I stood in front of Hardy, breathing heavily. I knew I looked like a freak with my wild hair all over the place and my terrified, anxious gaze.

“Why should I believe you?” I asked. My voice was not shivering but my mind was in a turmoil and the memories of that dream which had felt so, so real a few minutes ago were haunting me. I could still hear their voices. I could still feel the touch of their breaths on my skin as mom had sobbed so miserably with sad eyes and dad had refused to even spare me another glance with his lips pursed in repulsion toward me.

Hardy looked surprised at my question. It took a moment for him to fathom what I was talking about as he straightened, and asked with a sceptical stare, “So you agree to my proposal?”

My face had long lost all the colour. I knew my face was white as a sheet when I reminded him coldly, “You are a nobody. Why are you so sure that this is going to work?”

“Because I am not alone.” he immediately spoke up with pride. His face tilted up an
