FOUR DAYS BEFORE THE COMBAT
CYNTHIA VELVELA
Cynthia rushed through the forest, almost tripping over an overexposed root. She blinked out the tears that were about to fall as she stumbled on another tree root, falling face flat. She let out a wail as the tornado moved towards her with incredible speed.
"Logan…" she whispered, but Logan wasn't there to save her today. She knew her end was near, and all she could do about it was to give up. She had never seen something like that in her life. She sniffed and sucked in one last breath before she closed her eyes, succumbing to the surge of wind that was blowing against her, sucking her into the tornado-like a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner.
Cynthia paused as she heard the far-off rumble of the tornado die down. Then another rumble came, but this time it was from the sky. A storm was fast approaching, which was the normal weather here in the Lichen Pack. But tornadoes weren't. And it bothered her. It was obviously a witch's conspiracy.
She gripped her emerald green pendant tightly, ready to get up to get back to the Pack. But after she straightened up, Cynthia sighted a shadow that was two shades darker than the surroundings. Her heart pace increased as she whispered "Who is there?" but nothing replied to her.
"Cynthia." She heard a voice behind her and she swiftly turned her body to face it, almost stumbling to the ground. It was Kevin, and he was together with a woman. A witch. Kevin was with a witch. "What are you doing in the forest alone?" He asked softly.
"Kevin. What the hell are you doing with a witch?" She whimpered, taking a step back from them.
"Calm down Cynthia, I am not here to harm you." He replied. He put his hand through his hair as he turned to face the witch who was standing adjacent to him with a black cat straddling her neck.
“You made that tornado right? To hurt me? I’m going to tell your brother this and you're going to regret it, Kevin.” She threatened.
Kevin gave the witch a knowing look and she closed her eyes, then she started to recite some foreign incantations. Petrified, Cynthia tried to run back in the direction of the Pack but she was stopped by an invisible force. The witch trapped her.
“Please let me go, Kelvin,” she begged. On a normal day, Cynthia would be the feistiest of the female werewolves, which was one of the reasons she was the mate of the most powerful and strongest pub there was in the whole three packs. “Your brother will kill you if you do anything to him.” She said, backing up to the nearest tree.
“My brother will do nothing to me, Cynthia.” He said, his eyes turning a shade darker than it already was. Even from their lengthy proximity, Cynthia almost sensed the dripping detest Kevin had for his brother. And it surprised her.
She had never seen half-siblings that were as close as Kevin and Logan are. It was incredulous that Kevin suddenly had a personal grudge against him, which was making him go as far as trapping his mate in a forest with a witch.
It wouldn’t be news that Alpha Morris had banned any sort of interaction with the black cat witches, but Kevin went ahead to invite one of them to the vicinity of their Pack.
“What do you want from me?”
“I want to propose a deal to you, Cynthia. And after that, you would kiss the hex planted on your family goodbye.”
“You think I’m a fool, Kevin? A hex cannot be undone, especially the one done by these obnoxious witches.” Cynthia blurted with loathing for the black cat coven dripping with every word she spat out.
He smirked, burying his hands in his pants. And when he brought it out, it was accompanied by two minuscule silver mirrors. he hesitantly- yet curiously collected it.
“What is this?” She asked, clutching the mirrors in her fists.
Kevin gave the witch another knowing look and she recited an incantation that broke the trapping spell.
“I care about you Cynthia, I really do. I want you to go home and try this on one of your family members. But it only works for a person. If it works, you’ll have to pledge your loyalty to me. You would leave your mate.” He said.
Cynthia’s lips parted to speak but she could barely utter anything. She didn’t know what to feel about this. Betraying Logan was not an option, but if it was for her family, she would do it without thinking twice; especially after seeing them suffer for all these years. It was painful seeing your parents and siblings locked with a chain, and slowly turning into monsters.
Her father bit off his tongue and her mother had her mouth bleeding every day because she was always trying to consume her inner mouth. They had become a sight to be pitied and the only thing Cynthia could do was watch. She couldn’t even recognize who her family was anymore. She would have given up on them- like the rest of the people that had hexed family members- but she refused.
“What do I do with the mirrors?” She asked him almost silently.
The black cat witch stepped forward and passed her two neck chains.
“You will pierce the mirrors by their frame and hang it on a person. Then sprinkle this,” she passed her a powder from a little clay pot. “All you have to do is wait and watch as the hex disappears. How many years has it been since it was implanted on them?”
She swallowed bitterly, “12 years.”
“The hex takes 20 years to absorb into the body stream. Your family would be okay.” The witch gave her an assuring smile, and all Cynthia wanted at that moment was to brutally decapitate the witch.
But she didn’t. She had more pressing matters to worry about. She placed the stuff she was given to and bolted as fast as she could toward their family house- where they were kept.
She was going to do this and hopefully, this would be the end of their suffering.
