CHAPTER FOUR

Devon's POV

I sat in my brother's pub for hours, thinking and relocating my plan, replaying it over and over my head.

I took a sip from my drink, and watched the group of guys that sat in the right corner of the bar. My fists clenched, but I knew I had to wait. The right time had not yet come. I had to wait. Taking a deep breath, I unclenched them.

I downed my drink in one gulp, grabbed a hundred dollar bill from my wallet, left it on the table and then left the pub.

Outside, my brother Harry was playing pool with a couple of his friends. For a minute, I considered joining them, but then changed my mind. I need to tour this place, get used to this town, before actually starting school. I only had two days to do that.

Without any need to waste any more time, I walked to the pub's packing lot where my bike was parked. Only to be greeted by a very horrifying sight.

There, in broad daylight, sat my bike, in a bright pink color, and besides it, two girls were laughing their faces over, one of them hunched over, I'm guessing she could hardly breathe.

Both girls were blonde, but one of the girls was bustier than the other, and her hair had pink strips through it. They were fairly or almost the same height and apart from the blonde hair, that's all they shared. At least from what was visible. I couldn't clearly see their faces because of the masks they wore.

I looked over back to my bike, cringing when I witnessed the large "Hello Kitty" painting that was on my bike seat. A wave of anger and frustration filled me. Not waiting anylonger, I took action.

"Hey." I shouted, startling both girls. They froze for a moment, before both of them sprang into a run. They had a major head start, but I was a good runner too.

My feet covered the distance between their car and I but I was too late, for thy had already got in. I didn't give them a chance though. I jumped onto the hood, making eye contact with the driver.

Her big brown doe eyes were wide open, and for a moment, we stared at each other. Even in my anger, I was mesmerized by her eyes. The moment was broken as she started her engine, driving the car at a super fast speed.

She pressed the brakes so suddenly, something I wasn't ready for, and in the next moment, she had sent me flying into the air, causng me land on the ground. With the last shared look, she sped off.

I stumbled back to the parking lot, only to find and his friends having a laugh over my bike, snapping pictures that they were surely going to use to embarrass me some time later.

"How much does a paint job cost?" I asked Harry when I reached him. He eyed my bike, before he answered.

"Probably 150 dollars." He replied, taking a swing of his beer.

"I need a new paint job. Over night." I told him.

"Well, that's probably going to cost you more than 250 dollars." He replied. I cursed, and he chuckled in amusement. "Well, you can take my car, and I'll get your bike fixed. The boys and I are staying the night."

"Thanks, bro." I said my goodbyes, then drove off. These girls, whoever they were, were gonna pay.

✴✴✴✴

I sat in the principal's office, Mrs. Sheffield, or was it Sharon, Jefferson? Her name didn't matter, but her school did. The woman in question had left to find me a guide to show me round the school, but sure was going to ditch whoever he or she was.

From what I had seen, it was pretty fancy, and I think it was because of the neighborhood. I held a copy of the school's rules that I hadn't read, and wasn't going to anytime soon, looking around the Principal's office.

It was kinda cozy, giving off a comfortable feeling. Her books were neatly laid in shelves, arranged in order by the author's last name, sorted out by genre. Behind her desk, the view was pretty, the city visible from a far. I doubt it looked much better in the night.

Before I could look around some more, the door opened, and the principal came in.

"Come on, dear. I got the perfect person to show you around." She smiled, showing me through the door. "Go on. Right outside, and you'll find her."

Perfect. A girl. I had been actually hoping for a guy. I walked through the door, and there in the hall., I found a girl.

Her gaze traveled all the way from my boots, to my jeans, and up to my shirt and jacket. When her eyes reached my face, they widened and just like that, I recognized.

As if she realized what was going through my mind, and she went pale.

I took in her face, her big brown doe eyes, her pert nose and soft lips that looked sensual. As if on remote control, I whispered the one word I had on mind. "You."

We stood there staring at each other for what seemed like forever. I was glaring at her, but she didn't seem fazed, her expression dazed as her eyes travelled around my face.

I did the same, though more secretly. She was beautiful, and her hair framed her face perfectly, the pink strips in her hair making her eyes stand out.

The silence stretched between us, and I couldn't take it anymore, so I spoke. "You spray painted my bike. In pink."

"Yes, I did. What are you gonna do about it?" She asked, and I was a bit taken back by her bravado. Color had returned to her face, and she held her head high, staring right into the face. Like a fool, I repeated her question.

"What am I going to do about it?"

"Duh. Are you dumb?" I could tell she was taunting me with that little spark in her eyes that hinted at mischief. "There's no need to repeat my question, afterall, I'm the one who asked it in the first place."

More silence stretched between us. I kept my face neutral, watching her. I tried to use the silence to intimidate her, but she wasn't backing down. I admired her courage.

"Don't give me a reason to turn your words against you, princess." I spoke, again.

"I'm not afraid of you." She shot back almost immediately.

"You should be." With those as my parting words, I walked away.

"Hey. I didn't get to show you to your first class." She said to my back.

"You don't need to."

✴✴✴✴

Over the week, I bid my time, watching her and getting to know what her world looked like. She seemed to be among the popular cliche, considering the respect she was shown.

I came to know that her name was Alexa, and Nick was her boyfriend, also the school's football star. Typical. Her best friends were Stacey and Devina aka Devi, and by the looks of it, she was closer to Stacey.

Both her friends were blonde, and I wasn't sure which one she had been with the time they decided to give my bike a 'makeover'.

The attention that I was receiving was kinda overrated, but I didn't mind. Such things didn't make sense to me, and I didn't care for them.

Finally, when the week was over, I paid my brother a visit. With a few words, and couple of hours of persuasion later, he let me into the security operations room of his pub.

I looked up the day, then pulled up all the footages that had been recorded that day. Finding the one I needed, I transferred it to my phone.

It didn't take me long to hack into the school's system, and from there, I pulled her file, then copied down her personal number.

This sure was going to be an interesting new week.

Monday morning, I was in a pretty good mood. I flashed some girls a smile, paid the others my full attention it had them basking and whispering among themselves.

At lunch break, I decided to put my plan into action. I spotted Alexa by the popular's table, her bottom on her boyfriend's lap. I didn't know what to feel about that, so I ignored it. She was chatting among her friends, glowing from her happiness.

Well, it was time to have a little fun with her.

I sent her the video, and I could tell the moment her phone dinged with a message. I sat back in my chair, crossing my legs at the top of the table.

She looked confused at first, but then her eyes widened, and she went pale, watching the video on her phone. When it was complete, she turned and glared at me, and in return, I smirked. She glared harder, and just to piss her off, I winked at her.

She turned back to her crew, but I knew, even then, she was putting on a facade for them.

After school, I strolled through the halls, heading for the parking lot. Before I could make it out, I was grabbed, and then pulled into an empty classroom.

I didn't have the time to protest because a glowing screen was shoved into my face.

"What the hell is this?"
