The message from an unknown number was sneaking up on me and requesting me to step outside and check my mailbox, which I did, but there was nothing there. I didn't respond to the text and placed my phone on the table. Someone must play a cruel joke on me. My pals are few, so who could attempt a trick like this on me? There is only one person who I can count on to always have my back when things become tough: my best buddy Hana! I washed the cup in the sink in my kitchen when I felt someone behind me and turned around to find Hana holding the mug in her hand.
"I'll take care of that cup while you get some shut-eye." As I say this in a low tone,
"It's impossible for me, Ella, to sleep when everything in my life has turned upside down. Luke would do something like this to me, and I was completely unaware. I accepted his illogical explanation and placed my total confidence in him, and you know what, Ella, I am pregnant with his kid. When I went to tell Luke, I saw him making out with a female coworker. What am I supposed to do now, Ella? I'm at a loss." To calm Hana down, I wrapped my arms around her.
"'I'm here to help you, Hana. Know that you're not alone in this." I can feel tears welling up in my own eyes.
I will assassinate him personally as soon as I learn how much suffering my buddy is going through because of that cretinous Luke. While sitting on the sofa with Hana, she wept nonstop and fell asleep on my shoulder when weariness had taken hold of her. I gently raised her feet up on the couch so that she could sleep comfortably and wrapped her in a warm blanket.
It was already 05:00 a.m. in the morning when I saw my dad step out of the room, all dressed and ready to go for an early morning walk. Dad looks at Hana's slumber form for a moment before looking at me.
"How is she doing?" Dad whispers to me as we go into the kitchen.
"Hana discovered Luke's affair when she went to give him the wonderful news about her pregnancy," I said nothing further, and my father nodded, his care for Hana shown in his eyes. My father considers Hana to be her second daughter."After returning after the stroll," Dad adds, "I'll prepare pancakes to cheer Hana up; she always liked them while she was in college. I hope she still enjoys them!"
"Hana still has a soft spot for them. After landing in New York from California, she invited me to meet her at a pancake shop." It brought a smile to my face to remember how excited Hana was to meet me upon arrival at the airport.
"I completely forgot to ask how your first day of work went; I hope the strain wasn't too much," Dad remarked while brewing a fast cup of coffee for him and me.
"It went well, Dad, and pressure is a normal aspect of my job." However, the worst part of the day was not wanting to reveal how unhappy I was to see my ex's face and have to work so closely with him.
"It's time to go for a stroll and don't worry about Hana; I'll cheer her up since she's like my daughter and I know Ella doesn't enjoy seeing people close to her upset." Dad's comments prompted a warm grin on my face, which was reciprocated by dad.
As I finish up my morning regimen, I check my phone and find James' good morning message, complete with a sweaty workout body and a picture of his delectable-looking abs, greeting me. The image of his abs made me feel like a horny adolescent girl.
"I'm missing you a lot, and you're making my heart throb here with that sexy picture that's illegal, James, and I'm going to sue you for it." I text back.
"Do I get a reward or not, babe? I'm ready to sue whenever you want." He texted me back, making me grin.
"Of course, darling, you'll have your sugar only when you're in New York." I replied.
"That's not fair darling, I'm counting down the days till I can see you again." James responds to the text.
"Babe, I just wanted to let you know Hana has crashed into my apartment and is in a tough situation since she discovered Luke's cheating on her." text back to James.
"Fuck that bastard, Luke. I'm hoping Hana can keep herself together in this disaster," James asks.
"Nah, she isn't doing so well, but she has me as a support system, and I will assist Hana, who has done a lot for me. But, Babe, I have to get going. Love you." Text back.
While looking at the clock, I saw how far behind schedule I had been, so I hurried to my closet to get out my black dress shirt and Creme formal skirt, and I put my hair up in a bun and put on some concealer to cover up my freckles.
In my hand, I held my black heels as I carefully made my way out of the Hallway, past Hana, who was still asleep. Stepping outside into my stilettos, a cab was waiting for me at the front entrance of the building. My nervousness about seeing Darcus again increased as the cab ride to my new job continued. I couldn't figure out why I was experiencing a peculiar feeling, and concealing things from James was also consuming my thoughts.
"Madam, we have arrived at our location," the cab driver said. My feet hit the pavement as I exited the vehicle and explored the premises. Finally, I get a glimpse of Sofia leaving her vehicle and handing over the keys to the security personnel posted at the car park.
"I thought you wouldn't show up to work, but you dare show ugly mug," Sofia stated, a snarl on her face.
"I have ignored your absurd dog barking," I say as I make my way to the elevator with this b*tch.
