Chapter 9

Malcolm scratched his head as he drawer a chair out and took a sit opposite the Alpha.

“How are you going to approach the two packs, your highness? How about we send some guards to deliver the message to them before you take yourself there?” Malcolm suggested.

“I have to go Malcolm. We have loosed enough people than to await this again. Since this was the decision of the moon goddess, who am I to not listen to her?” Trevor replied.

“And as you know that the two packs, we are nothing when compared to them. It might be hard getting along because of their power and status but we have to give it everything it cost. The pack must be saved. If I don’t go to meet them, everyone would soon leave the pack making me look like an incompetent Alpha.” Trevor added.

“But you are not incompetent, your highness. Those people cannot see it but we can. We have seen how much you try and do things that people in your status dare not do.” Malcolm said to Trevor.

Trevor looked up at Malcolm, his face sterner than ever.

“Then I have to prove it to them that I am more competent than they think of.” Trevor said.

“Then I shall follow you your highness.”Malcolm said, bending his head a little.

“You can't Malcolm. I have an important task for you here.” Trevor said.

Malcolm raised his head and looked at the Alpha.

“And what is that your majesty?” he asked.

“Gather all of our able men and train them. Train them thoroughly the days I would be gone. We can't say if there would be an attack so I want you all to be prepared.” Trevor stated.

“Noted your highness,” Malcolm replied.

“And I want food to be shared all over the village. Everyone should remain indoors till I get back. Take turns and guard the whole pack. Do not, I repeat do not let anyone leave their houses.” Trevor added.

Malcolm nodded his head as approval and bowed a little. He sat for a while not knowing what to say or whether to leave. A maid cane to his rescue to call Trevor for his breakfast.

“Your highness, breakfast has been laid down for you.” the maid said and bowed curtly.

“I would be there in a while,” he replied.

The maid walked away quietly leaving. The both of them were seated on the chair.

“You can leave now Malcolm. Tell Denver to prepare the carriage and assign two of the able guards to me. We would be leaving after breakfast.” Trevor said.

“Your highness let me come with you. I would be able to protect you well in case there is a change of plan or something happen.” Malcolm said and knelt on one knee.

“And I tell you not to worry. You have to guard the pack while I'm away. That's why you are staying here.” Trevor said as he walked away.

••••••••••••

He got to the dining table and sat down. He was the only one sitting at this long table. He would have invited Malcolm but he needed him to take care of the things he told him. Different foods were laid down on the table, including fruits. His stomach rumbled immediately he saw them but he has no appetite for eating them. His heart was slamming against his rib cage. He picked the spoon to start eating but his hands were moist. He was trying hard to focus on the food but he could not. He eventually dropped the spoon, standing up to go to his room.

He entered his room and packed the little things he thought he would be needing into a small red saddlebag. He walked downstairs and saw Denver smoking beside the carriage. As soon as Denver saw their Aloha coming down, he removed the smoke and marched it with his feet. There were two tall and broad-chested guards standing beside him in front of the carrier. They all bowed immediately Trevor walked to them.

“Good morning your highness.” they greeted.

“Have you had your breakfast?” he said to them all.

They all shook their head in unison.

“Why haven't you taken your breakfast? Didnt Malcolm tell you to eat before we leave.?” Trevor asked.

They all bent their heads, not daring to look at him while he talked. He took a deep breath before addressing them again.

“Go to the main kitchen and tell then to pack my breakfast for you. I can't afford to let you eat here now. We have to get there before the sunset.” Trevor said to them.

They bowed down to him before dispersing to different directions. Trevor stepped into the carriage, it was an old ramshackle that his father has used in his term. He knew so well that the carriage was out of use but he had no choice than to use it. The faint smell of the wood mixed with the pungent scent of dust that has settled in it over the years, making him cough and close his mouth the same time. Every inch of the carriage was dusty. He took a napkin and wiped the seat clean. What did Denver prepare in the carriage that he did not clean all this? Trevor thought.

He had no strength to chastise him. He sat down quietly, his mind drifting to different things at the same time. What if it all went the opposite way? The two packs were not to be toyed with, when it comes to power, he was lower than them and when it comes to valuable things, he can't be found near them.

He exhaled heavily. The thinking took a toll on him. It took three minutes before Denver and the tow guard returned. They brought with them a brown duffel where the food must have been packed into. He took a long breath as Denver started the carriage. His whole faith was in the moon goddess. He just hoped everything goes well rather than what he was thinking.
