Chapter 5

    Lucy POV

Here on the sofa, I watched Leslie’s tummy rising and falling rhythmically on my bed. My bedsheets was filled with the blood he poured out when Anna was treating him. Anna told me the Jackals poisoned Leslie’s body with their claws, and she promised he would get well because he spilled the damned dark as raven poisonous blood out.

After Anna had gone out to buy drugs; after I sat here on the sofa for hours, I noticed a strange thing happening on my bed. It begins with his wounds; I suspect his wounds heal so fast. Looking at his closed eyes, I wondered who Leslie was and what he knew about me. Why on earth did Sheena save him even before I met him? Did he know my Sheena, too?

I don’t know, but I want to know and hold the neck of the hidden truth behind this whole dark situation. Questions bubble in my mind like rain dropping inside buckets half-filled with water. I can’t wait for Leslie to wake and to calm my restless thoughts with genuine answers.

Amid my restless mind, I could see beauty in his face, which glows as morning rose. His face was cool, like the first breeze that swirled from a tree covered with snow. He looks so alluring, with winsome and curly hair. When I feel like touching his hair, his voice speaks in my mind and soothes my turbulent thoughts, “My beautiful girl, good morning.”

I looked at his face in clouds of confusion. His eyes were still closed, nothing changed. And then I felt anger rising in me. If he has the power and wants to speak to me in my mind, he should have addressed me normally, not as his love or his beautiful girl. Frowning at his face, I heard his voice in my mind again, “I’m sorry for making you feel mad for calling you love's name. I can feel that you are feeling uneasy sitting here with me on your bed.”

Oh, I raised my eyebrows; it comes to this extent of him reading my thoughts? “How did he do that?” I don’t know when those words dropped from my mouth.

“It wasn’t hard.” His voice in my mind makes me thirst for the answer. “You can speak back to me through your mind.”

Oh my god, this is strange and scary sort of stuff to try. How can I put my thoughts into his mind as effortlessly as he does? I stopped thinking when I remembered he would have read my thoughts.

“It was effortlessly,” his soft voice came in again, “you can speak back to me. Don’t be surprised because I know what you are thinking. And am sorry for scaring you the first day I speak to you through my mind as my dad taught me, but am so glad it works out for good for me.” His voice kept silent for a while and then return, “you are trying to do that too.” I heard him laughing in my mind. Oh my god, this is madness. “No, not madness. I need to teach you what my dad taught me. You just have to close your eyes and imagine a door opened and then speak to me with your thought. After that, you won't have to imagined the door opened again before sending your thoughts to my head.”

I hesitate, and then close my eyes, feeling tickling in my tummy as I imagine a door made of booze opened, and then I sent my thought to him, “can you please keep shut, you are scaring me.”

He laughed in my mind. “It isn’t easy for me to stop this because I’m enjoying speaking with my beautiful girl.”

Oh gosh, I widened my eyes, pressed my lips. I can’t believe I can send my thoughts into his mind, too. What is the meaning of this? Why me? Why us?

“Because we are met for each other,” his voice came in.

“W-what? What do y-y-you think you’re saying? I knew you cast a dark spell on me.”

“I will be glad if you have patient till I get up. I will explain everything clearly to you.”

I was pissed off when he giggled in my mind. Why can’t he get up and tell me now? I frowned, fiddling my lips under my teeth, and when I was about to slap his face, Anna opened the door, walking in. Thank God, she doesn’t catch me raising my hand.

Anna wore a worried countenance saying, “he hasn’t gotten up yet?” she dropped a packet of drugs on the stool. “I’m tired of everything, tired of this school, and tired of my life.” She looked at me, and the regret of coming to this college appeared in her eyes that has been filled with tears. “Did he open his eyes?”

    “No,” I said

    “Coughed?”

    “No.”

“He speaks?” Her voice broke off.

I remain quiet for a while. Should I say yes or no? He had held his eyes shut on my bed, pretending as if he hadn’t woken, and he had irritated me with love names. Maybe I should just tell Anna the truth, I thought. Leslie’s voice darted into my mind like a flash of light in the sky. “Darling, don’t tell Anna the truth.”

“Don’t call me darling again.” I realized I said those words out and Anna looked at me with confusion in her eyes. “I’m sorry, I mean he said nothing.”

“Are you alright?” Anna asked me,

    “Because I shouted?”

“No, because you frowned your face.”

“Oh.” I faked a smile to linger on my face, and then sent an angry thought to Leslie through my mind, “Leslie, you heard what you caused?”

His soft voice came in through my mind once more, “you shouldn’t have shouted, my beautiful girl. Anna would just think something was wrong with you.”

“Something is wrong with me already,” I sent the thought to him, “how did I communicate with you in my mind if nothing hasn’t been wrong with me?”

    “My darling,” his voice said

“Please, shut up.” I realized I said those words out again. Oh gosh, I rubbed my long black hair to the back.

Anna was puzzled, staring at me with her mouth widened. “Lucy, who’s speaking? Who should shut up?”

I sighed, dropped my jaw. “I’m sorry. I don’t know how to stop replaying what happened to me last night. I can’t let it and its fear go. I mean, I can’t believe those boys changed to animals.”

“I see,” Anna said, “maybe because you aren’t used to it.” She slaps my shoulder, a friendly slap. “Let it go. I was like you back then. You don’t need to be thinking about it that much, everything will be alright.” She sighed. “I need to make the breakfast.” She turned, about to go to the kitchen.

    “I will go with you.”

“No,” Anna said, “keep your eyes on Leslie. He’s our last hope. If he wakes before I came here, he must use those drugs in your sight. Okay?”

I nodded and watched Anna close the door behind her after she stepped out. And here, I felt the deep silence of the room and then look at Leslie on my bed.

“I’m sorry about everything,” Leslie’s voice came in. “I don’t intend to irritate you. It’s just because I can’t help but call you my darling.”

“You are at it again,” I sent my thought to him, “see, can you just get your ass off my bed now?” I frowned at his closed eyes. He looked handsome, though.

He chuckled in my mind. Oh gosh, he heard I called him handsome boy. I speak into his fool mind again, “you are an ugly monster, get the hell fucking face up now.”

“Really,” his voice broke my anger, “should I get up? I will get up if you would help me clean the blood on my forehead.”

“Huh? I will do it so that you would get off my bed and from my room. Forever.” I picked Anna’s handkerchief on the stool and walked close to him, bending over his head, searching for the blood.

And when I was about to clean the tiny blood on his smooth forehead, he opened his eyes, and pulled my head near his, and then kissed my lips.
