PART II: Chapter 49

Ever since Kira woke up, she had been staring aimlessly at the ceiling, trying to not be affected by what had happened between Damien and her just a few hours ago. She tried everything she could to keep the thoughts out of her head so that she could focus solely on what she should do next.

While Kira had these thoughts on her mind, Damien was fast asleep beside her, snoring softly with his legs out of the duvet and a part of his bare butt hanging out of the duvet that only partly covered his naked body.

Kira's eyes finally moved away from the ceiling after what felt like hours of her staring blankly at the ceiling. As much as she was trying not to get affected by everything that just happened, she was deeply affected.

She disliked the fact that she constantly had to remind herself that Damien had another woman and that everything that just happened between them was simply one sided and that he didn't feel the same way she felt about him. His words rang in her head and it had practically become a ringing reminder that didn't stop haunting her thoughts and making her restless.

She had completely surrendered herself to him and they finally mated. While her head reminded her that she would only get hurt, her heart and body did otherwise and before she knew it, they were down to business and having sex already with her simply forgetting that he would probably never accept her in any way after everything.

Damien moved on the side of the bed and his hand landed on her body, in an attempt to pull her closer to him but she removed his hands from her waist and Damien's eyes immediately fluttered open.

The moment Damien's eyes landed on Kira, a smile formed on his face which didn’t sit well with her as she didn’t understand the reason behind his smile. It wasn't something she was expecting and she wasn't exactly used to him smiling at her so suddenly.

“It’s almost dawn Damien, you have to leave before anyone sees you leaving my room by this time,” Kira said to him hurriedly, not bothering to say anything pleasant or reciprocate his smile or anything like that.

The skin between Damien’s brows creased in confusion. He couldn't exactly understand the reason behind her tone and why she sounded so nonchalant and displeased with him so early in the morning.

“Does it actually matter?” he asked and she immediately scoffed.

She got up from the bed quickly so that she was sitting down and facing him properly. She adjusted the duvet as soon as she moved so she could cover her breasts with it.

“You wouldn't exactly want word going around about us now, would you? You also don't have to worry about anything because as far as I'm concerned, what happened last night stays between us as a thing of the past. I’ve forgotten about it already and I won't bother bringing it up between us. Now that I've assured you of my silence, can you now hurry and leave? My aunt can decide to show up unannounced at any time and I don't want any misunderstandings,” she said to him in a strict tone and with an unfriendly look on her face.

Kira quickly got off from the bed and walked away leaving Damien confused and perplexed.

He couldn’t believe what had just happened and he also could not understand why it even happened. He felt his heart clench for some reason and his stomach suddenly felt unsettled almost as if he was going to a nauseous stage.

Kira was cold and distant and he felt that more than ever. He had never felt this hurt before, not even when Sheila gave him an attitude that affected and bothered.

He swallowed a painful lump in his throat before getting up from the bed. As he wore his clothes, memories of what went down between them from how she pushed him away to kissing him and now, how she was back to pushing him away resurfaced in his head.

He knew Kira felt the same way he felt and he also knew very well that she felt the same exact things that he had felt with her the previous night and he mentally promised himself to get her to open up to him. He knew that it would probably not be the easiest thing to do but getting Kira to finally open up to him and tell him what exactly was going on with her and why she was so aggressive and angry towards him was something he was willing to go to any lengths to understand and get an answer directly from her.

Draco had not missed the tension that practically oozed around Damien and Kira.

Damien had been staring at Kira since he came into the room and Draco could bet everything he had on the fact that Damien was barely listening to what was being said in the meeting room at this moment.

“We have been going back and forth for days now and it’s futile. I have come to a decision that we will be taking a pause for the main time but we won’t be letting our guard down for any reason whatsoever. The reason for this is to simply make the enemies believe briefly that we have let our guards down but we are only doing this in order to get one of them in our trap once again. Before we go against a creature as strong as we are or even stronger, we have to know more about them and to do that, we need to get in contact with people from their side and the only way to get them to talk is by trapping them just like we trapped Gaius” Kira explained.

Damien took in a deep breath. “I agree with you Alpha Kira. So far, there has barely been anymore cases of random death in my pack so it’s safe to say they want us to let our guards down before attacking us so we will just have to play along their game and make them think what we want them to think,” he said, adding more reasons to why he trusted Kira's judgement.

