Chapter 25: Fraught with Danger

Thunder erupted from the sky as the black clouds grumbled angrily.

Shivers rushed up my skin all the way to my spine. I quickly pulled into the parking spot and raced through the double glass door. I swiftly put my key card in the slot at the door for the security check.

"Hey, Josette, how are you doing?" Mr Larry, the receptionist, greeted me cheerfully.

Mr Larry was about sixty years old. As far as I know, he has worked here for thirty years. He is a friendly, warm-hearted mortal.

I made an effort to smile, but all I wanted was to be at home, safe and secure.

I said with a shaky voice, "I'm good.”

I clutched myself, hoping to get rid of the shivering. Though, my efforts went in vain as the feeling clung to me with a relentless grasp.

“Honey, are you alright?” his eyebrows furrowed with worry, “You’re looking a little pale there.”

"No, I'm great," I stiffened. “You know, it's just the weather.”
