Blessed Day

The unique distinction between the Mystic Moon Pack and many of the other packs are we still followed many of the old ways and instead of separating into smaller easier to attack packs we mixed allowing for a more united front that also meant that our pack was known throughout the wolf nation as one of the largest and most powerful packs that existed. This meant there were white wolves known as the priestess wolves who were known for healing, wisdom, and calming effect. One red wolf family because of their powerful almost bewitching powers. They were limited to one family that had been trusted into the pack long ago because with their bewitching powers they could be considered too powerful if too many were allowed to be a part of our pack. The rest of the pack consisted mainly of grey and brown wolves that were all considered strong and many were fighters. Then there were alphas that all consisted of the black wolf, considered the most regal of all of us who had the ability to lead with wisdom and fight more fiercely than all of us.

I was raised from the day I was born to be one of the priestess wolves of the pack. We were far less in our rather large pack but still considered one of the most honorable, wise, and calming of the wolves. Most priestesses were easy to pick out because we were pale, blonde, and had blue eyes. The more powerful you were was present at the moment you looked at us as many of us had dark blue eyes and then others such as myself had crystal blue eyes meaning we were considered powerful in our wolves and would develop our mystical powers given to us by the moon goddess herself.

We were lucky enough to go to school still like all the other wolves just spent much of our weekends practicing our healing and if you were lucky like me you could assist the healing nurses at school after school. My mother had been a priestess as well while my father was a beautiful grey wolf and both of my families had been with the pack for ages. There had been many rogue attacks however and both my parents had been lost before I was five so I also had the joy of living in the high priestess's house as an orphan. I couldn’t complain though because I was treated kindly by all but I didn’t have many people I felt comfortable talking to and because living in the high priestess's house meant you had to follow the house rules so school was my only way to intermingle with my peers.

I had one good friend Reese who would most likely be a grey or brown wolf but yet to be determined when she became 18. A lot of wolves in the older packs like ours did not appear until after you were 18 because your body need to prepare for the coming of your wolf and it was frowned upon to try to let your wolf out before a proper ceremony. Reese put up with me and spent what little free time I was given with me which I was grateful for. Reese unlike me lived with her parents and had all the freedom that came along with it. I lived through Reese’s stories and appreciated her bravery and energetic spirit. Reese had lovely brown hair and brown eyes with a tan complexion that looked a lot more like everyone else in school. Reese although saving herself for her mate when she found them after we were 18 still spent a lot of time exploring boys and as she stated mastered the art of seduction. I did my best to learn from her stories and hoped I could be as experienced as Reese would be with her mate. Neither one of us knew our mate either but I was a week away from my birthday and Reese had 2 months so we were both eager and spent most of our time as seniors in school discussing and hoping we’d find our mate soon after our birthday.

From the moment I’d seen Rogan Black, I’d known I was attracted to him. It was hard not to be with his naturally muscular build, tan skin, rich cold black hair, dark chocolate eyes to match, and charismatic personality. In so many ways we were complete opposites in the Mystic Moon Pack but

that was because of who I was compared to who Rogan was. Rogan was to be our future alpha so his life was pretty well set for him like I was one of our only similarities. He was naturally popular because of his future title and looks of course. Plus Rogan’s parents allowed him to be involved in many different athletic sports that he always excelled in and he was already captain of our sparing wolf team something else I wasn’t allowed to join as fighting wasn’t considered a good practice of a priestess. The only moves I knew were the few moves that Reese had shown me and her occasional boyfriend that she had.

It was two weeks before my birthday that I first had Rogan walk into the nurse’s station with a bloodied eye from sparring that afternoon. Rogan was shirtless, wearing only some athletic shorts, so I could see every ripple of his body. My heart pounded as he walked in because I realized I was the one in the healing station. After all, the main healer had been helping another member of the pack and their parents who had broken their ankle that same day. I was terrified to talk to him because although we were both seniors we didn’t speak with our large pack it was easy to blend in and I was so much better at blending than sticking out. This was why even today I wore jeans, sneakers, and a black Def Leopard T-shirt because I appreciated the rock variety of music. I jumped from the chair and just looked at him as walked in feeling my heart pounding.

