Pressured

The moment she heard what Kurt whispered in her ear, her heart suddenly started to beat faster and faster. She got scared and nervous as she didn’t understand a thing that was happening at the moment, everything was moving so fast. She didn’t see the man get punched earlier, next thing she knew, he was just on the ground.

Now, the guy who saved her was asking her to be his girlfriend. “What is he saying? I think he got the wrong girl, he might be mistaken. Something like this would never happen in the real world, this is something that only happens in movies. A complete stranger asking me to be his girlfriend? What is happening?” She thought to herself as she felt a little overwhelmed about all of the things that were happening at the moment.

"Are you nuts? I don't even know you."

Kurt on the other hand was just laughing and smiling at Annika as she couldn’t hold back anymore, she just looked too cute to him that it made him feel like he wanted to bully her for no reason at all other than making her blush more.

“So? Do you have an answer?” Kurt asked in an enthusiastic tone of voice as he smiled at her with that charming charisma of his.

Annika looked a little frozen since she didn’t know how she should respond to Kurt’s question, she herself knew that she wasn’t looking for a relationship at the moment since she needed to focus on the task at hand which was to make a quick buck to help her sister in jail. Or at the very least, help her get out of jail.

This made Annika more uncomfortable than ever before since she felt like she was being put on the spot, but she felt like she didn’t need to give an answer right away.

When she wasn't answering after a few seconds, Kurt let out a deep sigh and smiled at her again. He lightly put his hand on her shoulder and moved his head closer to her ear.

“Look, this is not going to be permanent, I just need you to be my girlfriend for maybe at least a couple of months? It’ll depend on my mom on how long we’re going to be together, but I’m not entirely sure.” He said in an enthusiastic tone of voice.

Annika immediately thought the obvious and asked. “If you need a girlfriend so badly, then why don’t you just get one. You know, the one that’s not a complete stranger you met at a bar.” She asked.

Kurt chuckled. “That’s because I don’t want a girlfriend at the moment, I’m not looking for a relationship right now, all I’m looking for is an excuse for my mother to get off my back about getting into a relationship, and don’t even ask about why I don’t just ignore what she wants because I can’t okay? If I could, I would’ve done it years ago.” He told her in a fast paced voice.

She couldn’t help it but feel a little confused about everything that was happening at the moment, Annika felt like she was being punked, she didn’t her feeling being played with even though she already knew that if she agreed to what he was saying, they would basically enter a fake relationship for the sake of deceiving Kurt’s mother.

“Why do you want to deceive your mother anyways? It’s like she’s the one controlling everything that you do…” She said in a sarcastic tone of voice.

Kurt nodded with a smirk on his face, the moment Annika saw his face, she looked a little shocked. “No! Are you serious?” She exclaimed the moment she knew what the situation Kurt was in.

Like earlier, he just nodded with a smile on his face as he chuckled. “Wait, and why me of all people? I’m sure while you were sitting earlier at your table, I wasn’t the only one that served you food or drinks for that matter, I know I wasn’t the only waitress that served you.” She asked in a confused tone of voice.

“Well, you're not like other people. The moment you went to our table earlier, I felt something odd about you that I didn’t feel with the other waitresses. And like I said earlier, you don’t belong in this kind of work. I can easily tell that you’re only doing this because you need to make an extra buck, or a quick buck. Whatever your reason is, I’m not going to go pry any further, I just want you to know that I chose you because you’re different from everyone here. Like earlier, I knew that you were going to punch that man, if someone else was in your shoes earlier, then I’m sure that they would’ve succumbed to that man’s wish, but you? No, you’re different because I can see it.” He said in an enthusiastic tone of voice as his charm affected everyone staring at the two.

Again, she was being put on the spot to a question she doesn’t know the answer to yet. “What is this man going on about? How does he know that I need money at the moment? Yeah, he might look rich, but looks can always be deceiving. I don’t even know who he is, I just met him today and he’s already opening up to me about those things, what is wrong with him? Doesn’t he know when and when to not disclose sensitive things, especially when money is involved…” Annika thought to herself as she felt like she was being manipulated at the moment.

"Stop playing around. I know this is just a prank. Where's the hidden camera?" It's not funny. If this is really a prank, it's a bad one.

He started laughing. He's almost gonna cry because of too much laughing. She rolled her eyes. "I'm not joking with you." He tried his best to stop laughing. He composed himself before talking. "Look, I know it's hard to process everything at the moment but this is not a prank. I promise you. The only lie that's going to happen is me lying to my mom about having a girlfriend."

The idea was crazy. But she thought it was interesting. "What's in it for me?"

He smiled. "I'll give you cash. It's going to be more than what you earn in the bar. In exchange for being my girlfriend. Don't worry we're not going to have physical contact if that's what you're worried about."

Well, she’s not gonna lie. She needs to earn more money so she can help her family. "Fine. I'll think about it first. This is a big decision for me. I can't just answer on the spot."

He handed her an envelope. "Think about it carefully. My number's there. If you have an answer, call me." Then he started to walk away.

She opened the envelope, and she was surprised to see a huge amount of money. This was three times bigger than her salary. “What’s this?” She said to herself as she found a calling card inside the envelope. "Hmm. Kurt Morgan."

This was quite convincing but she needs more information about him. She took her cell phone and started searching on F******k.

His profile was the first one on the list, she clicked it. His display picture was him and his dog, a Pomeranian, she thought. Good thing most of his information was public and she wasn't even surprised when she saw that he has lots of friends but wondered if he knew all of them.

Her eyes focus on his pictures. He can be lined up to those handsome and gorgeous celebrities. Then she checked his profile information. She was also impressed to know that he studied at Harvard University. She kept on scrolling down his profile. Then found that his birthday is October 31, 1996, but she doubted if it's true.
