6. Looking into her future

Ryan waited just outside Shadow’s territory. He was on high alert and looking at the other wolves in front of him very carefully.

“Where is your Alpha?” Ryan asked Blake.

“He is on his way here.” He told him with a smirk.

“Where’s the girl?” Ryan asked him with a snarl.

“What girl?” Blake asked, pretending to play dumb.

“Do not test my patience!” He growled at him.

“And what if we do?” Shadow asked, coming into view.

“I’m here for my Luna, Shadow. She’s just a child and has no part in this.” He told her.

“Your Luna?” he asked amused and laughed at him. “She is not your Luna, she is mine. Unless you’re saying that she can have two wolf mates.”

Ryan looked at her in utter shock. It was not possible. A wolf couldn’t possibly have two mates, let alone a human. It was unheard of. Having two werewolves as her mate was impossible. Even a werewolf can’t find another mate unless the one he mated with had died. He thought Shadow was playing a trick on him.

“Where is she?” he asked, getting angry.

“None of your concern.” Shadow told him, “Now leave. Unless you want to have a fight between two packs.”

“I am not leaving without my Luna and I’m here on my own to get my love. The pack has nothing to do with this.” Ryan growled at him.

“Just you alone? Against all of us?” Shadow asked him in a mocking tone.

Ryan stood firmly on the ground and gave a deadly growl. Shadow and other wolves didn’t back down either and growled at him, too.

“Big white doggy!” Lillian said excitedly.

She was getting bored and curious about where Shadow went so; she came out and followed him.

She didn’t notice the murderous atmosphere and was just excited to see Ryan again. She ran up to him excitedly, but Shadow stopped her by coming in her way.

“Go back inside, flower. A battle is no place for a small girl like you.” He told her.

“Battle? What’s that? Is it some kind of game?” she asked him with a frown.

“Sort of… anyway, it’s dangerous out here and you can’t be here.” Shadow told her.

“Lillian, come here.” Ryan told her in a soft tone.

Shadow turned to look at him and growled deeply at him.

Lillian was surprised for a second that Ryan could talk as well, but Shadow’s growl scared her a little. She saw him baring his sharp teeth at him and hit his head. Shadow looked at her, surprised, as did everyone else.

Ryan feared he would harm her for hitting him, but he just looked at her, surprised.

“Bad doggy. You’re scaring him. Be nice to him.” She scolded him with an angry expression.

“Lillian, come with me.” Ryan told him, looking at her worriedly.

She looked, and him and pushed Shadow towards Ryan. When they were close enough, she looked at Shadow and pointed at Ryan.

“Apologize to him.” She told him.

“Him? No chance.” Shadow told her and looked away.

“Apologize or I will leave and never play with you ever again.” She told him with an angry face.

“No. I did nothing wrong.” He told her without looking at her.

“I’m going to count to 3.” she told him said and started counting, “1.”

“No.” he told her.

“2.” She said louder.

“Never in a million years.” He told her, but started panicking a little.

“Two and a half.”

“Okay, fine.” He said and pulled her towards him with his paws.

“Imoowry.” He told Ryan in a quick and muffled tone, without looking at him.

Ryan looked at him in shock that he was behaving this way and was even apologizing to him… in his own gibberish way.

“Hey, no cheating.” She told him.

“That’s how wolves say sorry.” He told her.

She thought for a second.

“Okay.” she told him.

Ryan now knew that Shadow was indeed her mate as well. He did not know how or why, but no one would make Shadow behave this way other than his mate. Even the wolves with him were shocked at their Alpha.

“We need to take her to the Elder.” Ryan told her.

“Not a chance. She’s staying with me.” he told her.

“But she has two mates. There must be an explanation for this. This has never happened to any werewolf.” Ryan urged him to understand.

“Two mates? You just want to take her away from me.” Shadow said with a low angry growl.

“She is my mate as well, and I have no reason to lie about it. Why would I risk breaking a war between two packs just for a human girl?” he tried to reason with him.

Shadow hesitated a bit because he knew what he said was true.

“Fine. But I’m coming with you.” He told him.

“Alpha, no! It’s a trap. He will kill you.” Blake told him through mind link.

“Then you will come with me. If anything happens to me, you will come back here and attack every wolf in his pack and kill them.” Shadow told him through mind link.

“My beta is coming with me, too.” He told Ryan.

“As long as he doesn’t cause trouble.” Ryan told him.

He told the rest of his pack to take care of their home until they return and then he went with Ryan along with Blake and Lillian.

Lillian tried to go to Ryan’s side, but Shadow grabbed the back of her clothes to stop her. She looked at him, upset.

“No running to other werewolves other than me.” He told her.

She stuck out her tongue at him.

He looked at her, feeling offended. He lifted her in the air and caught her on his back.

“Bad doggie.” She told him, getting a scare.

“For the last time, I am a werewolf. Now, hang on.” He told her and started running at full speed.

Lillian grabbed on to his fur tightly and leaned close to him. The other two wolves followed closely behind him. She looked back and saw Ryan running closely behind her. She reached out her hand to him, but Shadow saw that and move further away from him.

In a few minutes, they reached the Sunshine pack and instant got surrounded by the other wolves.

“What are you doing here?” Freya growled at Shadow and then noticed Lillian on his back.

“Easy, Fay.” Ryan told her, coming in front of her.

She looked at him, confused, but still being cautious of the other two wolves.

“What’s going on?” she asked him through mind link.

“I brought him here.” He told her and then told the other wolves to stand down.

They did as they were told, but were still cautious.

“But why?” Randall asked, joining the conversation.

“Because he… is also her mate.” Ryan told them.

Everyone looked at their alpha, shocked.

“We need to see Elder Esmeralda.” He told them.

“She is taking care of her father.” Freya told him.

He nodded and looked at Shadow. He gestured him with his head to follow him. His eyes went to Lillian, who was drooping on his back. He went closer to him and put her off his back to the ground with his teeth. She smiled at him and patted his head.

“Hey.” Shadow growled at him.

Ryan ignored him and took them to Esmeralda.

When they got there, they saw Esmeralda in her human form and fully dressed, taking care of her father, who was lying on the bed unconscious. She heard them coming and looked at them.

“You’re back.” She said, looking at Ryan with a smile and then looked at the other two wolves and Lillian, “And you brought guests.”

Lillian ran over to her father and looked at him worriedly.

“He is just sleeping, my child.” Esmeralda told her with a warm smile.

“Is he okay?” she asked him worriedly.

“He is perfectly fine.” Esmeralda told her.

“She mated with Shadow. How is it possible?” Ryan asked her through mind link.

She looked at him, surprised.

“Are you sure?” Esmeralda asked him.

Ryan gave her a confident nod.

She looked at Lillian, who was looking at her father.

“My child, may I hold your hands?” she asked her.

Lillian looked at her and nodded.

Esmeralda took her hands and closed her eyes. She looked into her future and gasped in shock.

Everyone looked at her attentively.

“What’s wrong?” Shadow asked.

“Shhh. She isn’t finished yet.” Ryan told him, seeing that Esmeralda still had her eyes closed.

Lillian looked at her curiously.

When Esmeralda was done looking into her future, she had a grave look on her face.

“What did you see?” Ryan asked her worriedly.

She looked at him with great sadness in her eyes.

“Death.” She replied.