“Hi is the nurse here?” He asked nicely and then stared at me waiting for an answer as blood dropped from his eye. He waited again and then gave me a dumbfounded face because I continued to stare at him. “Um is that you?”

I jumped realizing I still hadn’t responded. “Um, the nurse is not here.” He looked around not sure what to do and I started to actually realize I could do something. “I can help you though, please come over to the exam table and I will take a look.” I walked over and started preparing a cleansing cloth to see how badly he was injured.

“Oh okay, thanks.” I saw him looking around. “I haven’t been here a lot. I didn’t realize they had students helping.” I stopped for a split second because that meant he knew I was a student here which means he had at least seen me before which made my hands shake slightly nervously.

“Yes they allow younger priestesses to help out in here and I’ve been doing it for quite a while.” I walked over trying to not make direct eye contact because I felt like I’d fall over being that close to the future alpha. “Try to hold still this might sting.” He nodded but I could feel his eyes watching me so I did my best to not let him see my hands shaking. His eye was already healing which was good but it could use some steri-strips and dry dressing to help it along. “I’m going to need to put some steri-strips on.” I turned around to get the supplies which made me a little less nervous as my mind started going into healing mode at least.

“Um, Kellina right? That’s your name, right?” I made an mmhhmm noise and nodded at him as I grabbed supplies. “So how come they keep a Def Leopard fan cooped up inside?”

I turned around and smile because at least he had paid attention enough to see what shirt I was wearing and shrugged my shoulders. “I guess they can’t handle the power an 80s metal fan could bring to the sparring team.” We both started laughing and my eyes fell onto his. I felt swirls of butterflies dancing through my whole body almost to the point I was going to pass out and took a step back bumping into the counter.

“Hey careful, I need you to finish taking care of me.” He said smiling at me again. I looked down and took a breath trying to compose myself. I set the supplies beside him and got my gloves on to keep his wound clean. I started going to work and tried to ignore the electricity that was going through my hand as I touched his head and felt his breath on mine.

“So um, seriously they won’t let you spar or anything?” He questioned sternly as if he was trying to understand which I did appreciate from my future alpha. It never made sense to me that we were supposed to help everyone else but if we were attacked we’d be dead in seconds since we didn’t know how to defend ourselves.

I was working and distracted so I maybe let too much of my honesty out. “No, they won’t let us do anything like that. They say it’s not who we are as priestesses but I’m not sure what the plan is if we ever encountered an enemy. I guess I should just let them kill me as I pray to the moon goddess.”

Rogan burst out laughing. “Damn, I like your honest sarcasm.” I couldn’t help but blush and did my best just to smile because I could feel him looking at me again. I finished placing the steri-strips and then placed a dry dressing tightly with tape on his eye.

“Okay, I think you are going to make it.” I grabbed my trash and took off my gloves. He still just sat there watching me cleanup which didn’t take too long but still felt like forever with his eyes meeting mine. I turned around and he realized I knew he was starting so he looked down and ran his fingers through his hair.

“So um, how about to say thank you for helping me with a private sparring lesson?” I felt the blood flow out of my face because I knew it wasn’t a date or anything but still the hottest guy in school, the future alpha was asking me if I wanted a private sparring lesson with him. “I mean if you want to?” He looked at me almost nervously I thought for a moment but shook that out of my head.

“Um yes, I want to.” I tried to think fast because it did have to be on the down low. “I do have to be careful though.”

“No I get it, so what about tomorrow? It’s only a half-day school we could meet in the woods?” I nodded in agreement. “Okay by the west entrance?”

“Yes, that sounds great.”

“Okay, I will see you then. I gotta run. It was really good to meet you Kellina instead of just seeing you in the halls.” He gave me a huge smile and took off.
