Chapter 3: The High School Guide

Jo

I placed my bag in my matte-red vehicle after examining it once more. Hopefully, nothing was missing.

With black high-waist pants and black high heel boots, I wore a flowy, white spaghetti-strap tank top. My hair was in a high ponytail, and I wore a black leather jacket, ring earrings, and a black watch.

Once I got in my car, I drove to Ann's house to pick her and Jacob up.

My heart felt light as my body relaxed. I loved driving.

Perfectly at half past seven, I was at Ann’s house. I took punctuality seriously.

Jacob and Ann were already standing outside.

After I had taught Jacob the great lesson the other day, Jacob will never dare be late again.

While letting her dark, curly hair fall, she clasped the black leather jacket over her shoulders.

On the other hand, Jake wore blue jeans and a white polo t-shirt tucked in neatly. The shirt accentuated his muscular build. White sneakers and a messy hairstyle finished off his outfit.

Both of them sat in the car and greeted me. Since Ann had called shotgun, Jake was seated at the back, groaning at his luck.

We began our ride to school by grooving to "All The Stars" by Kendrick Lamar and SZA.

The song is a fucking masterpiece if you ask me.

The giant black antique gates of Clairvoyant Academy were soon in sight, and we parked in our usual spot. My hand reached out to open the door. I get out of the car and take my bag from Jake before heading toward the school.

As we entered the school, Jake headed towards the college wing while Ann and I headed to our lockers.

Ann and I kept our books and attended our respective classes.

On my way to class, I decided to go through my phone and reply to all the unread messages.

Knowing my classes exceedingly well, I let my muscle memory take over as I took various turns to reach my class.

Suddenly, I hit my shoulder on the corner of the wall making my body jerk, and my phone slipped.

My reflexes quickly kick in as my hand dives to catch my phone before it hits the ground.

My fingers clutch the phone tightly, afraid it will slip out again.

Turning around to look at whomever I crashed into was responsible for my phone's near death, I gave them an icy stare.

I found Liam and Aiden on the receiving end of my glare.

*****

Aiden Thomas King

Son of Alpha King Alaric and Luna Queen Isabella King. He is the future Alpha King.

His age is seventeen. His sharp jawline, untidy brown hair, and golden greenish-brown eyes with unusual golden flecks swirling about in them all contributed to the impression of a lean, robust frame. His medium tan increased his attractiveness, and his stunning golden hazel eyes nicely suited his shaggy brown hair.

All the females adore him, and all the boys aspire to be like him.

I would be lying if I claimed Aiden wasn't a gorgeous young man.

He is his parent's pride and joy as their only son.

His closest friend is Liam Anderson. They have been together their entire lives. They throw all different pranks together and love to make others' lives difficult.

Liam James Anderson

Liam is the son of Beta Blake Anderson, head of all Betas, and Beta Female Amelia Anderson.

A quiff of dirty blonde hair and a chiselled jawline paired perfectly with his icy blue eyes and dimples. He has a similar medium tan build with a slim, muscular physique like Aiden.

Liam has two siblings. An elder sister named Elena is the same age as Luke and Daniel, and a younger brother named Ashton. He is ten.

Aside from being very sarcastic and charming, he is a lovable goofball. He is a total pain in the ass when he pairs up with his dimwit buddy.

*****

Ann and I have known Liam and Aiden since childhood, as their fathers are best friends with my father and Ann's.

Trust me when I say don't be fooled by their good looks.

Cunning, pure evil devils lurk behind their good looks.

They're both A-grade jerks.

Ann and I don't like them.

Mainly, I don’t like Aiden.

He is a hindrance to my perfect life. He always messes up my schedule, competes with me in everything, and, most importantly, makes me feel things I have never felt.

As children, Aiden and Liam made it their sole purpose to make our lives miserable by irritating us to the brink of death. Their methods are intolerable and aggravating.

Why? Because they are bastards who have nothing better to do.

“Damn, girl! You need to start being aware of your surroundings,” Liam remarked.

“Didn’t know you were that clumsy, Vanderbilt,” chuckled Aiden.

My eyes twitched at his comment. I was anything but clumsy!

As I was about to strike back, a girl I disliked most interrupted us.

She pushed past me, barely even moving me out of the way, before throwing her arms around Aiden and nuzzling herself into him.

Liam and I frowned at the site. I guess he didn’t like her either.

*****

Lyla Jones

She is the daughter of regular but wealthy werewolves. As their only child, she's spoiled rotten by her parents and their wealth.

She's the queen bee of the school. Cliche mean girl who thinks she is better than everyone and the whole world revolves around her.

Though I hate to burst her bubble-Not really- nothing revolves around her.

With bleached blonde hair and bangs, she has emerald eyes and an hourglass figure. She lacks sporting aptitude but exudes an attitude like she is a champion.

She gives the classic mean-girl vibes.

She is a vicious narcissist and a two-faced backstabber. She is arrogant and egotistical. To get her way, she will use all means necessary, even if they hurt others.

Two others follow her blindly, just like sheep.

Brittany and Chloe.

Lyla and I have had a lousy relationship since Ann was one of her victims.

She is like a thorn stuck in my leg, refusing to come out.

Lyla tries to make everyone miserable.

Then again, what story would be complete without a mean girl?

*****

Lyla's expression changed as soon as she fixed her eyes on me, and then she smiled at me, contrived.

Lyla is also Aiden’s girlfriend.

I'm sorry. Did I forget to mention that earlier? My bad.

Lyla has always had a crazy obsession with Aiden. In the end, Aiden gave in and agreed to be her boyfriend. It's been six months since they've been together, though their relationship irks me.

I am surprised that Aiden lasted this long.

For Liam, being single allows him to hang out with any girl. That’s what he claims.

A part of me grieves for the poor girls who will become their mates.

I was too caught up in my thoughts to notice someone coming up behind me.

I immediately tensed up as I felt two sturdy arms encircle me from behind.

However, I soon relaxed when I recognised the scent of the person.

“Hey babe,” the person said.

Let me introduce you to Brent Wilson, my boyfriend. We have been dating for eight months now. He is the son of the Blue Moon pack's alpha, but he is not the only child; he also has older brothers.

Brent is a wonderful person. I would be delighted to be his mate. Both of us enjoy each other's company. Furthermore, my family approves of him, as does his.

Brent and I have a platonic relationship until we are sure we are mates.

I hope that one day Brent and I start a family together, even though my mind trails off to someone else, which makes me feel super guilty.

A chuckle escaped my lips as I kissed Brent on the cheek.

“Hey, Brent. How nice of you to join us! We were having a little chat,” Lyla smiles.

I scrunched up my face at her statement. What ‘little chat’? We barely even looked at each other.

Brent says, "Well, I'm right on schedule."

Lyla laughed.

Before I could call out her lie, the bell rang deafeningly, indicating that we had five minutes before class started.

“It was nice meeting all of you. I think Josie and I should head over to class,” Brent said.

Before heading off to class, I glanced up at Aiden one last time. Surprisingly, he was also gazing at me but with an indecipherable expression.

We continued to look at each other until I finally tore my eyes away and turned to go to class.

Oh, Aiden King, what are you doing to me?
