Chapter 10: Hello, Mother

In ideal circumstances, Alden would have left on time to show the boys the pack lands. But the word ideal and Alden don’t play well together, so here I am, fifteen minutes later, cursing the asshole who has zero concepts of time. It’s not surprising that he is self-absorbed and can’t be bothered to do things with a time constraint. That would mean admitting that the world doesn’t spin around him like he is earth’s axis.
The sun is closing in on its highest point of the day and where I am usually one for hiding in the shadows, today I am flat against the top of the wall. Which sucks for me because sweat mingles with the cotton of my shirt and I have no doubt that it looks like I was just involved in a wet t-shirt contest. I was overly excited about the mission, for obvious reasons, so I have been in place for close to an hour now. My patience is now near nonexistence.

Avi grasps my wrist as I’m falling, stopping my descent and the guard's assault. My heel makes contact with the person below me, crunching into what I assume is his nose as I propel myself up using the guard’s face as a step. ~Wren~ The remaining disappointed rebels filter out of our makeshift headquarters. We have been waiting for the fallout all day, just hoping to hear the news that war has been declared. But nothing happened. Every pack member goes about their normal day. Milling about and laughing like life here isn’t as terrible for them as it is for the rest of us. “Why do you think they even wanted the treaty?” Avi asks once. It’s just us. He takes his sunglasses off and saunters over to me, opting to pluck the treaty from my hands and look over the contents. I shrug. “You’re the educated one of the two of us. I could barely make out half the stupid words.” I mumble angrily. Avi groans in annoyance. “Wren, for the last fucking time, you aren’t stupid because you aren’t an excellent reader.
