Chapter 10 Crying as She Begs for Forgiveness

He spat out that sentence unswervingly then left. She used all her might to get up, hoping to catch the last beam of light before the door shut. However, the door shut firmly before her with a slam.

“Open the door!” She called out hoarsely, reaching her hands out to knock the door relentlessly. Her voice echoed shrilly in the room, but no one answered. Another flash of lightning and thunder lit up the ground, covered in splotches of her blood and the walls covered in photos.

She seemed to have returned to prison once again where those women would beat and kick her, stripping her of her coat before locking her in the bathroom for three days and three nights.

“I beg you, please let me out…”

She cried as she begged, beating against the door. It was exactly the same as it was back then. There was no response, in fact, she could almost hear the sound of their laughter ringing in her ears.

“What about Miss Pettis? Hahaha, that’s ancient history. She’s our slave now! Mr. Baxter told us to teach her a good lesson!”

“That’s right. Did she really think that she was someone special? Look at her now. We’ve completely crushed her. Mr. Baxter doesn’t love her at all. She’s just a lowlife!”

Everything from the prison reappeared over and over again.

“Ahh!”

She suddenly yelled loudly until she was exhausted. She yelled until her throat bled. Despite that, no one came. In the end, she stopped calling out. She curled into a ball and shrank into a corner, all alone.

The entire house was shrouded in darkness. Freezing rain began to fall outside, causing the house to become even colder.

She leaned against the corner, shivering non-stop. Blood continued to drip down her hands. Her tears slid down her cheeks, making everything damp.

Carson was sitting on the sofa in the living room. There was a laptop by his elbow. Sounds could be heard from that room in waves, from the hammering of the door to shrieking until it became silent. Even though the villa was adequately heated, the temperature around Carson seemed to become colder.

The butler standing to one side looked worriedly toward the door and spoke hesitatingly, “Sir, about Miss Pettis…”

“Ignore her!” His furious voice rang out. The butler was stunned. He then turned to see Carson’s livid expression.

“There’s no need to give her lunch or dinner. Let her starve! I want to see if she can ever change!” He said angrily.

“But…” The butler seemed about to say something, but when he saw Carson’s cold eyes, he decided to keep his mouth shut. He let out a long sigh instead.

“Yes, sir!” After saying that, the butler went off to deal with other affairs, leaving Carson on his own. His eagle-like eyes narrowed as they focused on the tightly-shut door. His lips were pursed so tightly that they formed a straight line. His eyes were filled with deep hatred.

Everly was curled up in the corner of the room the whole time, not making a single move. The blood on her hands had dried up, and she was all out of tears too. She did not know how much time had passed.

With a creak, the closed-door swung open, and a beam of light from outside shone down on her. Numbly, she raised her head and saw the two people standing before her.

It was him and another woman. The woman had exquisite wavy hair and pretty features. She looked a lot like the woman in the photos on the walls. She was Layla’s younger sister, Lisa White.

He narrowed his eyes as he looked at her. There was not a hint of regret or sadness in his gaze.

“Have you learned your lesson?” His icy voice rang out.

Lisa, who stood beside him, looked mockingly at Everly. They acted like they were swooping down from on high with an air of superiority as they looked down on Everly in her sorry state.

Was she wrong? She had done nothing wrong. Why was everyone asking her the same question?

Four years have gone by. Was Layla White so important to all of them?! What about her? What was she to them? If they have decided to despise her, then why did they bother treating her well at the start? Why did they give her hope only to send her brutally down to hell?

She was all out of tears and her throat was unbearably hoarse as she said, “I’ve done nothing wrong.”