Sofia's attitude altered, and her eyes were a different hue when she stared at me. The air was so oppressive in the elevator that she strained against it, and her hands snaked around my neck, and she grinned evilly. Fortunately, I had learned how to defend myself, so I tossed my handbag at her, causing her to wobble back, and I smacked Sofia in the face hard at the same time the elevator doors opened, with Mr. Darcus Miller standing and watching the event unfold, as well as Avery standing.
"Ella, I only wanted to assist you with the File and point out the errors you made on your paper. Please do not physically harm me for this. I will try my best as you instruct." Sofia's voice was trembling, and her cheeks were crimson with my hand mark print."I'm sorry you had to witness this, Mr. Miller," Sofia says. I was taken aback by what Sofia had just said.
"Sofia, stop lying. You were the one who started hurling insults at me first, then you came at me first and choked my neck just now." I speak in a firm voice.
"So much for Miss.Hart's ridiculous antics. I witnessed you smack Miss Collins right in front of my eyes, and I need to talk to you about it right now in the office." Avery said in a commanding voice.
"No, Avery, I'll take care of this for you. Why don't you go on with our meeting? I'll be there in a few minutes." Then, in a crisp voice, Mr. Miller remarked.Sofia concealed her devilish smirk under false tears as we followed Mr. Miller to his cabin, and Mr. Miller looked at me with a glare of displeasure. All of our coworkers were interested to see Drama, and they were staring at us with wide eyes.
"It'd be an honor if you could explain, Miss.Hart." Mr. Miller said in a chilly tone, and I could see his displeasure in his eyes.
"Mr. Miller, Because I'm in a position of power, this woman launches a verbal assault on me first. Miss Collins overstepped her bounds when she strangled my neck, and here are the consequences." I say. To my pale skin, I showed to the hand mark Sofia on my neck. Did I see things these days, or did Mr. Miller's eyes twitch in a concerted manner?
"You should tell me your side of the tale, too, Miss Collins." Mr. Miller's gaze is drawn to her, and Sofia maintained her composure.
"Miss.Hart's allegations are baseless; I would never bully someone; I am the victim of Miss. Hart's bullying; you have already witnessed how she smacked my face hard," Sofia says. Mr. Miller pauses for a moment to reflect.
"Miss. Hart, this is your first and last warning from me. Miss Collins may take a half-day and recuperate while Miss. Hart covers Miss. collins work for the next five days, which means more work for Miss. Hart." It was Mr. Miller's statements that left me dumbfounded. What the fuck is going on here? I am not to blame.
"That is not required, Mr. Miller. However, I want to finish my duty, but I appreciate Mr.Miller for your honest conclusion and help stop Miss. Hart's bullying behavior at me." Sofia smiled at Mr. Miller, but he didn't see since he seemed preoccupied with checking his phone, beeping with an unfamiliar sound.
"You two are free to go now." Mr. Miller says. Sofia nods and walks out the door, and I lock the door as she exits the room. Mr. Miller notices the sound of the door being shut and raises an eyebrow at me in question.
"What are you doing, Miss. Hart?" Mr. Miller said, his eyes filled with amusement, and my body erupted in wrath at his dumb choice to back Sofia, and it forced me to work longer hours for Sofia, who had assaulted me first. Miller glances down at me as I approach him from his imposing height."Mr. Miller, why did you hold me accountable for something I had nothing to do with, although you knew exactly what happened?" I say this while folding my arms and restraining my voice, so I don't shout in his face."It was a smart move since others saw you smack hard on Miss.collins' face and I know you were simply claiming to be assaulted. Who are you to tell me what my discussions are right or wrong Miss. Hart?" Underneath, Mr. Miller's harsh demeanor was one of enjoyment.Sofia and Mr. Miller were making me angrier by the minute, and I just wanted to murder them both. What's the point of putting up with Mr.Miller all over again when I can find a new job that doesn'
"Darcus, what the fuck are you doing? Why did you kiss me?" I screamed in frustration, and Mr. Miller and Hazel had no emotion in them at all, and their stance was rigid. Finally, I came up to him and slapped him across the face, and I gasped in agony as my palm struck a hard granite stone face."Are you all right, Ella?" As I cradled my damaged hand, Mr. Miller's voice contained an undercurrent of concern for me. How did my hand feel so much agony? Is he a human or vampire? How did I harm my hand slapping a human? What the heck am I thinking right now? Mr. Miller walked over to me and checked the palm of my hand. Mr. Miller's feet came to a halt as I moved back."You are concerned and have inquired as to my well-being when you forcibly kiss me, Mr. Miller. I am an engaged woman. How can you do that?" I snarled through my agony, and when Mr. Miller saw my struggle, he proceeded towards the desk and pulled out the medic kit, grabbing my right hand and forcing me t
