A knot formed in my throat at the sound of the clock ticking, and I struggled to eat a few bites of the food. Beth prepared it with extra care as usual, but nothing could replace a sinking feeling in my stomach.

The silence in my room was almost deafening, broken by the sound of my cutlery hitting the plate, and soon it came close to driving me insane.
