Chapter 6

Somehow, even with my head pounding and my scattered thoughts, I managed to take myself back to Dominic's pack. I paused in front of the pack house and quickly cooked up a story about my travels last night, because I knew they were sure to ask. Especially Ray.

I sighed and walked to the door of the house, but before I pushed my way in, I stared at my reflection in the glass window and ran a hand through my tousled blond hair to smoothen and arrange it slightly. With that done, I moved into the house and was met with the smiling faces of my friends as they focused on the chess game on the kitchen table. They turned to me instantly and Ray got up, concern written all over his face as he looked me over once and asked,

"Where have you been Donald? We were worried." The others nodded their heads at his statement, as they put all their eyes on me and I swallowed nervously.

"Umm...well I left the club and met with a few friends of mine," I answered, fighting the urge to smack my head at the obvious lie. Ray knew I had no other friends besides them, and he voiced it out.

"You don't have any other friends besides us, Donald. If you left with a gi–"

"You don't know them," I interrupted him and started to move past them to the guest room, pretending not to hear his last comment about leaving with a girl. If only he knew. I felt their curious stares on my retreating back, but I ignored it and tried to look calm till I entered the room.

The first thing I did was to quickly undress and enter into the shower, avoiding looking at myself in the mirror as I furiously rubbed my body under the cold water. I silently screamed into the empty room, furious with the moon goddess. After searching for my mate for more than five years, I had finally met her and of all the people in the world, it had to be Julie.

The most wanted rogue in all the packs.

I would have preferred being mated to a human, and to think we had...I scrunched my face up, and scrubbed my body again, trying to forget about the way her fingers tickled along my spine, or how her brown hair fell on my chest multiple times during our act. I couldn't deny the fact that she was exquisite, and knew how to quench the fire in my loins, but what we had done was shameful. A taboo act.

In the whole of our world, not once had an Alpha and a rogue been mates, and I briefly wondered if the moon goddess was simply trying to toy with my emotions. I shook my head and focused on washing off the grime, and the scent of her from my body unaware of my beta and best friend, Ray, lurking around in my room.

When I got out of the shower, I looked at my face in the mirror and wondered if anyone would be able to see the shame I felt inside. I felt disappointed in myself for literally sleeping with the worst enemy I ever had, and this act could put my whole pack in danger. I wanted to lunch myself for letting for thoughts get too clouded by alcohol, and I made a resolve, right there and then, to get rid of all the alcohol in my study. Maybe, except the limited edition ones.

I shook my head and walked out of the room, putting on a fresh set of clothes as I packed the other ones into a box. I vaguely recalled hanging my shirt on the headboard when I removed it, but it was now lying on the opposite side of the bed. I shrugged and packed it as well, before moving down to meet the other guys with my box beside me.

We all discussed for a while before Dominic and his beta saw Ray and I out of the house, with them promising to visit our pack and hang out again for drinks. Dominic's beta made a small joke about me not disappearing on them again, and I instantly tensed up, noticing the look my beta gave me. In response, I just laughed and played it cool till we entered the car.

I heaved a small sigh of relief and sat in silence, my thoughts scattered around as the car drove on. Soon, we got to our pack, Valleyfield, and I immediately made a few calls as we neared the house. It was time to forget about what happened in Dominic's pack and face the business of running mine. When we arrived at the pack house, I went up to my study and locked myself in as I tried to concentrate on work.

However, my thoughts kept on going back to Julie and our situation. Maybe rejecting her instantly wasn't the best idea. My thoughts were interrupted by a specific knock on the door, and I called out for the person to come in.

Ray walked in with a blank expression on his face and sat down on the chair opposite mine as he leaned forward and clasped his hands together in front of him. "What's really up with you Donald?"

"What do you mean?" I leaned back on my chair and folded my arms, with an eyebrow raised.

"No offense, but I know you too well. You weren't honest with going off to see some friends. What really happened?"

"Offense taken, Ray," I pointed out and shifted my eyes from his gaze, as I fought the urge to roll my eyes. "Are you suggesting that I'm lying? Remember that I'm your Alpha."

Ray looked at me squarely, refusing to be backed down as he continued, "Yes, I know that quite well. But I'm also concerned about you, because you don't seem like yourself."

I looked at him for a moment, but he just stared at me with a knowing look and I thinned my lips. "Did you come into the room when I was having my bath?"

Ray looked away guiltily for a second before he shrugged and leaned back into his chair. "I wanted to talk to you, but I didn't meet you. However, your shirt...you wear it with a woman right?"

I started to deny again, but his pointed look at my face made me sigh instead and I leaned forward. "I met my mate," I uttered quietly and my beta's face froze for a second before he reached out and clapped me on the shoulder.

"That's so cool man. That's good news. Don't tell me that's why you're–"

"And it's Julie Scarborough," I interrupted him again for the second time, and watched with nervousness as his face twisted into one of shock, before settling on annoyance.