I made my way to Mr. Miller's cabin and stayed back to avoid being seen eavesdropping in on their talk. As I stood in the shadows, I could hear a female voice scream. The stillness of the hallways made it easier to concentrate on what was being spoken."Darcus, what are you doing keeping that lady near to you? I told you to break off all ties with her." Said a woman's voice."When it comes to that lady, I'm not interested in her; it's just business. So don't interfere, mom." Mr. Miller's voice was icy."The stoic mask you wear hides your true feelings, and as your mother, I'm tired of you lying to me about it. Don't you still have emotions for her, despite the effort I've put into erasing the bond?" Then, in a rage, she said."It's time to go, Mom; you need to get out of here because I have work to do." However, Mr. Miller's remarks have a colder undertone of underlying resentment."Fine, but don't think I'll let this issue go. You meet me at home,
"I don't comprehend what's going on, Ella." asked my dad. I didn't answer my dad's call because I wanted to chase Miller away. As I marched towards the door, I took my phone from Mr. Miller's grasp, and before I could slam my door in his face, Mr. Miller stopped me as he stormed inside. Mr. Miller received a frown from me while Dad maintained a bewildered expression on his face. Hana and Luke stopped squabbling as they were gazing at me. Mr. Miller knew my father was utterly ignorant that his company employed me."I apologize to walk in like this, but I have to clear the things, Mr. Hart. I thought Ms.Hart that you always spoke the truth, but I was mistaken." I felt the weight of my father's stare fall on me, and the guilt that had been bubbling up inside of me surfaced."Mr. Miller, are you becoming involved in an issue that has absolutely nothing to do with you?" I inquired in a firm tone."Could you both please stop arguing and tell me wha
Tears fell as I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling and reflecting on the events of that night. Why did I meet Darcus and agree to be his girlfriend is something I still regret today? My thoughts went back to the flashback and saw how everything played out.Flashbacks: Darcus and Ella's College Love StoryAfter my experience with Darcus in the canteen, whenever I passed a locker or went to class, he constantly flashed me a grin or looked at me. I always averted my glance in a bashful manner. All the females wanted Darcus' attention since he was such a handsome guy, and that I was the one who was receiving it made me feel butterflies in my stomach, and my pulse sped up when his eyes rested on me.After witnessing how Darcus looked at me, the other females on campus were hostile towards me, which continued for a few days after that. I was changing into my sports suit on that day when I saw the gang of cheerleader females walking towards me with
Hana had a lovely breakfast put on the table, and I turned my gaze towards the dad's room, which was still closed at this point. Hana's attention was drawn to me as I stood outside my father's door."Before waking you up, I talked with your father, who said that he didn't want to eat anything and would rather be left alone." Hana's addition made me feel worse, so I headed towards dad's door and knocked."Dad, please allow me to be completely honest with you and tell you everything." I express. But my father didn't answer, and it depressed me as I proceeded to the breakfast table, where I saw so much beautiful food, but my hunger had vanished."Thank you for the cheerful supper, Hana." I see Hana has already dressed to the nines, to which I respond with a grin. "Are you going back to work today?""It is not possible for me to sit and stew in my sadness; it is preferable to distract my attention with activity." Hana responds while munching on her breakfast.
"I hope you've planned Avery's send-off." Then, Mr. Miller switches back to business mode and changes the subject."All the preparations are underway, Mr. Miller, and I would want to express my gratitude for hiring Hana." As I approach the doorknob, I respond to Mr. Miller's nods as he returns to his work."Ella, have you told your fiancé that you're working with me? I'm wondering if you haven't told him yet." It drew my attention back to Mr. Miller as he asked a question. I narrow my eyes in his direction. Then I took a stomp towards him, my face contorted with rage."Hear me out, Darcus. That is none of your fucking concern, and you have already ruined my relationship with my father. The day I said yes to becoming your girlfriend was the worst day of my life. I wish I could go back in time to my college days and simply ignore you so that I wouldn't have to go through this again." Since yesterday, I've been itching to strike out at Darcus, which triggere
"What the fuck are you? Why didn't you tell anyone, and how can you still employ with asshole corporation? You can quit your job or file a complaint against him." I had Hana restrained by placing my hand on her shoulder to quell her rage."Hana, even if I file a complaint, it will be to no avail. Darcus has a unique ability to turn situations to his advantage. I attempted to resign as well, but Darcus framed a document establishing a three-year contract, which stated that if I wanted to leave, I would have to pay a lump sum amount to the company." Hana raised her eyes at my explanation, which I added dejectedly."Ella, are you serious? I never saw you give up in a situation before, and now that you've explained yourself, you've given up the fight. It could also be the case that you still harbor feelings for Darcus." Hana put her hands on her hips and looked at me with a suspicious expression.I took Hana's hand in mine and led her to the office building without
