Chapter 31 :: White As A Sheet

Compared to before, George appeared to have some added muscle mass. The two men stared at each other until some time had passed, almost forgetting the tray of food.

“You’re working here?” Nat arrived at his senses, asking the first thing that was on his mind. Fate hadn’t been merciful to George, and unlike Nat who resorted to becoming a gigolo, George had much more pride in himself to go to such extremes for the sake of money. A deliveryman, a tutor, a server and now a bellboy were the odd jobs he would take on to pay his bills.

“And you…” George began. Nat anticipated what he had on his mind. He was probably going to call him out. But instead, he cleared his throat, “Where have you been these days, man? I’ve not even seen your shadow!”

Nat was relieved. He took the tray firmly from his good friend’s hands and placed it on the low table in the hotel suite. “I’ll explain it to you another time. But for now, you should get back to your job.”
