Chapter 5: Secret Mission

Damien’s POV

It was 4 AM when I returned back to my bedroom. The drinks couldn’t get me high, but I was okay with it. After all, I had to go to work.

I took some rest and woke up at 6 AM, got ready by 6:30, and then reached my office by 7:30. I knew Evie must be coming soon, but I was reluctant to tell her what I wanted.

Well, not wanted.

It was 8:15 when she finally came up to the door and knocked. It was a transparent door, so I nodded and she came in.

“Goodmorning, boss. I, um, will report to you regarding all the meetings in ten minutes. A lot of people—”

I cut her in between. “I need to ask you something.”

She stopped and some worry lines appeared on her forehead.

“Y-yes, boss?”

“If there was a demand, a not… normal demand from me, would you listen?”

She thought for a moment. “I… don’t know. I mean, it depends, right? What the demand is?”

I nodded and sighed. Then, after getting up, I went in front of the table and leaned against it.

“There have been some issues. Some things that are out of my control. So, I,” I was still hesitant, but I continued anyway, “I want to… um, will you,” I sighed. “Can you marry me?”

Her eyes widened. “What?”

“It’s–it’s just something I have to do.”

“No!” She exclaimed with a hint of her thinking of me as a pervert, “What kind of demand is this?”

I sighed. I had to ask her another way.

“I can give you anything you need in return.”

She looked at me and then a ray of hope appeared in her eyes. “Anything?”

“Yes. What do you want?”

“Security.”

“Huh?” It wasn’t what I expected, so my response came out blank.

“I am in trouble. I need you to keep me safe.”

“Safe from who?” I was worried and went a little near her.

She sighed. “It’s uh, it’s— you won’t believe me. Or you’ll just, you know, fire me.”

“Tell me, Evie.”

After sighing, she looked at me. “Do you know Lucifer?”

“Lucifer? As in the Bible Satan?”

“No. I-I mean, yeah he’s satan enough, but not that, of course.”

“Uh-huh.”

“He… I-I crossed him and now he’s looking for me. I know that I won’t be alive for much longer but…”

I nodded. Lucifer. Of course, I knew him. He was the head of a dangerous mafia and even I try to not go against him.

“But-but of course, you’re a businessman. You don’t come in the same category, so maybe you won’t be able—”

“I will protect you,” I said with calm composure.

She looked into my eyes to confirm and I smiled, assuringly.

“Okay.”

“Do we have a deal then?”

“One more thing!” She said. I raised my eyebrow and she continued, “Anything that—that married couples do, we–we won’t, right?”

I smirked. “Depends.”

“What?” She was rather blank than anything,

“It depends on you.”

She nodded slowly and I smirked more. Then I went back to my seat and sat down.

“So tell me now, Evie,” I closed the documents, “How did you end up on Lucifer’s radar?”

Trevor’s POV

“Marcus is meeting with him? Are you sure?” I confirmed with a shock in my voice.

“Yes, sir.”

“Damn it!” I exclaimed. “Keep a safe distance from here on out. I need you to report me on further actions too.”

“Roger that.”

I ended the call and sent the information in a code to all my people. We had to attack on his next meeting, whenever that happens.

For that, we needed intel.

I noticed that there were another few calls from Damien. I don’t know if they were about Marcus or not, but I do think that if I pick it up, he would compel me to forgive him by reminiscing about our friendship.

Even though I cared about him, it wasn’t acceptable. I couldn’t forgive him for killing the love of my life. Not now, not ever.

“Boss, they just decided to meet again tomorrow night!” I heard in one of my earbuds and a smirk appeared on my lips.

“Get a precise location but don’t get caught. Good job.”

“Copy that.”

I went over to my weapon room. As the name explains, it has all the main tools I use. While choosing the ones I would use on Marcus, I didn’t care about how easy it would be — rather, I made sure I took the most painful ones.

The ones that wouldn’t kill him. The ones that’ll only torture him.

God knows that death is the most peaceful thing on Earth.

After getting ready, I decided to have a grand meeting at night. This time, I wouldn’t miss him. Even though I didn’t have Damien or his men, I knew better. I was better.

And he was so going to suffer.

The location was confirmed and I went to the grand meeting at night. However, my people thought it was best to let Damien and everyone know because we could be outnumbered. I didn’t have a choice so I called Damien.

It was picked up at the second ring.

“Trev, I—”

“We need to talk about Marcus. I am sending you the location now.”

I didn’t let him speak and ended the call. It was the only way this could work. And anyway, all I cared about was hunting Marcus down. I sent him the location.

In ten minutes, the sensors detected someone at the door.

I went over to open the door coldly. However, I was shocked when I opened it.

“Who is she?”
