Chapter 1

Leilani-

This was just great. The one time I asked for help, I get asked a million questions. I thought that by contacting these people, they would understand my situation. I didn’t have time to be sitting here ‘chatting’ with a computer screen when I didn’t even know if I was talking to someone real or a computer program.

WL0033: Look, if you aren’t going to help me, then I will figure it out myself. I shouldn’t have expected you to be able to help me.

BrooklynB: I can help, I just need to know if you are real.

WL0033: How do I even know if you are real? This could be a trap for all I know.

I stared at the computer as three little dots kept dancing around in a little bubble, signaling that the other person was typing. If I got caught in here, my ass was grass. The last thing I wanted was to spend another night in the basement, sleeping with whatever the hell was crawling around down there.

It wouldn’t be the first time I have been locked down there, but I did try to make sure it wouldn’t happen again. Then again, I don’t think it mattered if I deserve it or not. I am pretty sure that Luna Trisha, had it out for me the day her mate took me in, after finding me half dead as a baby.

To this day I still didn’t understand why he saved me. It wasn’t that he was a bad guy, but his mate was the worst. When I was younger things had been rather decent around here. He treated me as if I were his daughter, until the day I turned twelve.

Then he started looking at me as if I sickened him. I still think it was because his mate has been on him from as far back as I could remember that she wanted me gone. There were times that he would look at me the way he used to when I was younger, but now it was more out of pity.

Alpha William occasionally would find me and give me things, even say kind words to me at times. At one point I looked forward to those special moments, it would make me think that someone did care. Then I grew up and realized he didn’t care one bit about me, he simply pitied me.

When I turned five, Luna Trish had started beating me and punishing me for no reason. She did it secretly for a while until Alpha William caught her. They had a huge fight, but she told him that if he interfered, she would leave him, and he would never see his son again.

Since then, he has let her get away with the way she treats me. I didn’t know what I did to her to get her to hate me so much, but it was like she had this personal vendetta against me. Even their son kept his distance from me, which just made me think he was nothing more than a coward and didn’t deserve to become Alpha.

For years Luna Trish has made my life a living hell, but I still can’t think of anything I have done to deserve it. I didn’t much like her, but I have never even spoken back to her. Maybe in my head, but she didn’t need to know that.

When I turned fourteen, she dragged me out into the woods. I didn’t go willingly, I had kicked and screamed all the way there. Even managed to get in a few good scratches on her, that for some reason never healed.

After she got me into the forest, there had been another woman there. Together, they tied me up to a tree and cut the palm of my hands open. For hours I stayed tied to that tree, bleeding out until the full moon was at its highest. Then the woman said things in a language I didn’t understand.

To this day I still don’t know what happened, but I am pretty sure I am cursed. I know I am a werewolf, but I have no wolf. At nineteen years old, I still don’t have my wolf. I should have shifted years ago, yet I couldn’t feel my wolf. I healed as quickly as someone with a wolf, even had the senses everyone had with a wolf, just no wolf.

Because of that, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t even be able to find my mate. I should have felt a pull towards him when I turned eighteen if I had met him, but nothing. Granted, I was partially glad at the same time.

The last thing I wanted was to be tied or anything to anyone in this pack. It wasn’t that they were all mean, it was that all of them turned a blind eye to what their Luna was doing to me. They all looked at me with pity but did nothing about it.

I hated when someone pitied me. It made me want to kick their asses or something. Not that I knew how to, since I wasn’t allowed to train with the others. That didn’t mean I didn’t sneak around to attempt to train myself when no one was around.

I even snuck into the back of the gym, behind the bleachers at the school to watch others my age train. I was pretty sure I knew the basics, but nothing much to hold my own against someone. If only I could do something to defend myself against the Luna.

Sighing, I ran my fingers through my long dark brown hair, brushing out the tangles with my fingers. Continuing to watch the computer monitor, waiting to see if a message was going to pop up. It has been at least two minutes since the dancing dots stopped, yet still, there was not a single response.

Who was I kidding anyway? The fact I even came across a website like this had been pure luck. It had taken me months to get the courage to message them. For all I knew, it was just a joke. It was doubtful that anyone could or would help me. I was just about to turn off the screen when a message popped up.

BrooklynB: Fair enough. I can understand why you may be skeptical. I have been in a situation that made me not believe someone was willing to help me either. I will send someone to come get you, can you find a way to sneak out past the borders, on the west side of your territory?

