Jennifer peered at me through her fake eyelashes, sizing me up. I had put on my most expensive suit to impress her, but at the same time, I didn't give two shits about her opinion.

Jennifer meant nothing to me.

"I thought you were not going to come," she finally spoke.

I looked at her with surprise. "Why would you think that?"

"You've been distant from me for a while now. You keep ignoring my phone calls. So finally, I got desperate and called your father. Do you realize how humiliating that is for me, Chase?"

"I was going to call you back, Jen. You didn't have to call him. You just had to be a little more patient," I said irritably. Jennifer was a little too clingy for my taste. I preferred someone like Meghan, who let me have my space.

Of course, now I know it was because she didn't like me in the first place.

"Patient? Don't tell me to have patience, Chase. It's almost as bad as telling me to calm down," Jennifer snapped.
