So Outrageous

Lucia sat on a chair while the children were outside playing. It was her spare time at work.  She needed to think. All that happened that faithful night she met Derek by coincident at a garage where she parked her car never left her head. She could remember how she was humiliated when she walked up to a stranger, telling him she wants to be his girlfriend. When she remembered how he called her unattractive, she just couldn't believe she really did such a thing. She actually did something so outrageous like that? Now that she pondered about it, she could not explain where she got her bravery to approach him, even seeing the kind of man he is. Was she really desperate?

Lucia was aware that what she did that very day was pure madness, offering herself to be his girlfriend. Deep in her heart, she didn’t regret it but for the fact that, that stranger rejected her, unexpectedly motivated her. She thought that the kind of man she was looking for was him. A heartless man who didn’t fall for anyone. She didn’t know why, but she believed him when he told her that he does not do love and never would. Maybe because she saw the truth in his eyes when he made that statement. She didn’t know why she believed him, or perhaps she felt that the man has an icy heart that would never ever melt.

But was it possible for her to fall for such an icy man? She wondered. Was it possible to love a man who is so cold, so cold that her poor harmless heart would tremble. She couldn’t tell but, like Eve in the Bible, she wanted to taste the forbidden fruit even though she was aware that it might cause her pain.

“Besides, didn't they say love is blind? So, my case will not be different,” she said.

At this point, she didn't want to tell her self to be careful because there was no need for it. She had nothing to be afraid of because she knew she would be dying soon and if she doesn’t do it now, she will never do it, so she decided to take the risk.

When she got back home from the orphanage where she worked for free after her graduation, she got home and her family were already waiting for her in the living room, watching their favorite movie channel.

They all had a peaceful and pleasant dinner before Lucia went to her room to have a peaceful refreshment.

After taking her shower, she laid on her bed. She had been thinking about that man all night, even when she was in the shower. Strangely, she couldn’t stop. Was it because he rejected her? Maybe probably not. Or It was because of his ever striking experience. The probability was high.

Lucia couldn’t help because she thought he wasn’t real as she remembers every feature of his face, it couldn’t get off her head. She then went to the place where she hid what that blue leather jacket man gave her, lifted the note and stared at it for a while.

As she lay on her bed with the note in her arm, her eyes drifted close. The next thing she knew was the sun streaming through her windows.

She rose and did her usual routine, dressed her bed and helped her grandmother prepare breakfast. Her grandmother didn’t like the fact that Lucia had helped her with the breakfast, but she doesn’t have any choice but to allow the girl help her because her strength was beginning to fail her.

After eating breakfast, she got ready for work and gave her grandparents a goodbye kiss before she drove back to the city at the orphanage.

Lucia's grandparents got her a car not too expensive to run her daily activities and meanwhile Daniella and her parents were no longer living close to Lucia but instead, they now stay in the city.

Her job at the orphanage was free, she wasn’t paid, but it didn’t bother her because she volunteered herself. She was told that her parents also volunteered themselves to work at the orphanage before they died. So for that reason, she wanted to be as good as her parents and more over, she loves children that’s why she didn’t see it stressful in being around children.

Her job was mainly assisting teachers during class time, she was assigned to read books to the kids during weekdays, except from Fridays, and she loved the nature of her job. She had grown to care very much about children and treated them like her family. She was pleased doing those things for as long as she was able.

It was Monday, so the children who haven’t seen her for 2 days were so happy to see her. They embraced her as soon as they saw her walking in the building.

“ Miss Lucia, we missed you”

Said one of the kids called Beauty, and she was the youngest and was Lucia's favorite. She kissed Lucia at the side of her chick and hugged her, so tight like a child would hold its Teddy, preventing it from been touched by some people who wished to harm the Teddy.

“ I missed you all too”

Lucia reacted to the hug with a smile on her face.

“ Now let’s go inside, your teacher will be coming soon.

Lucia assisted Mrs Blessing, the kids' teacher. The whole day, She read them a story with the tittle” the cute prince”. After the class was over, Lucia walked to a coffee shop near the orphanage.

She had sent Daniella a message last night telling her that she wanted to tell her about something, so they chose the coffee shop as their meeting point.

“ How are you? You were pretty drunk last night. Lucia looked at Daniella with a raised brow as she spoke.

Daniella was no longer the little girl she used to be, she was now grown up, and it was as if she took over Lucia's strength. Beating whoever that tries getting on her way.

(smiling) “do I look that bad?” She tried rubbing her face with her both hands. This time around, she was makeup free.

“Yes off course.”

“Don’t lie Lucia. I made sure I slept well.”  She huffed and Lucia could only chuckle.