FOUR DAYS BEFORE THE COMBATCynthia felt her guts tighten as she came face to face with the door of her family house. She heaved loudly and steadied her breath. She had run a long distance from the forest to her former home which was on the outskirts of the Pack because everyone was scared of what her family would do if they got unleashed. It was a little riverside home that her father inherited from his mother back when they had to run to safety in hard times when fights were taking place around the Pack. When her body wasn't palpitating from adrenaline anymore, she placed her hand on the doorknob and opened the house. It was quiet, but they were all present, and alive. She felt her eyes water up as they all looked up at her with hungry and angry eyes. Her once affectionate mother growled angrily at her. Cy
Celia watched as her master, Logan kept wincing and writhing in pain. He has been like that for the past few days. She had kept him in her house. Due to the amount of wolfbane he had taken in, it made it hard for his outer wounds to heal as fast as a werewolf’s wound normally does. Her master has now been declared wanted by Alpha Morris, his father. Losing the combat was not something everyone expected. Logan is known for his power to destroy a herd of hefty werewolves, and just like that, he lost the most important combat of his life. The Lichen pack has turned into a mockery which was a disgrace to Alpha Morris, as a leader and also a father. He was deeply disappointed and angry with him. But when his other son, Kevin stepped into the ring and defeated the rest of the werewolves, Alpha Morris knew that he h
“Why are you treating a traitor with sympathy?” The Alpha voice thundered, his voice reverberating through the walls of the house. Logan lifted his eyes to meet that of his angry father. He lost his voice as he watched his father approach them. He had never seen his father that angry before and he doesn’t like the fact that he is the reason for his father’s anger. The Alpha flung him away from the embrace of his mother, making him hit his head in the process. The wound bled with full force, wetting the entire band that held it in place. He writhed in pain. “You see the coward you call a son. Can you see how he winced and writhed in pain like a lady?” His father queried while the Luna sobbed more into her hands. “If I had known that you were going to tu
The week lasted him forever. The nightfall weather in the Lichen pack was extremely beautiful in the late hour. The light waves of breeze prickled Logan’s skin as he walked down back to the log cabin. He was used to living in a small house with only Celia as his companion. She would come to him in the morning and help him with his needs. The fire was dying in the fireplace and the glowing embers barely lit up the small room. The wind howled; the snowstorm was raging outside the small building, Logan couldn't help but to admit how much he hated it.The room warmer wasn't even helping him to get warm. "Maybe having a bigger one might help better." He thought, pulling the blanket more.He sipped the cup of coffee he had made, he is getting so cozy in the house and now
“Celia,” Logan said softly from a distance. He found her crouching down on a pent-up pile of dead leaves. The sun shone brightly as it was just a bit past noon, but the forest remained dark. It was always dark. Someone said it was the fact that the witches lived in there and planted some spell that protected them from the harsh weather, and others believed it was their God that protected it. Whoever God is.“Master.” She exclaimed, getting up from her position. She straightened her posture and put the ax she brought over her shoulder.“You should go back home, Celia. I’ll be alright, I promise.” He said, but she didn’t budge.“I told you it was my duty to serve you, Sir. You are the only master I would e
Cynthia felt a deep empty hole in the pit of her stomach. She felt restless every night and morning when she would wake up without her former mate on the side of the bed, cuddling her and giving her hard deep thrusts until she couldn’t feel her guts anymore. Logan did things to her nobody could ever do, and she missed him. She loved him. He gave her joy. But seeing her family get better by the passing day, gave her even more joy. When she undid the hex on her father and brothers; as Kevin had promised, she felt the absolute peak of happiness someone could possibly ever reach. She had never felt more content and ecstatic and emotional about anything like this. She hugged them so tight that they had to beg to be peeled away from her. “Dad, Kendrick, Scott.” She looked at them with uncontrollable tears pouring o
“Why the hell did you hex my family?” Cynthia thundered as she kicked down the already loose wooden door of Logan’s log cabin, making him and Celia jolt up from their positions. Celia was cleaning up his wounds for the last time since it was healing perfectly and there was no sign of infection. He had adjusted to eating their low-quality foods and their water that wasn’t as clean as the one he used to take back in the Palace. He was slowly adapting to being an Omega- not just by name but by nature and physique. “What the hell is wrong with you Cynthia?” He yelled back as he grabbed the half-tied bandage away from Celia and motioned for her to excuse them. She muttered a silent okay before she did as she was told. “What do you mean by what the hell is
12 Years Ago (Flash back) The last bonfires in the month of December were the best and most memorable events held in the Lichen Pack. It included a lot of roasted pork and wine. The vampires too were being fed openly with the blood of perfidious and disloyal members of the Pack, or the criminals that were found were charged with treachery. Tonight was one of the best ones yet. There were few humans coming from the city of Chicago to celebrate with Alpha Morris for the victory of dominating the three neighboring Packs, and now, he was their king too. It was his dream to do so. But they made it hard for him, which turned out now to be a mammoth problem on their side. It was impossible to lose when you have the vampires and witches backing you up. He gave th
