Chapter 13 No More Nostalgia

She wailed even more now.

She hated this feeling!

Everything happened because of him, but he appeared when she was most vulnerable, giving her a moment of tenderness, making her longing for more. She hated her own cowardice.

She hated herself for not remembering the pain, and for not learning from the past!

Why did she fall again just by his slightest act of tenderness and one gaze?

Her heart seemed to be held instantaneously, and she could not breathe. She saw his lips open and close, and his voice was heard, “Follow me back.”

It was exactly the same many years ago.

She clenched her fists and trembled. The wounds burst open again, staining the bandage a scarlet hue. She gritted her teeth, and with dire determination, she turned to flee.

She could not go back with him. He only wanted her to make atonement, but she needed to earn more money. Granny Preston needed money to stay alive!

She could not let him know about Granny Preston. He was ruthless, and he would definitely harm Granny Preston once he found out!

He still stood in the snow without moving, and a bunch of bodyguards were already chasing after her. She was immediately overtaken and was pinned to the ground in no time.

She struggled desperately while he was still standing on the same spot. His cold eyes were unreadable.

“Take her home!” His voice was colder than the snow in the sky.

“Carson Baxter!” She roared his name furiously.

However, he did not respond, nor did he even look at her. He turned and headed to the car.

In Baxter residence.

Everly was hauled onto the carpet in the living room. The heater in the living room was turned on, warming her frozen body gradually. She was enveloped in the irresistible warmth.

However, this ounce of warmth did not belong to her, just like the man that was never hers.

She gritted her teeth and got up. She wanted to leave once she dragged her body up, but she was stopped just after a few steps towards the door.

“Without Mr. Baxter’s permission, no one can come and go at will,” the bodyguard said coldly.

No one…

She laughed suddenly as if she sensed something from behind, and she turned around. The first thing she saw was him, standing on the second floor, looking down at her from a distance. He was standing there with no emotion in his dark eyes.

“Let me go,” she said, her voice soft but clear.

He did not move, and the butler’s voice rang, “Miss Pettis, Mr. Baxter has already given an order. No one can defy him.”

She did not look at the butler, only fixing her gaze on Carson on the second floor from afar. She waited for him to answer.

“Miss Pettis, the snow is heavy outside. It’s not good if it freezes you when you go out. There's a heater here and later you can have dinner and take a good bath. And then you can rest as well, okay? Why bother going out…” The butler continued to persuade her.

She was still silent, locking her gaze at Carson at the other end. Her eyes were red.

He did not move at all, looking at her as if she was a doll that he could fiddle with.

“Everly…”

“Let me out!” She suddenly yelled, breaking the silence. She seemed to have exhausted all her strength, and her voice echoed throughout the villa.

“Carson Baxter, I’m not your dog! I’m an independent person and you can’t ground me here!” She could not stay here, although there was a heater, dinner and hot bath. Everything here was tempting her to stay, but she knew they did not belong to her!

She had nothing left, and she could not lose Granny Preston anymore!

She was going to make money and take care of Granny Preston. She… would not long for the things that were no longer hers!

Carson did not respond. The cool in him was evaporating drastically, and his eyes now only reflected seething rage.