Kira said nothing in return although she actually wanted to say something to him at first. She had been avoiding eye contact with Damien since he came into the room and he could tell that she was because he had been staring at her since he'd walked in and he didn’t even bother hiding the fact that he was staring at her.

“I guess that’s all for today. Since we've come to this conclusion, we'll have to see how it all goes from now on. The only thing I'd advise is that we do not let our guard now no matter what. Be alert in every way and just remember to be as subtle as possible,” Layla summarised calmly and as soon as was done talking, everyone got up from their seats, getting ready to leave.

Kira had immediately left the room as she didn’t want to give Damien the opportunity to speak to her or the opportunity to say anything to her at all.

Draco placed his hands on Damien’s shoulder when he noticed how his friend was staring in Kira's direction with sad eyes.

"Is something wrong Damien?” Draco asked.

“I think things just got worse for me buddy. I really think I'm going to lose out this time,” Damien muttered, following his words with a frustrated sigh.

“Do you actually want to talk about it?” Draco asked and Damien shook his head to indicate that he didn't really want to talk about it.

“Okay then. Should in case you change your mind, you know where to find me,” Draco replied to him, having no intentions of forcing his friend to open up to him just yet.

Just as Draco was about to leave, Damien stopped him.

“I don’t know Draco but Kira is avoiding me and it’s actually really killing me," he said, relieving himself of the words and thoughts that had been bothering him all day long.

“I noticed that Damien and I also did not miss how you kept staring at her throughout our meeting. Now, go ahead and tell me what it is that you did wrong this time?” Draco replied, certain that whatever was happening had to be his friend's fault and no one else's.

Damien walked back to take a seat and Draco did the same. They both sat in silence for a few seconds before Damien broke the silence.

“I realized something about myself lately and I’m honestly scared as fuck by it. It’s still very surprising to me and I hate how nervous and confused it’s making me,” Damien said, confusing Draco with his words.

“Do you mind speaking clearly so I know where exactly it is that you are heading to?” Draco quickly told him and Damien simply nodded his head.

“I just found out that I actually have strong feelings for Kira and it’s terrifying because I have never felt this drawn to anyone before but it feels so unreal and insane. Another thing that's also making me nervous and confused is Sheila. I know how long we've been together and I know how much she's sacrificed just to be with me so I can't just do things that I know would hurt her deeply,” Damien confessed.

Draco was only a little bit surprised by Damien’s words since he had already noticed the connection and insane chemistry between Damien and Kira before and was expecting something like this to eventually happen.

“Are you simply attracted to Kira or do you really like Kira, which is it?” Draco asked.

“It’s both Draco and it's even deeper than I can explain,” Damien responded with a sigh.

“Wow!” Draco muttered.

“Mind explaining this to me? You are attracted to Kira and not just that, you like her romantically so what are your feelings for Sheila? What do you feel for Sheila?” Draco asked.

“To be honest, I do not know. I really thought Sheila was it for me. I felt so much emotions for Sheila but now it’s not the same. Those feelings became absolutely nothing the moment I realized what I felt for Kira and what’s more terrifying is that I can’t even look at Sheila without thinking of Kira and it’s killing me Draco. It’s killing me because I am hurting the one woman who has been there for me for a very long time and that I had promised to always love and protect. I don't know what to do and then Kira won’t even speak to me or look at me and it’s literally driving me nuts. Yesterday was…,” he stopped himself midway when he realized he was about to tell Draco what happened between Kira and him.

Last night was epic and crazy and by far, the best night ever for him. He and Kira having sex felt so different and special compared to when he had sex with Sheila.

It wasn’t just them alone but their wolves mated too and it was one of the most magical feelings he had ever felt.

He looked forward to creating something beautiful with Kira but then, she had made him leave the room so quickly and so coldly and that moment he felt his heart break more than ever before.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Draco's voice snapped Damien off of his reverie.

“I don’t know what to do, Draco. I…,” Draco cuts Damien off.

“I asked you a question, didn't I? If you have feelings for Kira and when I say feelings, I mean feelings of how a man would look at a woman, what is it you feel for Sheila? Is it pity or the only feeling you have for her is that of a man who has promised to protect a woman which is nothing but a feeling of responsibility?” Draco asked, staring back at Damien, who simply sighed in frustration as she didn't know what to say to his friend.
