CHAPTER 5 - Her Scent and Her Voice

Clayton, now twenty-six years old opened his eyes but immediately shut them after being blinded by an intense lighting shone above him. He moved his head to the side to try eliminating the illumination. He tried raising his one arm to shield his eyes but felt it heavy and immobile now.

He was attacked, taken by surprise by a trap that he knew his brother had set up. Ever since he had overtaken him and became the alpha of their pack, Conrad had never forgiven him for taking what he thinks was rightfully his. It had finally confirmed Clayton’s suspicions that his brother had pledged his allegiance to their father’s old nemesis, Ian Fullerton, alpha of The Rebel Rogues.

Clayton was on a mission on a source that he got with regards to the last wishes that his grandmother had told him. It has been five years since her death, but up to this day, he had managed to only accomplish one. But, only a bare minimum.

With Lily’s research and help, she finally discovered that the prophecy told to them when they were young, was only the first part. According to her research and the old members she had spoken to, the prophecy has three parts of it.

“Then, who the hell knows about the rest?” Liam asked intently. “Where on earth are we going to get or find the last two parts?”

“Did they say who made that prophecy, Lily?” He continued to question his twin sister.

Lily shook her head.

“The Sigma Wolf that grandma has told me about,” Clayton finally said, breaking his silence. “That was the last word she uttered to me before grandpa arrived. She said there is a Sigma before she stopped.”

“We’ve been looking everywhere for that sigma,” Liam pointed out. “Even asking our allies but we all got negative results. It’s one in millions, Clay. They’re complicated and if ever we find that one, how sure are we that he’s going to cooperate? Nobody can control a sigma.”

“There’s still one place where we haven’t look,” Clayton commented.

“You must be joking,” Lily answered after a few seconds. “No way will a sigma wolf situate himself in a place where no wolves had ever lived. Temporary, maybe but not permanent.”

“Humans?” Liam asked and Lily nodded.

But stubborn as he is, Clayton ventured towards the neutral grounds and stepped into human territory. Despite knowing the trait of a sigma wolf, Clayton just wants to check if he can be able to pick up a scent. If there’s one thing that a sigma cannot control, is the scent one has.

He just didn’t count for his brother to be tailing him and launching a surprise attack, which landed him to wherever he is right now.

Where the hell am I? He thought furiously.

He tried moving his body but to no avail. He felt both of his hands are tied, a certain soft cloth bounding him around his two wrists and tied to God knows where.

Suddenly, Clayton’s nostrils picked up a strange scent. The air surrounding him had suddenly been filled with a fragrance that is billowy and fresh. The scent he picked up was somewhere between crisp and rosy. It’s something new to him and he desperately wanted more of that.

Alluring and seductive, he thought.

“Arah, you need to move over so I can check the extreme of the injuries he sustained,” a male voice had ordered firmly. The voice also let out an irritated sigh. “Will you please stop yourself from worrying? Get that look off your face! You don’t even know him!”

Clayton, precipitously wanted to reprimand the person whoever that voice belongs to. Does he have an idea or know that he is an alpha of his pack? How dare he tells that Arah lady to stop worrying over his plight! The minute he can finally open his eyes and get up, he will put that idiot in his place while he will reward the girl who is worried over him.

“I can’t help it!” A female voice argued lightly. She let out a disgruntled sigh. “Try having those injuries on you and I will be showing the same thing. Just make sure that he’s going to be okay in the morning.”

The voice Clayton just heard felt soothing and somehow calming his body. The sweet-sounding voice seemed to run through his veins and healing his body from whatever injuries he has sustained. That voice belonging to the woman perfectly match the scent he had picked up.

“Why don’t you call Jacklyn and ask her to fetch you?” Another female voice suggested. “We can take care of him, dear. You need to go home, have dinner, and get some rest. You look tired.”

“I’ll wait until Matt finishes,” the sweet voice answered. “We can go home together. It’s late for Jacklyn to come over and fetch me. I don’t mind waiting. I can check the other patient.”

Clayton felt unexplainable jealousy rising inside him at the response of the voice that she will be waiting for that other person. He was so eaten by his jealousy that he was finally able to move his one hand.

“Look! He moved his hand!”

“Arah,” the male voice complained again. “You’re disturbing us. I want to finish this as soon as possible so we can go home. Call Jacklyn and tell her about the situation, alright? Then, just keep quiet there. Or as you mentioned, go and check on the other patient. It will help your mind keep off the situation right now.”

“Okay,” she responded softly. “The sooner you fix him, the sooner his injuries will start healing.”

Clayton, after a long while, finally felt the pain subsiding from him. Although, he could still not open his eyes from the grogginess he is feeling as well as from the blow thrown to his head, he could finally feel his fingers and feet moving.

“Is he going to be okay?”

That voice again. That sweet and alluring voice. He wanted to listen to it forever.

“He’ll wake up tomorrow,” the other woman answered. “Go home, Arah. I’ll take care of him. You need to go home, now. It’s not suitable for you to still be here.”

“You, guys, should really stop treating me like I’m still ten-years-old,” Arah groaned lightly. “But, just to get you off my back, alright. I’m sure Matt is finishing up from cleaning. We’ll go ahead once he comes back here.”

Don’t go! Clayton shouted in his mind.

“Huh?!” The voice belonging to the girl named, Arah asked in surprise. “Did you say something, Gloria? I thought I heard you say, ‘Don’t go’.”

“No, I didn’t,” Gloria answered uneasily.

Clayton felt something pricking him and he tried to fight it off but to no avail.

“Let’s go, Arah,” the voice belonging to that Matt person came. “Just lock up after us, Glo.”

Try as he might, but Clayton could not stop the woman from going. He felt unexplainable dread in him when he remaining scent of Arah has finally subsided.

“Kragen, are you okay?” He asked in his mind to his wolf. “Are you feeling better?”

His wolf, Kragen let out a grunt. “I’ll feel better in the morning,” his wolf replied. “There’s something in our veins that is making us sleepy.”

“They’ll answer to me tomorrow,” Clayton said firmly. “I will not allow them next time without getting clearance from me. How dare they touch an alpha without my consent.”

“Sure, Clayton,” Kragen answered. “You tell them that.”