Was I reading this correctly? Was this BrooklynB really going to help me? Technically yes I could get out, but it wasn’t going to be easy. If I managed to get out and this all turned out to be a joke, I could get in a lot of trouble for trying to sneak off. I may not be liked by the Luna, but I was useful to her.

When she finds out I leave, which she will find out the moment I cross the border, the basement will be the least of my worries. My heart raced at the idea, but I tried to swallow my fear. Was I willing to take the risk and attempt to leave over something that I didn’t even know if it was real or not?

WL0033: I d

I accidentally hit send, when I heard the door to the office open. I knew I wasn’t supposed to be in the Alpha’s office, but it was the only place I could get access to the internet. Currently, I was hiding under the desk, with the laptop.

I held my breath, waiting for the light to flicker on or something, but nothing happened. I couldn’t see who entered, but they couldn’t see me either. As long as they didn’t come around to the other side of the desk, I could maybe go undetected.

“William, I swear to the Goddess, if you do not come out from wherever you are, I will take our son and leave!” I heard the Luna’s shrill voice say just before I heard the door to the office close.

I released the breath I was holding, just before peaking around the desk to make sure that I was truly alone. Once I saw the room was clear, I shook my head at the same threat I hear every time she isn’t happy. Sliding back under the desk, I picked up the laptop once more and saw a couple of messages had arrived on the screen.

BrooklynB: You there?

BrooklynB: Please let me know if you are okay? I didn’t get your full message.

BrooklynB: Are you in a safe place?

Maybe I should take the risk. At this point, anything was better than here. The last time Luna Trisha took her anger out on me, I had barely survived. Next time I may not be so lucky. Besides, even if she did end up killing me or something, at least I would be free from this miserable life.

WL0033: I can get out. When?

BrooklynB: Oh good. Be there by midnight tomorrow night and not a minute later. I will have a man waiting for you. Don’t be intimidated by his size, he will protect you. I would come myself, but I am expecting a baby any day now.

WL0033: I will be there.

BrooklynB: If you run into any issues, just scream.

I wanted to laugh at that message but decided to ignore it instead. Screaming was one thing I refused to do. Everyone else around me might be weak cowards, but I refused to cry about anything. That included screaming.

WL0033: Okay. I must go.

Without waiting for a response, I exited out of the website, then cleared the browsing history. Slowly I crawled out from under the desk. Placing the laptop where I got it from, I was careful not to leave anything out of place from how I found it.

Opening the office door, a crack, I peeked out to see if there was anyone in the hall. When I didn’t see anyone, I slipped out of the office and tried my best to sneak down the hall. I was just glad this house was so large.

The disadvantage to living in the packhouse was that I was constantly under the Luna’s thumb. The advantage was that I could get away with more stuff in the house because of how large it was. It was also easy to slip away without being noticed.

When I reached the door to my room, I thought I was in the clear. However, after opening the door, I realized that I was fucked. There, sitting on my bed, was none other than Luna Trisha herself.

“You think you are slick, don’t you?” She asked, her voice sounding eerily calm.

“What do you mean?” I asked, knowing it was futile, but still trying to pretend to be naive.

“I warned you. I told you that if I found you trying to seduce my mate, you would be sorry.”

“I really don’t know what you are talking about.” I told her, unsure of what she was saying.

“I saw you trying to seduce him just now. You threw yourself on him and attacked him with your mouth. It was quite shameful, to be honest. Did you think I would just sit back and watch you try to steal my mate?” Luna Trisha said, standing up from the bed and walking towards me leisurely.

Okay, now I knew she was off her rocker. Never in my life have I ever tried to seduce her mate. Nor has she ever said anything of the sort before. I wasn’t exactly surprised though, this wasn’t the first time she has said things that didn’t make sense.

I took a step back but was stopped by the door at my back. Turning to open it, I felt the instant urge to flee. There was something in the way she was looking at me, that made my instincts to run kick in.

“I don’t think so bitch.” I heard the Luna say, just seconds before I was yanked back by my head and thrown on the ground.

My head hit the frame of my bed, causing immense pain to fill me. Everything around me became hazy and I knew that I was about to pass out. I fought it as long as I could, hoping I could figure out a way to get out of this. It was useless though, as my mind was submerged into darkness.
