Violet I don’t remember walking through the rest of the garden or searching the parking lot for Olive’s Porsche. I couldn’t recall the faces I’d passed or the harsh things they whispered. VioletAfter dinner I had a short conversation with Elijah and Sylvia over beignets. Of course, Sylvia didn’t dare touch the powdered sugar covered dessert. If only I had the same restraint. Apparently, Sylvia was confident the doctors were ready to begin testing pack members for the rogue gene, and she wanted to know if I’d be interested in participating. Only a select few clinics would begin testing, but she thought it might ease my mind to know for sure if I had the rogue gene or not. Elijah had reassured her how confident he was that I didn’t have the gene, but I accepted, nonetheless. VioletI didn’t have to worry about sneaking downstairs to toy with the locks that night, because by the time Olive dropped me off, everyone in the house had gone to sleep. Violet Halfway through lunch, I caught a glimpse of golden hair and baby blue eyes and felt my heart jump in my chest.
