CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

~KAHLAN AND SANDINO~

Silence. That was all I was getting from Sandino. When I took him away from the victory party and suggested a walk I thought he would be an open book. I was wrong. He kept his hands hidden in his pants pockets, his lanky body swayed slightly from side to side with every step, and his brown eyes stared out in front of us. There was nothing out there but calm waves, a dark sky and sand that was still warm from the heat of the day. It was clear that I was going to have to be the one to start the conversation. "So, what’s going on with you?" I asked. 

"Not much," he responded, not making the effort to look at me. "What about you?" 

"Nothing," I answered with the shake of my head. There was more silence. "How are Brooke and the baby?" Sandino glanced over at me with a smile.
