Chapter 2 - What is this thing?

I fell down before I could avoid it. I felt a sting in my butt when my bottom made contact with the ground. But my sole interest was in watching the dog flying in the air before lurching itself onto me.

On top of me!

Soon, I was trapped beneath it. I closed my eyes tightly to avoid from looking at its dripping saliva. It was so gross and ugly looking. I could feel tears burning the brim of my eyes. There's no way I'm gonna accept dying like this.

No! There's no freaking way that I'm gonna die like this but what should I do?

Cuddle with it so it would let me go? This is not a normal dog. No dog can be this huge. All of a sudden, it let out a loud howling, followed by two far-stretched ones. I jumped at the sudden sound. What was that, a call but a call for what?

Oh my God! Is it calling other rabies to come feast on me?

I did not dare glance around after opening my eyes to find the dog's face so damn close to mine. I kept my sight on it and the latter kindly returned the gesture.

Kindly, my foot! I just want to get the hell out of here.

I heard more growling. When I moved my face to look out for the ones which were approaching, the dog growled and came dangerously close to me. I flinched as I saw the number of sharp teeth in its mouth.

He retreated a little bit backwards when two huge dogs, as enormous as the one in front of me, appeared from around the bushes.

Oh my God!

What if one of them will tear my arm while the other two will busy themselves with my other arm and leg? No way! I need to get away. And that too, now…

Without a second thought, I began thrashing around and screaming like my life depended on it. Well, in this case, that's a big yes. I just hope someone will hear my voice but even if they do hear me, will they come here? I don't think so.

Bloody little cowards!

The other two dogs neared us, like predators. Being the ultimate prey over here, I could only resort to screaming even more loudly while trying my level best to pull free. Woah! I never thought I could scream this loud.

Actually, whenever I have ever thought about being in danger before, I would always imagine myself being the kind of girl who would freeze like an idiot. Well, I should really praise myself, huh?

Unfortunately, my actions seem to have angered them so much that all three of them were suddenly on top of me. They had me trapped under them, ready to tear me to bits and pieces, just to get rid of me, a nuisance to them.

No! No and no! I've never been among those who would accept defeat. I have to do something. It's never too late. There must be something. Just then, my gaze fell on a piece of wood lying right next to my right hand. What's even better is the fact that both sides were pointed.

Okay, here's the chance.

Without hesitation, I grasped it tightly in my right palm. Weighing it well in my hold, I raised it to spank the dog nearest to me. What? I would never kill it. I'm not that cruel.

However, I froze when I heard an even more vicious threatening growl echoing around us. The dogs which were leaning over me quickly hunched their way away from me and wait what?! They freaking bowed in front of me.

OMG! Maybe they are offering their prayers first, before finally having their supper? Before I could get over this shock, another dog, even bigger than these three, emerged from the trees and growled menacingly. If I thought those dogs were enormous before then there's no words for this one.

This one has rendered me completely speechless.

The three dogs quickly ran away from it. I was left looking at their butts in astonishment. What just happened? They ran away as if their asses caught on fire and they were trying their best to put it off, sauntering and jumping around to get away.

Oh no! Maybe, they just offered me to their leader? Thinking about it, I glanced back to where it was but alas! The dog that had saved my ass was nowhere to be found. Maybe, this was the right moment to get the hell out of here?

Just when I shakily got up, I was pushed from behind. I fell forward but not on the harsh soiled ground, right on a warm soft surface. What was that? Right on impact, I had closed my eyes but as soon as I had fallen on the warm soft surface, I screamed.

You might ask, why?

Well, I was lying on top of the dog while it had its whole body laid out like a mattress. I jolted up and kept on screaming, closing my eyes tightly again. No way! I might lose my voice like that.

“Can you please shut up?” My scream died down as soon as I heard someone’s voice.

I almost yelped when I opened my eyes again to find the leader with its eyes and ears covered up with its two front paws. Aw, it looks cute. I wished it was really a cute little dog so that I could cuddle with it every day.

The moment it noticed that I had quietened down; it peeked out from under its paws and whined at me.

Am I dreaming?

Did it just whine?

Who had spoken though? I glanced around with a frown to check whether someone was hiding behind one of the trees but found no one and nothing peculiar.

When I looked back at the dog, it was still lying down on the ground and staring at me with an innocent look on its face. Why am I not afraid of this creature anymore?

Why do I suddenly feel safe? Was this normal?

As much as I felt somewhat okay now, I still couldn’t get rid of the engraved image of this dog’s snarl from earlier from my mind. This is a feral animal.

Without thinking, I sat down in front of it and slowly reached out to touch its head. Its glowing yellow eyes were following my every movement slowly, pinned on my trembling hand yet I did not feel threaten.

Just when I ran my fingers through its furs and started petting it like a dog, it closed its eyes and moved closer. I almost flinched but gulped before taking a deep breath as it snuggled close to me with its head lying in my lap.

Holly molly! What is this thing?
