Chapter six

Emily's POV

Taking quick long strides towards the stairs, I make my way hurriedly to the bathroom as directed earlier by Kyle.

When I step into the bathroom, the first thing that catches my attention as I stand in front of the mirror hanging on the wall is the wall cabinet resting by a corner of the bathroom and I walk towards it,seeing that there are four toothbrushes there, three old ones and a new one which hadn't yet been pulled off it's wrapper.

I quickly tear the wrapper open and pull out the toothbrush. I also take the tube of toothpaste resting by its side, pulling the cap open as I slowly spill a layer of its content onto my toothbrush.

Once I'm done with that, I walk back to the mirror and place my hand over my mouth.

I exhale onto my palm and scrunch my nose in disgust at the awful smell that had just come out of my mouth and realization hits me instantly as I recall speaking to Tyler few minutes ago and his reaction after I had spoken to him replays in my head, hitting me like a shipwreck as I realize that he must have ignored me as a result of my bad breath.

"Oh shit!" I hit my palm against my head as my embarrassment continues to replay in my head like a flashback from a soap opera.

Staring at my reflection, I instantly begin to brush my teeth, making sure to brush every corner of my mouth as I stare into the mirror, taking in my own appearance.

Ignoring the puffy eyes that surrounded my eyelids,my gaze is focused on my hair which is littered all over my head like I had engaged in a cat fight during my sleep and I cringe at my reflection.

All my life, I've never cared about how I look so why do I care now?

Sighing heavily, I continue scrubbing my teeth, ignoring the bags resting underneath my eyes as a result of tiredness.

After spending about five minutes in the bathroom from brushing to easing up my bladder and then washing my face. I turn around, ready to walk out of the bathroom when the door pulls open with Tyler standing there in nothing but a towel wrapped lowly around his waistline.

His eyes meet mine for a few seconds but then he tears his gaze from me and stares behind me. I stand there awkwardly, watching his expressionless face turn into a deep scowl and without uttering a word to me,he walks past me, walking further into the bathroom.

"Yes granny, I'm fine and Kyle's doing great also" I say into the speaker, leaning further into the soft mattress while I hold the phone against my ear.

"Do you like it there? I hope Lateef isn't giving you any trouble" She asks with concern, making use of his middle name.

If only Kyle heard her just now….

An image of Kyle's reaction whenever the name Lateef is mentioned fills my thoughts and I force myself to hold back the laughter threatening to spill out of my mouth.

"Yes granny, everything's just fine, though this place is entirely different from what I had hoped for but nonetheless, it's fine" I assure her.

"What happened dear,do you not like the apartment? If you don't like it then we can move you into the school's dor…"

"Of course not granny… in fact I love it here already" I say in a rush, stopping her from saying whatever she was about to say, knowing fully well that her only suggestion would be for me to move into the school's dorm.

"Are you sure? You know we can always…"

"I've told you granny, I like it here so you don't have to worry about anything. Kyle is doing a great job in taking care of me and I'm starting to like it here" I say, assuring her.

There's nothing wrong with telling a little lie to prevent myself from being moved into one of those God awful dorms. I'd choose here a million times over those awful dorms where I'd have to share public bathrooms and a room with people I barely know.

I barely know Tyler also but that's not the point!

"Okay dear,be careful and stay out of trouble, I'll call you soon" She says calmly.

"Okay granny, you too" I tell her and we exchange a few 'I love you's' before ending the call.

The rest of the evening is spent cleaning the house with Kyle and by the time we're both done, I stare at our apartment in awe as I notice a big difference from what it was earlier compared to now.

Kyle had also called some lawn mowers to clear up the lawn and tidy up the yard and then after that we both sat in the living room, catching up and discussing random stuff,as we watched movies together.

I find myself staring at the door from time to time as Kyle and I watch a movie which I have no idea what is going on in.

Tyler,on the other hand is nowhere to be seen,he had left earlier this morning,a few minutes after he had taken his bath and is yet to return.

"Are you hungry?" Kyle asks, breaking the silence between us and I shake my head 'no' in response.

"Oh,that means you won't be joining Tyler and I then cause I'm going out now to meet him at Joe's Pizza" Kyle says.

My eyes widen at this,"Uhm…on a second thought…I think I'm hungry" I quickly say, rubbing my hand around my tummy to buttress my point which only earns me an awkward look coming from Kyle.

"But you said…"

I cut him off before he could finish,"Forget whatever I said, I'm coming with you!" I tell him and he stares at me like I'm an alien who had just fallen out of an abandoned spaceship.

If that is even a thing?
