Chapter 8  Endangered Life

Chapter 8  Endangered Life

Rowan’s pov,

The moon was spreading its peacefulness all across the dark forest, but my heart was in turmoil. It was burning with anxiety and fear of something which me and my wolf couldn’t recognize. My battalions had already sent to help King Vincent on the battlefield under the leadership of the Waylen. It would have been convenient if I went with them too, but that night was the weirdest night of my life. He had already noticed my senses were peaked and the weird behavior of my wolf. Their howl noted they are returning to me. It won’t take long for them to reach me. I have to find it in time or I couldn’t later.

Everything around me felt like it was telling me an unknown tale. I was getting drawn to the magnificent aroma of moist soil across the ranges instead of the smell of blood from the east. I looked up at the tip of the ranges peeping out from the depth of the forest. They were challenging me standing with all their mightiest. If i didn’t get it now, I am sure my heart will rip into pieces.

‘There is hidden. I can’t wait anymore.’ My wolf eagerly howled, mentioning it while speeding up toward the ranges, as they were the fate of both of us. I was approaching those arrogant mountain ranges to see myself what they have to challenge me with? The entire forest went cold, abruptly dropping its temperature drastically along with the changing direction of wind flow, making me confused about the weather. Even though it was winter, still temperature has never dropped this low before nor wind flows west to east in this season.

Stridulation of insects went silent suddenly with the change in temperature and crumbling of leaves left only to hear me. The thickness of my fur and the roaring blood kept me warm, encouraging me to break the pride of that arrogant range. These changes in weather weren’t normal, nor my wolf getting out of my orders for things like this. I didn’t even know what it was but the connection I could feel just made me run faster and faster, ignoring the soreness in my muscles as I was chasing an unseen target an entire night, ignoring a sudden broken out war.

It was raging for me to run like a nutty wolf when my fellow warriors were fighting in battle. What is that my wolf was so driven about? ‘Was I only one?’ he questioned, filled with mockery. I stopped as the strong wind hit my face, which was filled with the aromatic fragrance of lotus. My heart was bouncing up and down, as I was so close. Soil below my paws felt wet and cold as I forwarded slowly. I ran so far just to reach here and when I was already here, my legs felt heavy as I wasn’t ready to get hit by the unknown reality.

Sound of bubbling water hitting the rocks on the edge of the river welcomed me. The streams of rivers were tearing as they were getting hit by the rocks, leading them to pour themself into the deepest waterfall of the ranges. I was surprised to see lotuses blooming at night, spreading their enchanting smell all over the forest. Something really weird is going on. Lotus only bloomers when the ray of light falls on them, then what enlarges them to blossom at night.

Black sky was still spread all over but there was freshness mingled in the air. My heart was still uneasy, but the burn had stopped when I touched the cool water of the river. My eyes were still searching for my peace. I drenched my dried throat with the heavenly cool river water, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy me. My soul was still looking indescribable around me, which was there, but wasn’t visible to me.

I looked around and calmness surrounded me, as it was a long-lost friend of mine waiting for me for centuries. While breathing in the air's freshness, I strolled around the river's edge, gazing up at the same mountain ranges who were complimenting me instead of the challenge of raising a newborn sun from its side.

Cool breezes were tickling my fur, but they stood up with a sense of movement. Air tensed suddenly for a bit but again got warm as it melted in between itself. I walked into the forest hiding myself with bushes to attack that uninvited intruder for interrupting me. My beating heart went to the peak, making me hear without even concentrating on them and the sweet smell of pears mixed with the Jasmine entered my nostrils. I realized it was a wolf but weird kind of as I couldn’t smell it clearly but as it was existent but wasn’t too.

As soon as the movement of my prey hiked, I jumped out of the bush with my thundering presence, ready to attack whatever it was. A loud scream strikes my ears, halting me from proceeding with my sharp nails on the paws. A pale delicate girl was covering in front of me. She had worn a light blue colored knee dress over her fragile frame.

A hit in my heart calmed me down as everything around me vanished except her. I need to take a moment to gain my conscience from her beauty. Mid length wavy brown hairs were covering her small round face. She was terrified and was talking steps back rapidly away from me.

‘No, stop her. She is our mate.’ His excited words resonate in my mind, making me freeze completely. Balancing herself over the sand, she tried to run away from me. Taking control of me, my wolf jumped in front of her, stopping her departure, but he ended up scaring her more than before. She was touring her throat with her loud screams, putting her hands over her ears moving faster than before.

She was so out of control that she ran into the water, climbing over one of the rocks. I chased her back to the rocks. She was hardly breathing, her heaving chest was testing my patience in this condition. Her curves were so provocative and nerve crackling to me. As I took a step towards her, she backed away, letting herself fall into the stream of the river. Level of water was gradually increasing from her tiny waist and it rapidly rose to her wounded delicate neck.

My heart churned, watching the wound of my mate, but before I could move, the heavy flow of the river took her with it. She was struggling to be above water level and I was frozen watching a waterfall ahead because she was really my mate. Was it necessary to find one and spoil the plan I created for long?

That stabbing pain was increasing as she was getting pushed over the edge. I ran towards her, avoiding the rocks, and threw myself over her in the waterfall. Her eyes were already closed, and I forced my wolf to transform into a human again.

Caging her in my embrace, I diverted her body, avoiding the collision with rocks. Cool water took us with them and within a few seconds, with a tremendous splash, we both landed in the pool below the waterfall safely. I took the impact of water on my back, squeezing her more in me.

With coughing a few times, I got up holding her in my hands in the chest deep waters. I looked down at my hands. Her rosy cheeks turned pale as blood didn’t exist in it, but her natural pink lips still tempted me to have a taste.

Her closed eyes flickered and opened tiredly, allowing me to see the honey brown eyes of her filled with hope. She lifted her hand, pointing a finger at my face, but before she could reach up to my face; she lost her consciousness again, landing her hand over her belly.
