Valerie
My stay at the castle, though with a harsh beginning, turned out not to be as bad as it was in the cell, actually, much better. After blending in with the other slaves, I was completely forgotten by the tormenters as I learnt how to be invisible.
But the start was indeed very tough. Mrs. Manson, the head maid, had sought every opportunities to make me since my arrival.
I woke up at 3:30 the next morning as she warned me to be present at 4am and I stood there alone waiting for her until she finally strolled downstairs at 6 o’clock.
For the entire two hours, I didn’t even dare to sit down or leave the spot in case that she might suddenly appear. My back and legs were hurting.
I was pretty sure that Mrs. Manson did it deliberately because very soon after she came down, the servants and slave all gathered downstairs, being prepared to embark on their duties. She gave me the wrong time.
Mrs. Manson shot me a glance
Valerie My only encounter with a vampire before the auction was a very short one. It could hardly be described as an “encounter” because it happened so fast that I hadn’t even been able to see his face. But I can still recall the harsh squawks he made after being shot down. It was on a private after party of a wedding where mom and dad brought us to attend. The bride was my mother’s childhood bestie and she was very fond of Mathilda and me. She invited us to visit her newly decorated yard where the roses she planted was blossoming glamorously. We were stunned by the beauty of nature. She looked contented with our reactions and she asked us if we’d like to see her cute little puppy Betty. She told us that her loving husband had just build a new wooden kennel for Betty, which was placed in the backyard and definitely worth a visit. Of course we were delighted to. Mathilda and I both desired to raise a dog in our own family but mom never
Lucas This girl was different, and it’s not that she’s the first woman Xavier brought back to the castle. She was special to me because she looked so similar to her, my late lover Chelsea. The first time I held the girl in my arms, despite only a few seconds, I knew it’s her reincarnation. They had same empathetic eyes and delicate bodies like a malnourished flower. Her scent also resembled hers, a faint smell of rosemary, reminding me clearly of my first encounter with Chelsea, a human girl who had been serving Princess Elizabeth two centuries ago. Back then, I was the shunned vampire prince who had been sacrificed by royal council to marry off a human princess for the peace treaty. I visited their land with the envoy sent by my father for proposing this ridiculous arrangement which was said to be beneficial for both sides. That’s when I met with Chelsea. She was the only girl who’s not afraid of vampires. Up our arrival, we’
Valerie I was mopping the first floor when Samantha rushed downstairs excitedly to tell me something this morning. Samantha was the second slave friend I’ve made in this castle. She was an energetic girl who always seemed to be cheerful, and sometimes, the way she talked or laughed reminded me of Ava. But she was quite different from Ava. Or it would be more specific to say that she was distinct from any of us here, because she was a werewolf. That was not a secret in this castle and everyone else knew about it. So the first time I asked her about this, Samantha was not surprised at all. She told me that she was an Omega, which was considered to be the lowest rank in her wolf pack. The fate was determined since her birth, that she would either be banished or enslaved. She was actually contented with being a maid slave here, rather than being punished with banishment. And when I asked about the reason, she laughed. “Dear Val, d
Valerie It’s very hard to say that I had a good time being a maid slave here, but liked I mentioned before, I did think it’s much better than being underground. Sometimes, I would even retrieve the old happy feelings shortly when I was at the terrace on third-floor and taking a view overlooking the lawns enchanted by the beauty of sunset. Or sometimes, I would try to keep some hopes, like Ava always suggested, that I might be liberated someday in the future. Although deep down, I knew they were merely my unrealistic imaginations, I was tricked by the peaceful appearance of ever-present danger. I had always known that our lives, friendships or hopes here were all based on a thin string that could easily be tore by a sudden change of the masters’ tempers They could easily kill us within a blink of second. But I failed to be prepared for something even more torturous in a subtle way. If you were looking for two co
Valerie“Oh no! Not again.” Mathilda flopped on the bed letting out a heavy sigh, “I hate sleeping under the same roof with chickens and lambs!”I laughed at her long face, trying to cheer her up, “Come on, it’s not that bad Mattie. Lambs are adorable and you will love the sceneries there.”“For god sake, Val” Mathilda rolled up her eyes listlessly, “I’m not an idiot. I’ve been there three times and I hated every single minute being there!”I shrugged. We were going to spend our summer vacation at grandparent’s cottage on the outskirts. It would be my first time visit there and I felt a bit anxious. I had never get a chance to see my grandparents, no maternal grandparents to be exact. My paternal grandparents, as we were told so, died when dad was very young. They used to serve in the military and after their sudden death, dad was adop
ValerieMy scream was muffled into whimpers under his palm as the iron muscles around my waist tightened, making it even hard to breathe.I struggled frantically, trying to get away from his grasp. But any attempt to win more spaces was in vain, he could impede my moves with very little efforts.“Don’t move.” He warned with a manly voice.I was stunned by the fear of his strength as I sensed the vibration of his chest when he spoke. Then he adjust the position slightly and his hairy arm brushed over my cheek. The likely feeling of being touched by a real beast gave me goosebumps.“Close your eyes.” He commanded.Taking a last glance at our shadow under the gloomy moonlight before my compliance, I found this man was virtually giant with my figure being completely covered in his shape. He could literally break my neck within snap of a finger. Then he turned around abrupt
ValerieThe coming days were torturous for me with arduous daily tasks. I had literally no spare time to consider any of the puzzles I had about this place or my parents before. All I wanted was good sleeps after long-day work.Fortunately, my ordeal was supposed to be ended soon, or at least that’s what I thought so.The masters would all be coming back this evening as guests coming from a far distance would perhaps arrive very early tomorrow. That meant we would have to get everything fully prepared before the night fell.I was designated to clean a spare bedroom on the second floor by Mrs. Manson this morning. She had been completely resenting me after Mr. Drakos nominating me to be selected, so she doubled my daily work. Samantha implied that I should find a chance to report it to Mr. Drakos as Mrs. Manson was clearly “revenging” me for being “mistreated” by him, and that Mrs. Manson wasn’t only hop
ValerieI had no idea where did this strange feeling came from but when I saw him stood there alone staring at the statue in sorrow, my heart flinched in pain. It seemed like he was going to disappear from my vision in a few seconds. And I, for some reason, didn’t want him to go. I held his hand tightly and leant forward, trying to get closer. Mr. Lang turned his head to me in confusion. When he saw the soft smile on my face, he stiffened. His eyes darkened immediately with a trace of redness. A signal of craving blood.
