Chapter 59 - Better Self

"Emma! Move!"

My head tilted to the now falling branch just a mere feet away from me, as I felt my feet frozen to the ground.

I should've moved, I certainly know that. And yet not an ounce of power surged through me to push myself to escape.

It was as if my surroundings suddenly went blurred, everything had been in slow motion that I did nothing but stare at the fallen object.

Was it the smoke? Had I inhaled too much of it for my body to coincidentally feel numb?

Or was it because of my shifting? That I hadn't used to its transformation that my vision went unfocused.

Either way, one of it must've been the reason for the overwhelming throb in my head, so painful that my skull surely had shaken. My throat felt like it was burning that all I could produce was a stifled whine.

And damn it! Why was it so loud out here? Where did those ringings come from?

Long before I knew it, my body had violently fallen to the ground, though the numbness had protected me from any kind of pain
