Wondering if she should go over to him and calm him, Martha knew she was not capable, he was too much in his pain to listen to her.
Besides, the pain he was feeling now was nothing to what they had suffered in his hands as his friend and girlfriend.
Knowing there was nothing she could do for him even though a part of her wanted to help, Martha watched for a few more minutes as he kept on hitting the concrete with bloodied hands.
Forcing herself to act unconcerned, she heaved a huge sigh as she turned her back on him to slowly walk home.
On the pathway that led to her house, Martha finally bent her head to retch painfully into the flowers in reaction to the pain she just witnessed. It was not until she vomited everything she ate that day, that she felt calm enough to go home.
