Chapter 15: Then Love It Is.

Evie

I was taken aback by his sweet gesture. We had been close for a while but things were getting better day by day, and my hopes were starting to touch the sky.

Maybe he could actually be my soulmate. The one who’ll love me as much as I would love him. Maybe it didn’t have to be just a business marriage.

He smiled. “Now, you should take a shower. I mean unless you want to stare at me for the rest of the time.”

I blushed and sneaked a glance at his bare chest, blushing even more. He was so sexy, and he was actually… good. He made me feel safe and secure. Even after what happened with Lucifer and almost the betrayal, he thought he had, he trusted me again and I knew in my heart that I wouldn’t ever betray him.

“No, I-I will shower.” I stepped back and with a smile, took my dress and went into the bathroom. I could feel his gaze on me all the while until I locked the door.

Damien

My fingers went through the pile of congratulatory cards in my hand. The wedding hadn’t occurred yet, but citizens of this country — Vietnam — had sent so many priceless wishes in the mail.

My men delivered them to me and I couldn’t help but smile. I was unaware that the world could actually give a shit about someone. I mean, why else would they write such heartfelt messages? It is not like I would be distributing them money in return.

I heard footsteps and my excited gaze shifted to Evie, who stepped down the white stairs in her long white gown. A smile formed on my lips and I stood up.

When she looked at me, she became self-conscious and blushed. I went towards the end of the stairs and took her hand into mine.

“Hey, we’re still in our house and not the church.” She said, shyly.

I was mesmerized by her beauty.

“I am not here to treat you good only when we’re in the church. It is not my style.”

She looked at me and a captivating smile made its way to her lips. “We’re… uh, I have a weird question.”

“Yeah?” I asked as we moved to the couch and she sat down beside me.

“Okay, um… Is this a love marriage?”

I looked at her and somehow, I didn’t know the answer. It was as if she was asking me if I loved her.

How could I be sure when I didn’t know what love is?

“I don’t know. You tell me.”

She smiled and looked down. “To be honest, I had no such plan when we first met. I mean… even after I agreed to marry you, it was—”

“Kidnapping with permission?”

She laughed. “Yeah. But it is… it has changed so much till then.”

“What has changed?”

“My feelings.” She looked into my eyes. “You’re beautiful in so many ways, Damien. You’re not the man I thought I knew.”

I looked down and smiled. “Is that so?”

“Yes. And you’re not the man you show. You have gotten so engrossed in putting up the mask that you mix it all up. You don’t even realize that while pretending to be cold and ignorant, you almost lost what you really are.”

It was hard to open up. It was scary to think she knew me that well. It was scarier to think that she held the power to destroy me. It was scariest to believe she could love me.

“And you bring out the best in me.” I looked at her. “I am happy that we’re getting married. And I mean it. I mean that I think this is a love marriage.”

Her cheeks turned red as she kept her head on my shoulder. “I can’t fight you there.”

Trevor

“A-And?” I asked with a stutter and cursed under my breath for feeling nervous.

Lucifer turned toward me with a dangerous expression. I tried to keep my cool as a small smirk appeared on his face.

“I know you still care about your best friend. Well, the thing is… Amelia loved you. She really did. But now she’s dead. Do you really want to betray her and forgive Damien? You know how toxic and manipulative he is. When he saw that you became happy and he didn’t, what do you think was the first thought that crossed his mind?”

His words made more sense to me than life. It was true that Damien wasn’t happy. It was also true that I was finally happy with Amelia and was going to get married to her soon. So, why was it impossible for him to be jealous? And if he was jealous, it wasn’t impossible for him to just shoot her to end it all.

“And he is a cold-hearted monster. Killing Amelia was as easy for him as breathing. I even think he enjoyed it.”

I looked at him with determination.

“So, what’s the plan?”

Lucifer seemed satisfied with my reply. He played with the ring on his finger. “Do you know where they are?”

“I will do anything to find out. But I know Damien is doing everything to save himself and Evie from me. I just want… I want to snatch what he snatched from me. I just want him to lose Evie!”

After a moment of silence, I was welcomed with the best reply I thought I could get at the moment.

“That’s exactly what I want.” He came to me. “Find them. I will do the rest.”

I nodded slowly as he left the place. It was pretty sure that because Marcus was dead, I was the only connection between him and Damien. I was still unaware of why he killed Marcus, but I knew it had something to do with the plan I knitted. Maybe he didn’t want Evie to die. Well, then she doesn’t need to.

I ordered all of my men to vigorously search for Damien and Evie. They left the country, so they could be anywhere. Good thing that I had connections in most countries.
