Chapter 14: Feelings Unravelling

Evie

I looked at him.

“I mean,” his voice was suddenly deep. “How long do you think you can control yourself around me?”

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my overwhelming desire to give in.

“F-Forever,” I whispered and looked away. I picked up a lamp kept on a small table to avoid his gaze but he came closer and took the lamp.

“So, you have no problem if I do this.”

“Do what?” I was compelled to look at him.

He smirked and pulled me closer. Before I could react, he kissed me and we fell onto the bed. I kissed him back and he devoured my mouth with his tongue, making my senses go wild.

His kiss was like feathers. Not only soft but so beautiful, so mesmerizing… that I was completely lost.

He parted and looked into my eyes. We both breathed heavily before he kissed the side of my mouth and then kissed the nape of my neck.

“Damien…” I whispered.

His rasped breathing was more evident than mine. He stopped kissing me and joined our foreheads — something that made me feel that his feelings were deeper than just sex.

“Evie.”

“Damien?” I asked.

“Don’t leave me… ever.”

My stomach was filled with butterflies and knots formed. Why was he talking like that?

“I… won’t.”

He kissed my forehead and looked into my eyes again. This time, his eyes weren’t as usual. Though they were even more deep and beautiful, they held some emotions.

Something I never saw before in him.

And then he smiled.

HE SMILED AND IT WAS NOT SARCASTIC!

He got up. “Well, ah-” he coughed, “The wedding is tomorrow. So, you should rest.”

“Tomorrow?” I asked, shocked.

He smirked. “You’re dancing inside knowing that, aren’t you?”

I sighed. Well, he’s back.

He chuckled at my sigh and went to change into his night clothes. I looked around and smiled at myself at our little moment. It was so much less than what we did that day, but still, it was so much more than that.

The next day came earlier than expected. As it was morning, I looked over at Damien, who was still sleeping on another bed.

I yawned and got up. It was such a big day today!

I tiptoed towards his bed and almost shrieked when he changed his side. I giggled to myself as I ran my hand through his silky hair.

I was about to kiss him — which was weird in itself — when his eyes shot open and he caught me in the act.

My eyes widened while he smirked. He pulled me by my hand and I fell on him. He kissed me wildly and a satisfied smile appeared on his lips.

“I guess you needed that,” he whispered.

My face turned red and I got up, embarrassed.

“Are you blushing, Evie?” His voice was deep, filled with some happiness. I hid my face with both of my hands and then he laughed. “Woah, you look so much more beautiful when you blush.”

I blushed, even more, when he said that. He stood up and pulled me on his lap, sitting back on the bed. My breath hitched up at his sweet act.

He hugged me from behind and kept his face on my shoulder.

“Evie. How are you doing this to me?”

The smile didn’t disappear from my lips, even though his question was serious. It was like I wasn’t able to contain my happiness.

“I… don’t know. I really want to know, though.”

He exhaled.

“Do you believe in soul mates?”

His question caught me off guard. I hesitated, “I-I guess. I mean, I don’t know.”

“I didn’t,” his voice sounded like he was reminiscing about his past and comparing it to his present. “But I can’t… I can’t deny it anymore.”

I held my breath and tried to captivate the moment inside my heart. This was all so overwhelmingly good.

“Damien…” I whispered. “What do you mean?”

He turned me around and wrapped my legs around his waist. I stared into his eyes and he stared back.

“I…”

He stopped midway and I raised my eyebrows. He smiled to himself.

“Are you having a stroke?” I asked and he laughed.

“I wish.”

“Oh, really?”

He looked at me and smiled. “Well, let’s get ready for the wedding.”

“But you were saying something!” I interrupted.

He smirked, “’Were’ being the prominent word. Now, if you’ll get up.”

I sighed and got up. He smiled and went to get fresh.

I stared at his retreating figure. He was going to say something but stopped. I don’t know why but I swear I thought he was going to say something very important…

“Oh, by the way, your dress is in the wardrobe!” He shouted from inside the bathroom. “So choose it.”

“Got it!” I yelled back and went around the big room. I finally spotted the walk-in wardrobe and my eyes widened as I saw a lot of dresses hung up.

They ranged from casual to fancy, from mildly expensive to insanely expensive.

After a lot of searching, I chose one for the wedding. It was a long, white gown. The design and engraving on the off-shoulder dress were very beautiful. What made it special was the letter D engraved in the middle with an E to the side, contained in a heart shape.

It was so thoughtful.

“Hey, you done choosing?” I heard Damien as he walked in, shirtless.

I bit my lip and looked at him. He smirked.

“What?” he asked.

“Are you flirting?”

“Do I need to?”

I sighed and laughed to myself.

“But suppose I am. Are you flirt-ed yet?”

I looked at him and raised my eyebrows. “Am I—what?”

He chuckled. “I love that dress. More so because it pairs with mine.”

“It does?”

He smiled and walked out. I followed him and saw his tux. It had a similar design on it, just near the left side of where the chest would come.

A smile appeared on my lips.

“That’s sweet.”

“So you are indeed flirt-ed?”

I laughed. “Is that even a word?”

“It is, now.” He walked over to me and took my hand. “We’ll make it as one, as we’ll make a lot of other things. Memories, dreams and…” He touched my lips with his thumb and rubbed it. “Love.”
