Chapter 25: Isabella Hayes

"Does it hurt?"

I smiled reassuringly in response. Apparently, while I was unconscious, Dylan managed to get away and take out the bullet stuck in my wound. And for the past five minutes, he has been switching out my bandages. He kept asking me if I was okay even though we both knew that he was in worse shape than I was.

"I'm fine," I said, eyeing the specks of dried blood in his nails that he wasn't able to wash off. "I know it's a bit too late, but thank you for saving me back there."

His hands stopped for a moment. Then, he looked at me with a small smile. "That was nothing. I'd do more for you, Isabella."

My cheeks immediately warmed up. I didn't wanna admit that his way with words made me react like that so I looked away to hide them. But it wasn't like he was going to notice them anyway since, in the run-down abandoned cottage that we found in the middle of the forest, we had no source of light except the moonlight streaming through the trees.
