He seemed to see her skinny face at the back of his head again. His fists were clenched tightly, and his veins popped out. Finally, he closed his eyes, turned around, and stopped thinking about her.
