Chapter 48

The third festival was a masquerade filled with wonder and excitement. Everyone’s true identity was hidden under masks and elaborate costumes. I was wearing a modest white mask and Gregory wore a blue mask with a large bent beak that would have made him unrecognizable had it not been for the fact that I had already seen it before the party. Everyone was anonymous under their mask and I spent a long time trying to decipher the identity of the guests.

I tried to enjoy the party but it was impossible for me to do it, I could not forget about the poison and the letter. I knew I would never harm Gregory, but I had no idea what the other person was planning to do, and that made me anxious. I would die if something bad happened to Gregory.

I danced and laughed and pretended nothing was troubling me, Gregory did the same although he did not feel so comfortable around his subjects any more n
