Chapter 5

Maya woke up with a start.

Seeing all the kinds of tubes connected to her body, she was stunned.

What happened to her, hadn't she been thrown in the raging waves of the lake? How comes she is not rotten and yet she was lying in bed, alive?

Was she alive or it was an illusion before dying?

Did she hope for someone to come and save her?

Maya smiled in self-mockery. She had been adamant about dying and now she was hoping for someone to come and save her.

Maya closed her eyes. She did not want to think about anything and only wanted to go to hell.

She was suited to be in hell or whatever place God will see fit.

As she was contemplating taking her last breath, she heard some footsteps.

They were solid and heavy. It seemed to be someone who was well-trained and had an explosive amount of energy.

There were also some which weren't as solid, but she knew that someone was coming.

"How is she?"

"She is yet to wake up. But according to the marks on her body, she has been under abuse for a long time. Others were still fresh."

"It's like she had been whipped for a good number **of** years." The doctor said.

"Do your best to make sure that she wakes up as soon as possible," Ashton said.

"Yes, Alpha. We will do our best."

Ashton waved his hand and walked towards the study room. Theo was following him.

"What did you find out from your investigation?"

"The girl's name is Maya Brown. She was saved by Mark Syden, the now alpha of wind winders pack."

"What did you say her name was?" Ashton asked. He felt like he was hearing things.

"Maya Brown!"

"Maya Brown…" Ashton repeated the name like he had called it so many times.

But how could she have ended up at wind winders pack? It was miles away. Very far from his pack.

Ashton calmed down. Maybe it was just a coincidence. But looking at her age, he had some hope in his heart.

"Continue."

Although Theo did not know why his Alpha reacted in such a way, he did not dare ask.

"Maya Brown. Was saved by Mark when she was five years old. The young man was hunting in the woods when he stumbled up on her."

"According to what I have gathered, Maya Brown only had a piece of paper with her on it and nothing else. She looked lost and didn't remember anything, even where she came from."

"Mark took her and brought her to his pack but she ended up being adopted by beta Collin and his wife Melissa.

They have a daughter so they treated Maya as their own until Mark started showing interest in her and paying her a lot of attention.

Melissa felt that her daughter was being ignored and thus started insulting Maya at every chance she got.

On Mark's twentieth birthday, he had promised Maya that he was to take her as his luna but he ended up being engaged to Melissa's daughter, Lily.

After that Mark went for secret training and that's when Maya was cast out of the pack and made into an omega.

Lily also ordered people to abuse her and over five years, she had undergone every kind of torture.

She has also never shifted and Melissa always called her a jinx.

Those people were following Lily's orders, she wanted them to get rid of Maya by making her disappear from the face of the earth." Theo said.

"That's all."

Ashton was quiet for a good while before he waved his hand, indicating that his beta may leave.

"Go and check on her. See if there is anything the medical team needs."

"Yes, Alpha," Theo said as he bowed his head.

He had no idea why his Alpha cared about the no-name girl, but he had no right to even ask a question.

Ashton was left alone in the study room.

His mind was buzzing. It felt like someone had cast a maze over his head.

He had to clear his and think about everything that Theo had said.

He did not doubt that the woman he had saved was Maya, his Maya that had been taken away from him.

So she had survived and she was even alive. That was the best news he has ever received over the years.

The moment he held her in his arms, he knew that his long-lost treasure had been found.

Ashton was overly excited but when he thought about the torture and abuse she had been through, he wanted to destroy everything in his line of sight.

To him, Maya was born to be pampered and not tortured. Anyone who had touched a single strand of her hair won't be left off.

But for now, he would wait for her to wake up.

…..

Two days later, Maya fully woke up.

The other day, it was not an illusion. Her consciousness was not clear.

She thought that she was dreaming but it seemed, someone did save her.

Looking at the huge room, her mind was confused.

Where was she and who had saved her? Who would want to save a jinx like her?

But maybe someone who saved her thought that she was pitiful, not knowing that he was bringing a curse to his pack.

All the tubes that were connected to her body had been removed.

Maya yanked off the blanket and stepped on the floor.

Her body felt light like she had not eaten for years.

But she was used to it. In the wind winders pack, as a servant, starving was the order of the day.

Her wolf had not shown itself, so in her human form, she could not go hunting for wild animals like other wolves.

The thought of eating raw meat made her stomach churn. She could as well go hungry.

The room was huge and took Maya a good while to find the door.

She tiptoed out of the room, looking at everything curiously.

If this was a pack, then it was way richer and stronger than Mark's.

Just looking at the house design alone, you could tell the owner was someone who knew how to live his life well.

Maya guessed that she was on the second floor as there were a lot of rooms on the sides.

Just as was about to find her way out, she heard some voices coming from the balcony.

Maya listened for some time and after judging by the aura, she guessed that it was an alpha and maybe with his beta.

So it was an alpha who has saved her.

She did not want to eavesdrop but she heard something that caught her attention.

"Ashton, your grandfather is very worried about you. Yesterday he tried killing himself but luckily he was saved in time. He said that if you don't find your mate soon, he will continue to cut his wrist until he dies." Theo said.

"Does he want me to force fate to show me who my mate is?" Ashton laughed. He seemed to be mocking himself for being so useless.

"No. He only wants what's best for you. The pack has been restless lately. They claim that you are not as rational as you used to be." Theo said.

"You know I don't care about the hearsay of others, let them talk. It's their freedom to say whatever they want." Ashton said like he didn't care.

But an alpha who didn't have a mate was very dangerous. Not just an alpha, but any wolf who didn't have a mate at a certain age was very dangerous.

They were easily irritated and they could even result in violence which was very dangerous for their pack.

Maya listened and guessed that the alpha for this pack didn't have a mate.

Although he sounded like he didn't care, deep down, Maya could tell how pitiful he was.

Even his family was threatening him.

Maya had already tiptoed to the balcony. Even the vigilant Ashton had not noticed her presence.

After guessing that they were done talking, Maya cleared her throat.

She had come to a decision she didn't know if she will regret in the future.

Both Ashton and Theo looked toward the source of the voice with vigilance.

They could not imagine that someone had been hiding behind them without them knowing.

If they were on a battlefield, they could have already died thousand times.

Maya was embarrassed when both men turned to look at her with sharp gazes.

They seemed to see through her with a single gaze, especially the tall one.

After looking down for a while, Maya was determined to say whatever she wanted, thus she lifted her head and stared at Ashton, straight in the eyes.
