Chapter 6: Friendship Broken

As I walked to our table. I heard the voice of Soleil laughing with another group of girls. When our eyes met. I gave her a smile and waved my hands at her. But she ignored it.

It doesn’t feel right at all. Soleil, I don’t understand why you’re treating us this way. Unless because you’re sick about Micah, and I don’t stand out as much.

I placed the tray on the table and grabbed a spoon of mashed potato. Then shoved it into my mouth. Another tray was placed on the table. I looked up and watched Joshua sit beside me.

“What’s wrong?” He asked me. I looked away from him and questioned myself for staring at him.

“Nothing.”

“I see,” Joshua took his seat and began eating his lunch. “Are you always this quiet while eating?”

“Hmm, you can say it became a habit. When I eat at home, it is completely silent on the table,” I awkwardly laughed. “Which is why I prefer being in school rather than at home, alone.”

I never thought much about it. But being in school is a lot better than at home. I don’t like being pampered. That is not a lie, despite my family being filthy rich.

The money my parents gives me. I don’t use them unless I need to buy some school materials. After I save them in the bank. Once I grow into a working adult. I’ll repay them the money. Even if they don’t need it.

“From what I know, you’re an only child. If I remember,” said Joshua.

“Yep. Which is a bit lonely. To be honest.”

I don’t mind having loud noises around me, to tell the truth. Well, there are some exceptions. That is if they’re my closest friends or family.

But the thing is. I’m not close with my cousins since my parents are only children. What a coincidence, I must say.

“Well. You’ll never know what the future will bring you,” Joshua smiles at me then greets Micah and Wayne, who arrived.

I can just say. My future is nothing but boring. I don’t even have a clear vision of what I want to do. That is what I wish to say out loud.

I sighed out loud and continued to chew on my food. Which I, later on, realized eyes were staring at us.

I avoided looking at them directly and used my peripheral vision to look at them. One word. Yikes. It’s Soleil and the popular girls. I have a bad feeling this will not be good.

I used my foot to nudge Micha’s leg under the table. I whispered to her, “They’re staring at us.” Micah makes it obvious and looks at them. Which made me kick Micah on the legs for being too obvious.

“Don’t mind them. Let them be jealous all they want,” Micah said out loud. Of course, the two guys heard it.

“Micah,” I scolded her once more, and she pouts.

There’s another thing I don’t like. Which is getting the attention of others. I find it weird having others look at me.

We finished our lunch as fast as possible for two reasons. First, Joshua and Wayne had student council meeting. Second I just want to get out of the canteen as fast as possible.

Micah and I arrived at our classroom. When I sat in my seat. My body immediately melts on the table. I sighed out loud, feeling exhausted after experiencing that.

If I were to eat with those two. I wish there was a place where hardly anyone is there.

“Come on. It’s not that of a big deal,” Micah pulled a chair out and sat on it.

“For you, it’s not. But did you see how those girls looked at us?” I complained to Micah.

“Jealousy,” answered Micah.

“Terrifying,” I corrected her.

“Either way, you’ll need to get used to this. It’s for the future,” Micah points out a finger at me, which I slapped away. “Meanie.”

The classroom door slid open and walked in Soleil. Who this time had makeup on.

She pulled a chair out and asked, “Since when did two get close to them?”

Is this what I think it is? I looked at Micah, and she raised her shoulder, saying I don’t know either.

“Just a coincidence. They just invited us for lunch,” I answered Soleil, who didn’t seem to believe me. “If you don’t believe me, then. I don’t know what else am I supposed to say.”

“Hey, stop glaring at her like that,” argued Micah, who stood in front of Soleil.

“I’m doing nothing?” lied Soleil as she looked down at her fingers.

“Right. You haven’t even answered us. Since when did you get close to them?” Micah angrily asked Soleil.

“I want to be friends with them. You have a problem?”

“Duh,” Micah placed a hand on her waist. “We promised that we’ll not involve ourselves with them. You do know who those girls are. They’re not just queen bees, but their families are powerful.”

Micah is right. Those groups of girls belong to rich and powerful families. There is a rumor saying that their family is part of the underworld. What I mean by the underworld is the mafias.

They are people who we should not mess around with. Even if we don’t know the truth. It’s better to stay cautious about who we befriend.

“Are you saying my family is not powerful enough to be with them?” Soleil expressed her anger as she hardened her tone.

“I don’t know much about your family. But I know you’re rich since you’re studying in this prestigious school,” argued back Micah.

Life Academy, in short, is a place where the rich and powerful people leave their children. Asides from it being a school. You can say it’s the place to gather your allies.

“Well, sad to say. You two don’t need to know about my family. You know what? That’s it. I’m cutting ties with the both of you,” Soleil pushed her chair back and followed by a loud noise.

As she walked away. I pulled Micah as she was ready to throw a fist at her.
