A New Beginning

"Just one more step," Cara breathed heavily as she finally got to the front of a gigantic black gate. "Someone is out there!" She yelled as she hit the gate. "Someone is here!" She yelled again.

"Who is there?" A hoarse voice replied to her. "State your business!" He demanded.

"I'm Cara Williams. I was sent into the capital by the guards." She stated. The gigantic black gate opened and two guards walked out of the gate. Cara recognized the first guard as the man who ordered her to go to the capital city. she had no idea who the second guard was.

"Seems you made it back but you are five minutes late." The first guard Simon pointed out. " you disobeyed me, you didn't come at the right time!" He yelled at her. "Because you disobeyed me," the guard pointed a finger at her. "You will sleep outside on the grass and no dinner for you." The guard suddenly burst into laughter.

"Where is my father?" Cara questioned ignoring the guard's last word. Her face was all bloodied from the car accident she had in the capital. She had barely made it and the guard didn't see her head and the dry blood because all he thought about was Cara's lateness.

The guard burst into laughter and slapped her across the face. He grabbed a handful of her hair and pushed her to the ground. "Acting all tough makes you nothing little girl! You are nothing! Go, take her to where she'll sleep tonight."Samuel ordered the second guard.

"Yes boss," the second guard grabbed Cara from the ground and pushed her inside. The building was built like a prison cell. Everyone was caged inside a room locked with only a password the guards had access to. Cara shook her head in grief when she saw the state of her people. They took them from their homes only to bring them to suffer as the king's slaves. Cara knew she couldn't do anything but she was willing to try and make sure her people are freed.

"This is where you'll sleep slave," the guard pointed to the grassland and quickly left Cara alone before she could ask any questions. Cara lay on the grass and stared at the sky. The sun had set but the moon was nowhere to be found yet. Cara didn't care about the pain from her legs and her face was still bloodied. The driver who had hit her didn't care because she was nothing. Because she was a Rankless wolf. Cara knew that her wounds would never matter in the future as long as she was a wolf with no rank.

All Cara thought about was what would happen to everyone she cared about.

"Mum, " she sobbed. "I hope you can hear me. I need you to help me please," she paused for a while and then continued. "This is too much for me to bear. I need you to be with me while I struggle to help dad and everyone who needed help." She closed her eyes as she prayed to her mother.

That night, Cara had a dream about her mother who told her everything was going to be fine. She never knew that it was all going to get worse.

         ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The brightness of the sun and the wet grass woke cara from her slumber. She fluttered her eyes open and lazily stood up from the grass. Cara groaned out in pain and held her head. "My head," she whimpered. It's pounded as if it was getting hit by a hammer. Cara used two of her fingers to find the cut from her head and when she did, she found out that she had a large gash on the left side of her head.
Even her foot got hurt while she walked back and font for hours. Her foot had different cut marks and the reddish liquid that had stopped pooling out formed a lump in both of her feet. Cara looked around the grassland while searching for something in particular. When she found what she was searching for, she smiled. "Found it," she said and grabbed a lanceolate-shaped leaf. She squeezed the leaf and rub it thoroughly on her foot. She repeated it until her the lumps disappeared. She applied for the same leave on her head and stopped only when the blood had dried off. The leaf was used in their community as a means of treating their wounds. They called it kaka(healing leave) because it's done wonders to their wounds even though it doesn't heal them completely.
After making sure that her head and foot were perfectly fine, Cara stood up and walked out of the grassland. She found herself on the left side of the building where some of her community were already outside listening to some guards who were addressing them.
"Pssst," someone whispered behind her and she jumped In fright.
"Tyler!" Cara hugged her brother tightly.
"I saw you entering yesterday but I was unable to call you. They have eyes everywhere, "Tyler pointed around.
" where is our father?"
"I have no idea. The last I saw him was when they were taking him away."
"Where?" Cara demanded.
"I have no idea. Cara," Tyler grabbed her hand. "You need to obey them to avoid getting on their wrath."
"I will Tyler. " she hugged her brother again.
"Everyone!" A voice sounded through a megaphone. "Report to the grassland right now!"
"We need to go. They need everyone at the grassland." Tyler pulled his sister's hand and they both walked to the grassland where everyone had already gathered. Cara looked around for her father but she couldn't find him.
"Listen up everyone!" Simone, the head guard shouted. "You are all going to the Capital today." He announced and murmuring started amongst the people. "Silence!" He shut them up.
"Listen up everyone, you disobey my orders you die. I might be cruel but the guards at the palace are much more worst so you wouldn't want to get on their nerves." He smirked while looking at Cara. "Listen to your names and the jobs are given to you! He began to call names according to the list in his hands and the categories they all fall into. When Cara didn't hear her Father's name, she summoned up the courage to ask Simon about her father.
" Sir, "Cara raised her hand to question Simon about her father and all eyes turned to her. Some were of pity and some were filled with encouragement.
"what are you doing Cara? Do you want to get killed?" Tyle muttered.
"What do you want little girl?"
Simone grinned as he asked the question.
"Where is my father?" Cara questioned.
Simon stared at her for a while before beckoning to one of the guards. The guard left the grassland and two minutes later, he returned with Cara's father in his arms. Her father had lost all color on his face and he was shivering.
"Father!" Cara called and quickly rushed to where they laid him. "Are you alright father?" She asked.
"Cara," her father managed to say. "You are back." He smiled and placed a hand on hers. "You remind me of your mother. You look just like her." He smiled again.
"What did they do to you?" Cara questioned as her father shivered in her arms. "What did they do?" She burst into tears.
"That's enough!" Simon pulled her away from her father.
Cara kicked, scratched, and yelled as she was dragged away from her father. "Please I need to make sure he is fine!" She begged but her request was turned down as Simon landed a slap on her face. "You've been disrespectful ever since you got here. Yesterday's punishment didn't teach you a lesson!" He grabbed her by the collar of her shirt and threw her across the grassland. Cara landed a few steps away from Simon.
"Your truck will soon be here," he announced to everyone. "Take your time to bond because you all will never get to see each other again." He stated and walked out of the grassland with his fellow guards.
"Cara!" Tyler rushed to where her sister landed to. "Cara!" He gasped when he saw a huge gash on her forehead and couldn't help the tears that dropped from his face when he saw the blood pooling from the gash. "Are you alright Cara?"
"Father," Cara croaked. "Where is our  father?" She asked.
Tyler looked toward his father that was surrounded by the community. He looked back at his sister and held her tightly. "Father is fine. We need to stop the bleeding Cara. I told you not to question them. You never listen!" He scolded her sister. "Anita," he called a  black teenage girl who belonged to the life Community. "I need water and a piece of cloth. I need to stop her bleeding."
"Right away," Anita responded and rushed to get water from the borehole and she tears a piece of her clothing.
"Here it is, " she handed him a bowl of water and tear a piece of clothing. "Couldn't find any clothing anywhere." She informed him.
"Thank you, Anita." Tyler appreciated. He dipped the piece of clothing inside the water and placed it on the gash on Cara's head. Cara moaned painfully as her brother gently wiped off the blood from her head. He looked around for the Lanceolate leaf his sister used on her foot and when he found it, he applied it to her head and carefully massaged the head.
"Need any help?" Anita asked him but he shook his head.
"It's all done." He replied and looked into the face of his sister.
"do you think it will end one day?" Anita questioned sadly.
"I don't even know our fate anymore," Tyler answered back. He didn't believe that it will end one day. The Andersons were cruel rulers and no one could question them. Everyone who had tried to overcome them end up in a bad place. "I need to check on my father. Help me with Cara." He requested and Anita gladly accepted. She took Cara into her arms and watched as Tyler went to check on his father.
"How is he?" Tyler asked Pa Bala and some other elders that had gathered around his father.
"His condition is bad. He is suffering from hypothermia since he has no wolf and due to his previous illness, he won't make it tonight." Pa Bala informed Tyler.
Tyler took a deep breath before letting it all out. He looked at his father whose face was already turning white and the continuous shaking of his body. "Father," he grabbed his shaking hand and placed it on his cheek. "Why is this happening to us father?" He sobbed.
"Tyler," his father managed to say. "Prot..ct your sister. She has a heart for thinking about others before herself. I'm sorry for not staying with you for a long time. I love you son. Tell your sister I love her too."
"What are you saying, father? You are going to be fine. Please don't leave us as mum did."Tyler begged his father.
 Cara crawled out Of Anita's arms and rushed to hug her father. "Father!" She cried out.
Her father smiled and held her hand tightly. "I love you and your brother very much." Their father smiled at his daughter and closed his eyes as he took his last breath.
"Dad," Cara called when he couldn't feel her father's breathing anymore. Her father's hand had become cold and his eyes were shut in death. "Father!" She shouted and shook her father vigorously. "Don't do this to us father! Father!" She cried.
Tears rolled down Cara's face and with every tear, she cussed the Royal family in her thoughts. "You will all die by my sword and I won't rest until you do so!" She swore on her Father's death.
"Father," Tyler, her brother cried out in pain. Cara pulled him closer and they both hugged their Father's body.
"That's enough You two!" Pa Bala shouted at them. "Stop crying or you die like your father!"
"They are all going to pay!" Tyler admitted. "I will make sure they all pay."
"If they had treated him well. If they had left us in our community. My father wouldn't have to die!" Cara cried.
"Take heart little girl. It's would be better! " Pa Bala advised her.
When Simon and the rest of the guards heard about the death of Timothy Williams, they ordered for his body to be cremated. Tyler and Cara set their father's body on fire and Soon, the trucks from the palace came and all the life community entered into the truck that was each meant for them.
Unfortunately for Tyler and his sister, their truck wasn't the same but Cara promised to always be by his brother's side until death.
While the truck moved towards the capital, everyone had a wish in their heart and is to be free from the world they were in. Tyler hopes to get revenge on his father's death, Cara wished to kill the king while the rest of the community had different wishes best known to them all but what if their wishes were for nothing.
A new beginning had started for them.
